Way Cool! Proud to boast about this great project! Kendall Buster and Paula Crawford have tackled a very difficult and taboo subject with wit and wisdon, keen insight and thoughtfulness that transforms the culture of studio art education into a clear discussion of the artistry of creative presentation and all of the thinking, doing, and planning that support it. The authors unravel a mystery for art students to ingest that can only have positive impact on their the work. Artists who are eager for depth, breadth, and better ability to plan and present their ideas to others - this is a must read! The content is completely applicable to all art discipline areas. From painting to sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, design, photography - it cuts across all areas of the visual arts and binds the conceptual with the end product in an engaging discussion of the ways and means of creative evidence, philosophy, and discussion. An excellent required and affordable text for studio classes across the board! Harold Linton, Chair Art & Visual Technology, George Mason University.

4 out of 5 stars Critique of The Critique Handbook.......2006-11-04

I am an adjunct photography professor at a private college. This book was used as a text for a joint workshop on The Critique for the art department of our school and another local college. Given the complexity of the subject matter, this book does a good job of covering the basics of an art school critique. I particularly appreciated the discussion regarding the role of faculty and the personal baggage we sometimes forget we can bring to the party. It's impossible to cover all the possible permutations of The Critique, but this book does a fine job of highlighting the peculiarities of several art disciplines and the details that should be addressed. It gives you a springboard to make the conversion even if your discipline isn't specifically covered.

If you teach art or hold critiques in your class, I believe you will find this book very helpful.

My only quibble is the type size for my aging eyes. Don't be fooled by the physical size of this book. It may be compact but it makes up for it with density.

5 out of 5 stars The Critique Handbook.......2006-09-17

This is a well-written, insightful and important manual that every professor, teacher, curator, gallery owner, student and professional artist should have on their bookshelf. It IS extremely expensive, but worth every single dime. There is a million bucks worth of info between its covers! Run and place your order...I'm glad I did!

4 out of 5 stars The Critique Handbook.......2006-06-30

This book is very specific about how to conduct a critique and how to survive one without becoming emotionally involved. Although it only discusses the traditional fine arts,i.e. painting and sculpture, the techniques involved can be easily adapted to othere less trasditional forms of art, i.e. fiber art or photography. A very good book.

5 out of 5 stars A terrific book!.......2006-03-26

What a fantastic idea! How is it that something as essential and ubiquitous as the studio critique had not been examined in this way before? This book takes on the task brilliantly. "The Critique Handbook" is a wonderful mixture of how-to manual, theoretical analysis, irreverent debunker and basic gameplan. The authors' analysis of how to make the best use of the critique applies both to those giving the critique as well as to those receiving them. While students will find the book quite useful in learning how to negotiate the critique and find the best uses for the information presented to them there, professors and other professionals will also find much to think about in the authors' analysis of what makes a critique helpful and harmful. And, delightfully, the authors are not afraid to take on the sacred cows of the profession. Any art professor will appreciate the witty and deadly portraits of their colleagues sketched by Buster and Crawford in their analysis of the types that can be found in the artist's studio.

5 out of 5 stars What a BOMBSHELL!!.......2007-05-09

This book is so well written, albeit on the technical side, that you will see why the powers that be in Europe are jailing anyone who believes the big "H" is greatly overblown, if not an outright lie. Just think about it, people are actually sent to prison for not accepting the stories that are being forced on all of us.

1 out of 5 stars Preposterous unscientific propaganda.......2007-04-15

Having heard so much about this revisionist school, I was propelled to read this book.

Such unscientific biased absurdity certainly has some motive behind it. Interestingly enough, many of the details within could be used as a treatise behind Herman Goering's testimony at Nuremburg that the extermination of Jews, gypsies and countless others never happened. They merely died of starvation in war-like conditions.

This book ignores detailed existing records that document orders and transport of Zyklon B for the vast death camp complexes.

How can one even concoct theories like those within when there are still numerous witnesses alive who watched Jews enter the gas chambers and then retrieved the bodies? (Sonder Kommandoes). Perhaps the eyewitness accounts of Jews are not admissible evidence to these "scholars"?

With regard to the author being persecuted and driven from his country, I have no compassion since he and his family, unlike millions, were spared their lives.

My immediate family includes survivors who witnessed the Holocaust with their own two eyes. Isn't is a great coincidence that their stories all coincide with hundreds of thousands of other victims? Were they all given a Holocaust Mainfesto after the war's conlusion?

