Good coverage of 3rd party stuff for the Palm.......2001-08-01
It isn't condesending or authoratarian, rather it comes across as a set of balanced well thought out independent reviews. Not all of the reviewed s/w is on the CD - and the CD front end is slow and clumsy.
The reviews of applications give the impression the author has actually used them and isn't regurgitating the applications marketing. He describes what each program does and, in may cases, what it doesn't. For most apps he gives the cost, memory requrement and developer, plus lists developers web sites. There is a good list of contacts in the back. Hardware section is good with pictures of most of the stuff. A good section on batteries but nothing on the serial connector. Not all available hardware is covered, though of course thats asking a bit much. One thing missing is a consise list/table/index of all the apps covered. I'm looking forward to an update of the book and definately recommend it to anyone wanting to expand thier palm functionality.

Parkett No. 75: Kai Althoff, Glenn Brown, Dana Schutz (Parkett)
Kai Althoff , Glenn Brown , and Dana Schutz Manufacturer: Parkett ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 3907582357 Release Date: 2006-02-01 |
Book Description
For over two decades Parkett has presented unparalleled collaborations with key international contemporary artists, and paired their work with discussions by esteemed writers and critics. Issue No. 75 spotlights Kai Althoff, Glenn Brown, and Dana Schutz. Althoff's portfolio includes both erotically charged paintings of men in uniform and innocent "coming-of-age" colored pencil illustrations, sensuous work--at once homoerotic, punk, and devotional--that radiates a somber luminosity. Then there are his awkward, life-size installations, which appear to be made by some sort of drunken puppeteer. The "master" Glenn Brown employs a sorcerer's bag of techniques to produce retro-Rococo paintings and sculptures, maximally intricate, hyper-composed, and rendered with the intense detail of a tripped-out sci-fi animator. His fully-realized, uninhabitable dreamscapes reflect on the bizarre world in which we all live. Dana Schutz's painterly virtuosity and devotion to the medium also look back in time, but her brilliant, confessional exposition is very much of the now. Be the subject a dissected corpse, a dazed hippie chick, or her own boyfriend on the beach, Schutz's painted world, her "monster mash," is decadently radiant and ecstatic, and also frighteningly ghoulish. Text contributors include Jordan Kantor, Viet Loers, Oliver Koerner von Gustorf, Jennifer Higgie, Trevor Smith, Jarg Heiser, Michael Lobel, Daniel Baumann, Rachel Kent, Duncan Fallowell, Angelika Affentranger-Kichrath, Gian Maraniello and Rudolf Schmitz. Plus a photographic insert by Balthasar Burkhard, and spine by Carsten Nicolai.

It is a terrific source for writing school reports, a great companion for family vacations, and an inspiration for young readers who might want to grow up to be architects one day.

Glenn Brown
Tom Morton , and Glenn Brown Manufacturer: Holzwarth Publications ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 3935567359 Release Date: 2007-03-01 |
Book Description
"I am a little bit like Doctor Frankenstein because I create my pictures with the remains and dead parts of other artists' works." So says the rising London painter, Glenn Brown, while essayist Tom Morton likens Brown's canvases to a zombie comedy. Thus, "Theater" is a half-length portrait of a skeleton whose bones resemble a slimy organic mass of meat, paste and raspberry ice cream, while the sad mutant heads in "Asylums of Mars" and "The Hinterland" look as if they were bred in a mad geneticist's laboratory. In this monograph, six recent works are presented on deluxe tipped-in color plates, each accompanied by a detail that reveals Brown's technique: the artist fills his grounds with flowing whirlpools of shifting colors--but what initially look like thick brushstrokes are revealed upon closer examination to be very thin layers of paint that could almost be mistaken for photographs or digitally manipulated prints.Books:
