Photoshop CS3 for Photographers.......2007-09-29
This book is very big in size and has ample amount of information for the user. We are using it in our Photography class for Photoshop training but there is a CD that anyone could use without a class.
Comprehesive and Informative.......2007-09-26
This is not for beginner. Mainly it aims at the seasoned PS users. I have owned Mr. Evening book since CS2 and found it very useful as a reference materials. The shortcuts and tricks are embedded in the text; as a result, you have to really read the book to garner the info. There are other books which give you tips & tricks. Just consider this book is a reference material.
Outstanding Photoshop book,.......2007-09-22
Finally found an outstanding PS book, well written, illustrated and easy to understand. Highly recommend!

Better than an owners manual.......2007-08-13
This book is better than an owners manual for cs2, taking you through step by step instructions, if you already know something just skip that section, if you don't then it works, and it's easy to understand. The pages are color coded, great index and it has lots of picture examples.
must-have for photographers.......2007-05-30
i would recommend this book to anyone who is a photographer or thinking about taking up photography as a hobby. it's an amazing book and has very nice tutorials. i've been using it for about a year now. the price is very nice too.
Lots Of "Eureka" Moments Here.......2007-05-29
I've taken an abbreviated Photoshop class only to leave with more questions than answers. Fortunately, our teacher appreciated this fact and recommended this book to all the photographers in her class. I have not been disappointed except for lacking the time to work my way through this massive tome. Every time I open this book I discover another wonderful timesaver or neat trick to improve my photographs.
As good as it gets.......2007-05-14
Even more than I could expect! This book is intended to teach digital photography with Photoshop to make your photos get a new level that you could never imagine before. But if you want to learn the camera or tips to make your photos better without using your computer this is not what your need. One plus is file format explanations. And if you want to get muscle, this book is perfect for you too; because it's made with the best paper I saw in a book with photo quality in all pages the weight is a ton.
Good formatting.......2007-04-10
Besides being a good book about CS2 I really like the color coded chapter edge tabs. Frequently, it is the little things that make a difference.
Book Description
It happens all too often: The vague images of a poor quality video from a surveillance camera splash across the screen in a darkened courtroom and the guilt or innocence of the defendant hinges on whether or not the jury can determine if he or she is really the person in those images. Interpretation and misinterpretation of information about imaging in general, and digital image manipulation in computers in particular, by expert witnesses on both sides, and by counsel who ask questions that are both confused and confusing, may or may not help the jury in reaching a decision. Clearly there is a need for a simple guide to digital imaging for law and forensic professionals. Forensic Uses of Digital Imaging addresses that need. Written by the author of the best selling Image Processing Handbook, it shows you step-by-step how to use digital imaging to its best advantage. It explains by example when and why some procedures are appropriate and what they can be expected to reveal. While other books discuss computer programming to implement algorithms, this book shows in more simple terms just what the advantages and shortcomings of digital imaging are, and how computer image processing can be used to enhance the ability to access detail without compromising the truth of images. Practitioners will learn how to testify about their procedures and results in simple, precise language. Counsel will discover appropriate avenues for questioning to bring forth such explanations, and how to challenge witnesses who may confuse or mislead juries with wrong information or opinions.
Customer Reviews:
Good Book for Forensic students and experts.......2007-04-07
This book uses scientific knowledge and a bit of mathematics to explain how digital imaging works. It explains how digital filters work, (ie median filter, noise filtering etc). The book also has a unique way of looking at digital imaging through the eye's of Mr John C. Russ the author. The author is very competent in his field of Forensics and how the court system works in determining what type of digital enhancements are acceptable in our court systems.
It's not a beginner's book in this area, I would say about Intermediate level. This book is used for a college course in digital forensics. If the instuctor can help explain some of the material in the book, that would be helpful as well. I would recommend this book to any forensic expert's or individuals who are interested in the field of digital forensics.
"The Truth About Pixels According to Dr. Russ".......2006-04-01
"Forensic Uses of Digital Imaging," John C. Russ, NY, CRC Press 2001, ISBN: 0-8493-0903-4, HC 200/183 pgs. text, plus 8 pg. Index, 16 pg. color photos & ample B&W text images.
Author of 12 books & Prof. of Sci. & Engineering at NCSU, Russ is distinguished consultant, writer & teacher of image analyses, etc., "Forensic Uses of Digital Imaging" (FUDI) is a scholarly A to Z valuation of digital imaging (DI) helplful for those in & outside forensic dominions. He provides 5 chapters covering the DI camera, DI Processing, DI Enhancement, DI Identification & DI Expert Witness. Herein, he covers truly relevant elements of how DI & SBI differ, how images are stored, analyzed, compressed, altered, enhanced & used for identification.
The only comparable book I've read is W. J. Mitchell's (1992) "The Reconfigured Eye." Much of the material in FUDI is new, perhaps novel in explanation & is what may be termed an authoritative source book on DI. FUDI is not a book on how to take digital photos but rather an elucidation of how DI cameras capture, store & process images - pitfalls of JPEG compression, extending capabilities of DI imaging & how DI may be used in forensic legal work, & he discusses the Frye rules & the Daubert test.
Written in a easy-to-read form.......2001-07-20
This book gives a good overview of forensic image processing, and the challenges that are involved with using this in court. It has many image examples that clarify the text in the book, and was easy to read. The only thing that I did not like was that there are no references to literature sources given in this book.

Excellant Book.......2006-11-05
This is one of the best books I have read dealing with Photoshop. It is written for the Photographer. The instructions are very clear. I would suggest that every profession photographer and serious amateur have a copy of this book.

A MUST HAVE!.......2005-10-07
If you into photography, you must use Photoshop CS and consequently, you must have this book. No more, that's it.... just buy it!!!
Incredibly Helpful.......2005-07-15
Just to start this, I'm one of the "near-expert" users that uses Photoshop all the time, and has been doing so for years, and no, it's not at all geared for beginners, but you should of figured that out by the part where it says "Professional Image Editor's Guide". That said, this book is incredible, there are many very interesting and solid techniques that you will have a hard time finding in any other source. Aside from that, not much more is to be said, but as the owner of at least 6 or 7 photoshop books, I would have to say this is by far the best! Highly recommended, as long as your not a beginner.
Needs better editing.......2005-03-22
This is a wonderful book for the photographer who is delving into Photoshop CS for the first time. However, there are many editing errors. Some of the places where Mr. Evening refers to other sections in the book obviously refer to previous editions rather than to the current edition. There are quite a few typos which were not picked up by the editing process as well. The indexing is not up to par either. For instance when you search for "montage" in the index it doesn't exist, yet there is an entire chapter on the topic. Overall, I am very glad that I bought the book and find it extremely useful in getting up to speed in my digital darkroom use of PS CS.
Comprehensive book, but step-by-step instructions would help.......2005-02-01
This is a very comprehensive book. It demonstrates sophisticated Photoshop CS
techniques. I would call myself an advanced beginner in Photoshop PC. While I was able to implement the various techniques described in this book, I would have preferred clearer step by step instructions.
The author buries instructions within the text. Step by step instructions would make the book more user friendly and probably appeal to a broader audience. The contents of the CD which comes with the book was helpful. Some of the "before" and "after" photos used to illustrate the techniques in the book looked pretty similar to me, but they are more distinct looking on the CD. I found installing the CD on my PC a bit glitchy, but that was sorted out after a few tries.
In my opinion, the perfect hybrid CS Photoshop book would cross the sophistication of Martin Evening with the step-by-step instructional style of Scott Kelby.

Customer Reviews:
great animation book.......2004-11-07
The book has all the things i need to know for a beginner.I find this book easy to read, very helpful with lot's of illustrations/examples and the computer models are useful to practice the animation after reading it.
One of the best books on animation I've ever read!.......2004-11-06
I've bought a lot of books on 3D animation over the years and most of them are either full of information that I don't need (how to build sky scrapers or how to spin my name in letters) or don't have anywhere near enough information on how to animate (usually only one chapter).
This book has everything I need to learn how to animate!
It starts by showing how to do an exercise using 2D traditional skills and then goes on to do the same exercise in 3D (if you want to skip the 2D bit and just do the 3D, that seems to work fine). Most employers today want to see evidence of traditional animation training and this book gives you all that!
It covers everything; weight and balance, timing, walks, birds, fish, snakes, four legged animals, acting and lip-synch.
I'd rate this book with Richard Williams' The Animator's Survival kit. In other words one of those books that every animator should have.
So if you want to learn how to animate or if you want to improve your 3D skills, buy this book!