5 out of 5 stars Scientific revisionism.......2007-03-03

Arthur Butz completely deconstructed the holohoax in his book "Hoax of the Twentieth Century". In his words, the holohoax is a 'conucopia of absurdities', and Butz did not need to rely on forensic investigations of the physical evidence at the various camps. And, in any case, his book predated these investigations.

Scientific revisionism got its start after the publication of Butz's book, when Fred Leuchter took samples from the walls of the hoax gas chambers at Auschwitz and other camps and compared them to samples from known delousing rooms where Zyklon, a commercial insectide, was used to kill lice in clothes to prevent the spread of typhus. He proved that the hoax gas chambers could not have been used to gas persons.

As a result of his findings, Leuchter was hounded out of his profession, arrested in Germany, deported from England, and has endured various other hardships and indignities. For an example, see the writeup on Leuchter on Wikipedia, a character assasination piece from start to finish, that includes such important items as "David Irving has called Leuchter a simpleton". For a more accurate assessment of Leuchter and his work google -Fred Leuchter Defender of Truth- by Mark Weber.

Rudolf took up the scientific study of the holohoax by replicating Leuchter's work, and went on from there. This book contains the results of his research and the results of others doing scientific investigations at the camps.

Note that the Nazis were meticulous record keepers, and the Allies captured many camp records. One of the results is that the holohoax has evaporated in the camps captured by the US, these being the camps in Germany proper. Now there are only six alleged 'extermination camps', all in Poland, and four of these were razed before the end of the war. So the mystery there will not be solved by found records. Also, the Soviets hid the records for the camps it captured, releasing some (all that could be located?) in the 80's, and the holohoax has been able to sustain itself at these camps.

The scientific investigations center on the questions of where are the bodies and/or graves, the mechanics of extermination, statistical analyses, and the like. This book contains much of the work of the best researchers. It is an invaluable resource for understanding the holohoax.

The hoax originated as wartime propaganda about the 'extermination' of the Jews. There was similar propaganda in WW I. It began in earnest with the show trials at Nuremberg, Dachau and Berlin. In Berlin the Soviets tried Commandant Anton Kaindl and fifteen others associated with the camp at Sachsenhausen. Kaindl testified about the construction of gas chambers on his orders, and gassing Jews. There was no shortage of eyewitness testimony. And, there was a video showing one of the gas chambers, cleverly disguised as a shower room, and how it worked.

Google - Trials of Sachsenhausen concentration camp war criminals - to see a report on the trial complete with pictures and excerpts from the testimony.

Now, you can read the current holohoax history of Sachsenhausen at the USHMM web site. No gas chamber. It was all a hoax, as even the holohoax establishment now implicitly admits.

Initiallly the holohoax maintained that Jews were 'exterminated' in gas chambers at Dachau and Sachsenhausen and other camps in Germany proper. It was proved by false eyewitness testimony, forced confessions, bogus direct evidence, and convictions at show trials. All present in the Sachsenhausen hoax. In the 1980's that part of the hoax, for all the campes in Germany, evaporated. Amazingly, the hoax persists at the Polish camps.

5 out of 5 stars Yes Germar Rudolf is in prison........2006-12-28

Read this book. Don't just read about it. The extent and duration of the pervasive insidious mythology with which our culture has become permeated, which passes for history in our school text books, with which we are inculcated daily by CNN, ABC, the History Channel, the NY Times, and Oprah Winfrey, makes it easy to dismiss this book without reading it - particularly because it is so disturbing, and the lies we have come to believe are more comforting than the truth. Yes Germar Rudolf is in jail. One should ask why we find it necessary to jail someone for expressing a viewpoint, and expressing it rationally with an almost delusional hope that by understanding the truth about the past we can live in peace in the future. Read this book.

5 out of 5 stars Dissecting the Holocaust should be mandatory reading for anyone engaged in the study of the Holocaust!.......2006-03-09

Dissecting the Holocaust should be mandatory reading for anyone engaged in the study of the Holocaust!. This book is most thorough and informative of all books on the Holocaust that one can possibly get in a single volume. The information passed to the reader is volumous and undebatable. Holocaust officials refuse to engage in open debate with the authors of these articles because they haven't a leg to stand on. Their solution?-.. Bann the book and persecute and or imprison the authors.
I feel one should always be allowed to instigate all sides of an issue. The investigation of both sides of an issue should even be required in any field of SERIOUS scholarly study. Hence my recommendation it be mandatory reading for anyone studying the holocaust. Unfortunately many do not feel this way. For many it is believe the officially sanctioned propaganda or pay the price. This book and many like it are banned in many countries and the authors are under continuous persecution even within the United States. Get your copy now before the masters of thought control manage to suppress yet another scholarly work.

