Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Customer Reviews:
Knitting Never Felt Better.......2007-08-23
Great book, so many variations of things to make, I recommend to anyone who likes to felt.
Not so fabulous..........2007-08-17
I've loved Nicky's previous books, both for their ideas and production value. This book is also beautiful to look at--I bought it just for the scarf on the cover. But then I was very disappointed to see that there really isn't that much inside this book. The idea of dimensional felting is interesting, but just how many pages of scarves with nuts and marbles wrapped inside them prior to felting does one need for inspiration? There are some beautiful stitch patterns shown here, that are then ruined by felting. If you are a dedicated felter in need of something a bit different and lack confidence in creating your own designs, this book is for you.
Why????.......2007-08-14
Maybe there is something I just ain't getting. Why would anybody spend the time knitting a complex color/stitch pattern and then felt it? Why would you want to destroy a piece of work that has beautiful progressions of stitches into a piece of felt with funky-looking holes???? I can see if one has made a mistake, or received such a piece of knitting in a God-awful color, etc. etc. Perhaps, it would be better to felt than to toss.
There are some good ideas in here on different ways to manipulate the knitted fabric to make forms and some color patterns that would look pretty cool felted.
I just think some things are better left unfelted.
Pictures???!!!.......2007-07-05
CAN ANYBODY POST SOME PICS??!!
It's a pity we can "look inside" this book.
I personally don't like buying books by their cover.... I was very disapointed when I got "Vogue On The Go: Crocheted Scarves", the scarves are horrible, except for just one (I might be making some day)!
For serious felters.......2007-06-14
Here's the dish about the book.
1. There are great before and after felting photos in many different stich patterns including lace. Even if you do not want to felt the pattern you can see what it looks like without felting.
2. There are before and after pictures of simple stockinette stiches in a variety of yarn
3. You are told how many time to wash the wool to get to the felted look you want.
4. Demension felting is one of the major sections of this book and the author suggest several options for tool to use for deminsional felting. To me this was the most inovative and inspiration portion of the book.
5. The book is beautiful just to look at over and over again.
Caution-
If you are beginer many of the patterns will require the guidence of a more experienced knitter.
Like her previous books, it is an inspirational book to help you design; not a pattern book. Another reason it may not be for the beginer knitter.

In this classic, a yoga master describes the techniques of breathing together with a comprehensive background of yoga philosophy in this authoritative, practical and indispensable guide.
Customer Reviews:
Highly detailed classic for serious practioners.......2006-12-17
I teach meditation and I am educated in biology, biochemistry and psychology. I am also a student of world religions and a yoga practioner. During my graduate school years, I was also a Teaching Fellow in Physiology and I teach workshops on pranayama and biofeedback. Therefore, I think my opinion has some weight in this arena although I realize there are more serious yoga practioners who have more in-depth knowledge than me. My purpose in sharing this information is to provide context from my review. I hope this is useful.
This book is incredibly detailed and goes deeply into respiratory physiology, muscles, practices and the details of pranayama practice. There are clear explanations, however, many people may find them to technical without a biology background or the desire to take this information in slowly.
There are many good diagrams and photos in the book that any practitioner will find helpful. In some cases, they are unique in the yoga literature in some way and I can't imagine not having this book on your shelf if you are serious about the practice of pranayama.
While this is not the most colorful or modern looking text, it certainly packs a lot of information into a small space. It is also written by someone who has travelled this road and understands it both technically and from the inside. In short, it is an authoratative text on this subject.
A lighter book along the same lines which I have also read is the Science of Breath. For beginners, this title might be more appropriate. However, any practioner at any level will eventually want to own this book.
Perfect!.......2006-10-23
This book is a treasure to me. It teaches a safe means of progressing through all of the variations of pranayamas. If all of the advice is taken, there will be no problems in this area of your personal practice.
This is only one part of the yogic path, though. The rest needs to be in place for this to be effective. For that I rely on Yogani's Advanced Yoga Practices book. It gives step by step, safe instructions utilizing the techniques of the Gheranda Samhita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, as well as other great works. I highly recommend it to any serious yoga student.
I am so glad to have found "Light on Pranayama". I am somewhat of a beginner to the serious practice I've undertaken, but with this book I feel confident that I will succeed. Thank you BKS Iyengar.
An excellent work! .......2006-03-19
As far as I know, it is the only work that gives such complete instructions for this very important aspect of yoga. It deserves more attention.
Too much unnecessary in depth, not simple.......2006-02-24
Mr Iyengar says you need teacher to practice Pranayama, on the other side he makes thick book which he himself thinks can not be used without a teacher. After reading many books, I have concluded following:
Try The Little Book of Yoga Breathing: Pranayama Made Easy instead of B.K.S. Iyengar's book and see for yourself.