Incredible book.......2007-06-15
This book is an intressant and beautiful book of an Anusara teacher.
Accepting your True Self.......2007-05-28
An interesting, easy to read book about yoga and accepting your true inner self. This by means of doing yoga and accepting your body as it is and not what it should be according to the outside world, where women have to look perfect, being muscular, slim and beautiful. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 as the "theme" repeats itself throughout the book which get a little bit too much in the end. Nevertheless a very inspiring book, a must to have when you have body image problems.
Beautiful Book for Almost All Women.......2007-05-16
*****
This book really spoke to me about weight issues, body acceptance, self-image, and how yoga can be used to deal with all of these. The subtitle of the book is "Making Peace with Your Body Through Yoga", and every time I read it (I've read it three times so far) this book helps me to accomplish this. I have the parts I like best highlighted and often reread them for inspiration; it is a beautifully written book.
The book focuses on a type of yoga called Anusara Yoga, but as other reviewers have said, you don't really have to be interested in yoga to benefit from the book. It's more about mindfulness, philosophy, attitude, being with feelings, and acceptance than it is yoga and yoga positions. The women modeling the poses are women of all shapes and sizes, all obviously content with their bodies and enjoying their practice.
The only part of the book I did not relate to was about having a guru, which is part of the philosophy of the author, and I just skip over those parts when I reread it. That part is peripheral, and the book is more than worth it for the rest.
Highest recommendation.
*****
Not about Anusara.......2006-08-09
Although this book is touted on several Anusara web sites as a book about Anusara, I found it to be more about self-loathing and a poor body image. From cover to cover, the author rehashed her, and other's, disfunctions and poor self-esteem related to a poor body image and eating disorders.
Now, if you fall into any of the afore mentioned catagories, you may find this book for you. If not, it's a waste of time. (I too have looked in the mirror during a yoga session and thought, jeez, I'm going to have to not eat for the next month...., but I didn't dwell on it. And I don't consider a new pedicure when gazing at my feet in down dog.)
My truly, heart felt advice to those of you whom this book will speak to is, spend less time on the mat and more in meditation, until you get your mind under control. I am saddened for anyone who is their own worst enemy. Life is too short.
Yoga, and all it's attendant traditions, are so much more. Let it be so for you.
yoga making peace with your body.......2005-10-14
A very good book, it brings out some vital and interesting reasons why one would wish to practice yoga and puts those reasons in context of modern day living, this book was definitely written from a woman's point of view but without any basis
Book Description
Out of print for nearly 20 years, Images of the Self has remained a foundational text on Jungian personality theory in sandplay therapy. In this classic work, Weinrib shares her understanding of how sandplay works to heal and transform the psyche.
This updated edition features a new introduction by Dr. Katherine Bradway, colleague and friend of Weinrib, two new chapters from Weinrib's published papers, and a wealth of clearly accessible reference material for study and research.
Customer Reviews:
Outsdanding!.......1999-09-19
Within the context of the study of sandplay therapy IMAGES OF THE SELF is a classic and in my opinion a must for any psychotherapist who owns a sand tray. It is a text that will interest and inform both the beginner and the experienced psychotherapist. Weinrib is masterful in describing this non-verbal modality. Her skill along with lots of photos of patients' sandplays afford the reader an in-depth understanding of sandplay therapy. In Part One of the book the author describes sandplay and its analytic underpinnings. Some chapter titles included are: A Free and Protected Space, A Comparison of Verbal Analysis and Sandplay, Resistance and A Safe Outlet for Aggression. Part Two consists of a riveting case presentation of a man in his twenties. Sandplay photos found on nearly every other page make the case presentation flow smoothly. IMAGES OF THE SELF is excellent!

Book Description
Using and combining colors is now easy with the revolutionary new Color Image Scale developed by Japan's leading color psychologist, Shigenobu Kobayashi, the author of the best-selling A Book of Colors.
After three years of intensive research, Kobayashi and his team at the Nippon Color & Design Research Institute have matched 130 basic colors and over 1,000 color combinations to 180 key image words, allowing you the expression of any mood, lifestyle, or taste through the creative use of color
combinations.
If you want to make an interior or an outfit "elegant", "romantic", or even "provocative", just look up -the word in the key image word index, and choose any one of the dozens of color combinations listed under the entry. Conversely, if you would like to know what mood certain colors or color
combinations suggest, refer to the color index.
Used by thousands of major designers and manufacturers in Japan, the Color Image Scale is a unique color resource for both professionals and amateurs alike.
Customer Reviews:
Great Book, Who stole my Blue?.......2001-10-27
I really like this book. The author created a standard color grid, red on the right, blue on the left, all the others in between, dark on the bottom, light on the top, except he used 3 color "patterns" rather than a single color in each box. Then he "inputted into our computer 180 image words that relate to the ways in which people percieve color, and also data on which words were associated with which colors." What his method is isn't expounded on
They linked the images to the words, and voila, you get sort of bubbly outline areas on the grid - these color combinations are elegant, these colors are fun, these colors are feminine or masculine, etc.
Since this book was first published in Japan in 1990, there are bound to be cultural discrepancies, and since this book is about the psychology of color, the 'conclusions' can be contested, though on the whole i think they're accurate.
My criticism stems from the fact that Blue in my book is missing. There's a page for "Red" and a page for "Yellow" and on, but no page for "Blue." There's a "Cerulean Blue" which is sort of turqoisy, and a "Light Blue" which looks like a darker Cerulean blue, and an "Ultramarine" which is closer to blue, but with a bit of violet in it. Who stole my blue?
A lot of the colors seem to have gone through a bad printing process as well, making me question whether or not I'm seeing the actual values. Ultramarine, for example, if you look closely (not that close, it's fairly obvious) is made up of lots of other colors. Am I supposed to hold it at arm's length to get an idea of what the color is?
Perhaps it was a bad printing.
Psychology of Color Preferences.......2001-10-12
This book allows the designer/artist to personalize color choices for each client in a nontraditional way. By choosing "favorite words" a quick sketch of someone's preferences can easily be obtained. The book is simple to use, and allows clients to easily visualize what type of colors they prefer. I have used it in a multitude of design situations: painting and interior design, clothing design and sewing, and quilting. I have never been a fan of the conventional "color wheel," and I use this book as a reference and illustrative source when working with clients -- almost all of whom are amazed at the effect different color combinations can have on their everyday lives.
Fantastic for web design.......2000-10-05
This book provides an elaborate color theory that makes the color wheel look like stupid hippy frisbee. Colors are arranged in groups of three, and then grouped based on their overall feeling- it sounds preposterous, but you really will be attracted to certain regions more than others, and so will everyone else you show the book to.
The three color arrangements are particularly nice for Web page design, even though the CMYK nor RGB values are given. But this is forgivable, since this book was not intended for that purpose.
An excellent resource for anyone working with color, and a great tool for any web designer.
best guide to color in universe.......2000-08-10
Have you ever wondered what color to use with another? This guide book shows - in very easy terms - a range of possible combinations using one particular color and shade as a starting point. For anyone who cares about color, this book is a MUST! I wish the author would publish a more extensive guide. No other book matches this wonderful little guidebook.
excellent book for understanding the psychology of colour.......1999-01-25
As a graphic designer it is important to establish colour boundaries objectively. This book adds to the process significantly. Over time it adds a dimension to the consultative process of design giving weight to yourself as a professional who can find unique solutions to the business environment.