From the late 1960s on, there has been one highly profitable movie genre that has received little or no critical attention or documentation-black action pictures. These are very popular, slam-bang, heavy-duty, ethnic action feature films like Beverly Hills Cop, Blacula, Cleopatra Jones, Foxy Brown, Greased Lightning, Shaft, and Superfly. Here the genre is given its due in this comprehensive compilation of four filmmaking decades. For each of the 235 films, there are detailed filmographic data and full cast and credits listings, plus an essay interweaving a synopsis, contemporary critical quotes, production information, and an analysis of the film and its stars.

3 out of 5 stars Comprehensive but rife with inaccuracies and extraneous entries.......2007-09-13

Black Action Films is a fairly good addition to your library if you're into niche films--it does cover a genre of film that has gotten little serious attention anywhere else. Unfortunately this book suffers from the same two ills that virtually all the McFarland library bound reference books do--it costs way the hell too much and it is very poorly edited. The main thing that irritated me about this one was that the author included entries on films that simply were not black action films. He includes films that are not action films simply because they have a black star or supporting player and also includes action films that feature minor roles by black actors in otherwise white-dominated films. For instance he includes the Dudley Moore comedy "Best Defense" just because Eddie Murphy had a small role in it and 1987's "The Principal" starring James Belushi simply because Louis Gossett Jr has a supporting role. This is just a matter of filling pages to fill pages.
Also, there are some blatant inaccuracies that are just stupid. In his entry on Issac Hayes' "Truck Turner" for instance, the author repeatedly referrs to the character as "Matt" Truck Turner. The characters name was MACK "Truck" Turner. "Mack Truck"--get it? I mean that's a joke in the film, which the book's author obviously never saw and the book's editor obviously never checked.
And for this they want $60 a copy? For $20 it'd be worth it. I'd rate it at 2 1/2 stars if I could.

        Book Description

This Companion provides an authoritative survey of twentieth-century American drama studies. Comprising over 30 original essays written by some of the best scholars and critics in the field, it emphasizes research and in-depth analysis, and is informed by debates drawn from past and present dramaturgical discussions. The volume balances studies of leading dramatists, such as Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Eugene O 'Neill, and Gertrude Stein, with discussion of previously marginalized playwrights. The contributors examine the movements and themes that framed these playwrights ' work, such as the Harlem Renaissance, lesbian and gay drama, and the solo performances of the 1980s and 1990s. They also situate twentieth-century American drama within larger discussions about American ideas and culture, allowing readers both to get an overview and to make new connections between particular plays and playwrights.

The Nazi Holocaust - history or mystery?

        * A prominent architectural engineer in Vienna...
        * A French professor specializing in textual criticism...
        * A chemist from Germany's Max Planck Institute...
        * An American expert on Diesel emissions...
        * A Canadian geologist trained in interpreting aerial photography...
        * A German architect, an Italian engineer and historian poring over thousands of wartime documents...

These men, and the other researchers featured in Dissecting the Holocaust, are applying hands-on, on-site investigative techniques to a key concept of twentieth century history, the belief that Adolf Hitler and his Nazi henchmen exterminated millions of Jews during World War II. These bold pioneers prefer doubt to dogma, and the practical methods of the detective, the archeologist, or the scientist to armchair theories and societal certitudes.

Today, challenging the Holocaust, whether in whole or in part, has been made punishable by law in many Western democracies. Yet a growing body of evidence, accumulated by the investigators featured in this work and by other researchers, raises increasingly troubling questions about the standard version of Hitler's alleged attempt to exterminate the Jews. As the Holocaust becomes an ever bigger taboo, as the questions from earnest dissenters grow more insistent, Western society stands at a crossroads. Does a decent regard for Hitler's Jewish victims, however many they were, justify suppressing open inquiry and stifling free expression?

In Germany, where all copies of the original edition of this book were ordered seized and destroyed, and in the other European nations in which revision of the Holocaust is also a crime, the great Western traditions of intellectual liberty, freedom of research, and civic courage continue to be given lip service. Where is the government minister, or the university chancellor, who would dare to deny that, throughout our history, those lonely few who have risked reputation, freedom, even their lives, not simply to oppose, but to put right the entrenched errors of academy, church, and state, have been the heroes and benefactors of all mankind?

Dissecting the Holocaust, therefore, is more than an adventurous, innovative challenge to our understanding of a vital historical issue. It is a book that exposes and confronts a contemporary malignancy of Western society to ask: What sort of truth is it that crushes the freedom to seek the truth?

Dissecting the Holocaust applies state-of-the-art scientific technique and classic methods of detection to investigate the alleged murder of millions of Jews by Germans during World War II. Among the questions raised and considered by the authors, each a specialist in a historical, scientific, technological, or legal discipline: How reliable are the claims of the eyewitnesses or the confessions of the alleged perpetrators? What do population statistics reveal about the probable number of Jewish casualties under Nazi rule? How strong is the evidence for murder in gas vans? Do photographs that seem to show Nazi crimes actually document them? What do wartime Allied aerial photographs of the camps reveal about the alleged massacres? Why are Bergen-Belsen and Buchenwald no longer classed as extermination camps, even by Holocaust true believers? What do the long-suppressed Auschwitz camp records, recently unearthed in the Moscow state archives, disclose about murder by gas at the most notorious death camp? Did the technology to gas millions, then incinerate their corpses with scarcely a trace, exist during World War II? Did German soldiers shoot hundreds of thousands of innocents behind the Russian front? Most important of all, dare one doubt what society has declared to be self-evident?

I didn't know how to react to this book at first, we have all been told that "DENIAL" is somehow a sickness, that people refuse to accept that the Germans killed millions of jews and thats just wrong. I am not a technical person but this book flowed very well and was fairly easy to understand. So many people that say the holocaust didn't happen are smeared and defamed and dragged into court all the while these historians say the jews won't talk about the questions that they want answered about the holocaust story. Now I see why. These FACTS are indisputable and actually make you wonder how could they get away with these exagerations for so long. Oh I know the answer, just throw the people in jail for "Denying". Doesn't anyone ever learn from history?

5 out of 5 stars Facts and Figures.......2003-12-16

This book, Dissecting the Holocaust, is banned in Germany. The authorities there raided the publisher, the distributors, the sellers and anyone else they could lay their hands on, and literally burned all the copies they found. They tried to arrest the editor, who fled and is now an exile. Put it in your suitcase next time you visit there--discover the way the myth works...

The book is a muliti-author compilation of scholarly articles that discuss some features of the traditional myth of the holocaust, and compare it in various ways with what is known to be plausible, logical, true, scientific, and sometimes, even, common sensical.

Many of the chapters are not easy to read. They contain tables of death, graphs of HCN release rates, coke delivery schedules, and calculations of muffle capacities. If your taste runs to Wilkomirskian fantasies rather than engineering perspectives, don't bother with this book--you'll just wind up confused. If your inclination is toward the metaphysical, emotional and literary version of what happened, rather than the scientific, historical, verifiable, and objective, then just skip this book. You won't like it.

Personally, I have a rather distinct prejudice in favor of graphs, tables, equations and common sense. I can even read and understand statistical arguments about census data before and after the war. I understand that eyewitness accounts are generally less reliable sources of information than contemporary documents and forensic evidence. I believe that testimony obtained by torture for show trials shortly after a major war is generally unreliable. Therefore, this book speaks to me.

It tells me that for over 40 years, the plaque at Auschwitz claimed that four million died there, has been replaced with one that claims 1.5 million. It shows pictures of the supposed gas chambers that are entirely devoid of the stains of prussian blue that are hallmarks of cyanide gas. The book proves to me that the diesel engine exhaust, claimed by "eyewitnesses" to have been used in the majority of gassings, cannot kill. The book tells me about the laws used in Europe to punish those who question the reliability of propaganda, rumor and religious beliefs as a basis for historical truth.

This book is more powerful than a thousand novels like Wiesel's Night, Wilkomirski's Fragments, and Nyiszli's Auschwitz. It will be suppressed, censored and ignored for decades to come.