Its simplistic but worth the cash........2002-12-03
Sure its simple, but if you need something that's
not then you could probably figure out Adobe Premiere 6
without a book. I'm a 17 yr. old amature movie
maker and was somewhat stumped by Adobe Premiere. I
skipped about the first five chapters and went to the stuff
I couldn't figure out on my own. It's step by step process took out the guess work.
Great for newbies only.......2002-11-28
This book is clearly for beginners, who are willing to sit down and spend the time going through the steps of the many tasks that make up the book.
The book is organised such that you basically have to follow through all the tasks in order not to get lost.
The tasks are bite-sized, occupying 2 pages and made up of about 6 steps, each step illustrated in color. If you do follow the steps, it's hard to get lost, since every step is well-illustrated, and they even point to you exactly where to click (which borders on being insulting).
It is important to bear in mind the fact that this book is not meant to be a reference book, where you flip to a particular section to find out how to do stuff. You'd probably be disappointed.
Also, since this book as task-oriented, it does not really show you the steps involved in a real project. In other words, going through this book may not properly equip you do successfully complete a large scale project. More experience would be needed. Otherwise, get another book.
All in all, this is great for true beginners, but if you want to go further in Premiere, be prepared to buy another book.
Don't Bother.......2002-05-02
I found the picture by picture style of this book not only anoying, but void of in-depth information. Premiere is phenomenally complicated. This book's "Simple Simon" approach shows how to do the basics step by step without explaining the fundamentals and technical information necessary to master video editing basics. My advice to someone who actually wants to LEARN Premiere? Don't try to take a short cut. If you need a picture book with step by step instructions to work through a software program, Adobe Priemiere is probably not the best video editing tool for you to learn. This book fails to explain the importance of the "Render" command thus confusing the begginer who can't understand why none of the technical tricks of the book are not working. In a nutshell, buy another book.
How to Use Adobe Premiere 6.......2002-03-28
This is a very good starter instruction for Premiere. It will get you to the point where you can use all the major features of the program and produce a nice video. Not recommended for those already familiar with Premiere. It is written with complete instructions, including where to click and which menu to select and what keyboard function key to select. I found it very useful for the first few weeks, but then you'll outgrow it. I would have given it 5 stars had there been a "Part 2" for more advanced topics. If Mr. Dixon DOES put out a Part 2, I'll buy that one also.
Getting started with Digitial Video and Premier 6.0.......2002-03-22
I am new to the world of videography and have purchased the hardware and software to begin producing my own digital video. I consulted with several knowledgeable people and selected Adobe Premier as my video editing suite. One of my friends suggested that "How to Use Adobe Premier" by Douglas Dixon would help me get started and be a good reference for the more advanced capabilities of this software. This book has saved me a huge amount of time and frustration by starting at a very low level on how to use the software. This gives you confidence to tackle more complex tasks. The book then can be used as a reference to show you how to accomplish those tasks. I appreciated the consistent style, good illustrations, and especially the hints. It is a well written guide and reference for beginning and intermediate digital videographers.