5 out of 5 stars an intellectual adventure ahead: chills guaranted.......2003-10-03

This is not really a review (thought the book is excellent and very well researched). This is an invitation, a call to the curious reader who still believe in free speach and in the birth right to question cultural diktats.
Everybody has the legitimate right to forge an opinion on his own. For this, you need to access all available info, not only to hear one side of the story. This is what this book is all about. The contributors are specialists, scholars, intellectuals who had life and carreer before they dare to reveal their findings. Most of them have lost a lot in a battle the general public is unaware: whatever the Holocaust was or not, it has been elevated to a religion which cant be contested without paying a high price. Most of us have accepted official versions. Who read Mein Kampf, who cross-examined the witnesses? To verify some of their claims, I have read about chemistry of pesticides, cremation, disposal of carcasses during foot and mouth diseases in England, reactions of iron oxide and cyanide compounds...It is a fantastic intellectual journey this book will embark you upon. And for most of the specialists who contributed to this book, this is how it must have started as well: a nagging question in the back of their minds, what are the proofs the Holocaust did happen? Arent you curious to investigate for yourself? But a fair warning: everybody who dare question what happened during the second world war in Germany is automatically labelled as neo-nazi, anti-semit and persecuted. It is much easier to look the other side. Forget about the labels some post on those courageous investigators, read for yourself what they have to say. This is what I am asking you, not to believe them, to read them. And then try to prove them wrong. Does it matter what Newtown religious beliefs were? He still described the law of gravity accuratly. Was it fair to deny Galileo the right to discuss his research? If only for that, I guarantee you the reading of this book will leave you with an healty doubt.

1 out of 5 stars don't be duped by this pack of sinister lies.......2003-08-27

Buyer Beware! To give this book one star is a travesty at best. There should be an opportunity to give none or even better, a minus. Read on. Ernst Gauss is a pseudonym for Germar Rudolph, who is wanted in Germany for Holocaust denial and has fled to the USA. Under the name of Rudolph, you will find a '2d edition' just published. in 2003 The publisher goes by the name of Theses and Dissertations Press. It is in fact another name for Castle Hill Publishers (out of Chicago, IL), owned by -- guess who? Germar Rudolph, alias Ernst Gauss. This extensive edited volume collects essays by some of the most notorious of the falsifiers of evidence pertaining to the Holocaust.. There's another series, Holocaust Handbooks (one on Majdanek; another on Stuffhof) masquerading under a seemingly innocent (and respectable) name. Just go to the website of the publisher and see what else they sell, to say nothing of the noxious links to other appalling websites. Rudolph himself also operates under VHO, a Flemish denial site, which is even more elaborate.

1 out of 5 stars Like gargling pigswill in an abattoir.......2003-08-11

Although I have not had the dubious pleasure of reading this particular tome, judging by the mendacious nonsense Faurisson usually writes I would expect it to be the usual tissue of unfounded assertion, manipulation of evidence, lies and clinging onto tiny facts in the face in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

That so many readers have chosen to award it high praise in their reviews should come as no surprise, residing as they do in a nation where 30% of people believe Elvis is alive and well, 20% of them believe in alien abduction and just as many believe in angels. I suspect most of the remaining 30% are equally credulous morons. Hey, you voted Bush in after all!

How sad to see that one of my compatriots has written in praise, though as a denizen of the benighted Brum there may be an explanation there.

By the way, I gave it 1 star because I was not given the opportunity to award it 0.

          Book Description

As a notion, the theory of evolution permeates society. But like earlier unproven notions, has it run out of time? The Handbook for Creation, the Flood and Historical Dating utilizes established expertise combined with factual analyses and technical knowledge to expose insurmountable roadblocks confronting evolutionary arguments. The subjects include: DNA code, geological thrusts and overthrusts, fossil evidence, radioactive dating methods, lunar findings, astronomy, Egyptian chronology, Hebrew and Judian chronology, Assyrian chronology, precise dating of Christ's birth and death, earth's parameters before and after the flood, defines the canopy and the fountains of the deep, discusses the decrease in earth's rotational rate, discusses life spans before and after the flood, continental drift, radiocarbon calibration, and many more creation subjects.

5 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and intelligent critique of religion........1997-10-29

Lucifer's handbook starts with the thirteen basic arguments for religion. The remainder of the book is then concerned with debunking those arguments in a very intelligent and thoughtful way. The text is well organized, comprehensive, and extremely well thought out. I found the examination of the Christian Bible's contradictions with commenly accepted scientific findings as well as with the bible itself particularly enjoyable and illuminating.