Scott Shaw's book is an answer to any introductory pranayama and worths it's weight in gold.
Following are two techniques:
Alternate Nostril Breathing
(Anulom Vilom Pranayama with no breath retention) This pranayama (control breathing) is done with alternate breathing from the left and right nostrils for cleansing of Nadis. (energy meridians). Seated in a convenient posture, start off with slow inhalation from the left nostril first by closing the right nostril with the middle of right hand thumb ,and after fully filling the lungs, (not the belly breathing) breathe out slowly from the right nostril by closing the left nostril with the two ( left hand middle and ring) fingers. Now breathe in from the right nostril by closing the left nostril in the above manner and exhale from the left nostril by closing the right nostril with the right thumb. It completes one cycle. Do this for three minutes for two months then gradually increase to 5 minutes.
Do it two hour after eating or drinking. (Do it on empty-stomach) Do not eat for 15 minute after you are done. Better to lie down for five minutes after you are done. If you limit practice to maximum of five minutes, it will be the best.
The very first sign you will experience is lightness in the body and clearer thinking.
The practice of this breathing for a period of three to four months can open up thirty to forty percent of the heart arteries' blockages. This pranayama alleviates all the diseases of the body, leads to the state of joy, enthusiasm for living , fearlessness, peace of mind and deep meditation.
Benefits:
-Hair will regrow within two months of practice.
-Body will go to it's ideal weight by itself.
-Face becomes bright and luminous.
-Lost vision will return.
-Removes fear/anxiety of any kind.
- Aligns both hemisphere of the brain for full brain functionality
- Creates a deeper sense of well-being and harmony
- Helps alleviate migraines and headaches and frazzled states of being
- Works great in situations where you find yourself anxious, board and need grounding
-Blockages in the arteries of the heart are removed and the arteries become clean, making circulation unimpeded.
Ujjayi Pranayama
1. You can do this sitting, standing or walking anywhere anytime.
2. Inhale slowly through both nostrils, keeping the throat slightly constricted so as to make a gentle sound that will help you to feel the breath in the throat. The sound will remind you of ocean waves washing up the beach. Concentrate on the feeling of the breath moving in and out through the throat.
3. During inhalation do not allow abdomen to bulge out, let the chest expand.
4. After completing inhalation slowly exhale. (Either by both nostrils or by left nostril) During exhalation chest should go inside and abdomen should remain steady.
Remember :-
1. While doing Ujjiayi air should touch the throat.
2. Breath must be mentally locked in chest area. (Do not do belly breathing)
3. After practicing it for few days, knowing your limitations, keep the ratio between inhalation and exhalation 1 : 2.
4. In easy Ujjiayi Pranayama, inhalation and exhalation can be practiced by both the nostrils.
Benefits:
This simple practice has a subtle influence on the whole body. It calms the mind and has a soothing effect on the nervous system. Ujjayi is very useful for people with high blood pressure as it slows down the heartbeat. It has subtle effects on the flow of life force in the astral (energy) body and helps you to be aware of its movement within the sushumna (astral spine).
Fabulous book.......2005-12-09
What an excellent book on the art of pranayama, a skill which requires respect and conscienciousness. I have read the "Light on Yoga," another book yogis should not be without. Both books offer an avenue into the vast Hindu pantheon. To the reviewer who thinks Hinduism is gibberish, you are truly missing the point of yoga. Yoga and Hinduism cannot be separated. If you want a practice devoid of sprituality do pilates or aerobics. Yoga is designed to prepare the body for a spiritual practice, whether you want it or not.

Book Description
From the author of The Secret Art of Seamm Jasani comes the definitive guide to the ancient defense-meditation art of Boabom.
The success of The Secret Art of Seamm Jasani by Asanaro surprised many who wondered whether a little-known Tibetan movement system would be able to compete with yoga, Spinning classes, and tai chi. After several printings and thousands of Seamm Jasani converts, the secret is out. Seamm Jasani schools have cropped up across the country, thanks to the popularity of Asanaro's book, and more people than ever are discovering Seamm Jasani. For students eager to continue learning about ancient Tibetan body movement arts, or for anyone curious about cutting-edge strength and spiritual training, The Secret Art of Boabom is a must read.
A cross between martial arts and yoga, Boabom is an ancient system of relaxation, meditation, breathing, and defense originating in pre-Buddhist Tibet. The movements contained within the collective "Arts" of Boabom are designed to develop vitality and internal energy, as well as mind and body balance, which are achieved through movements of defense, self-healing, relaxation, and meditation. Boabom provides quick relief from stress, and improves focus and confidence, as well as physical condition and mental well-being.
The Secret Art of Boabom includes detailed descriptions and more than three hundred instructional drawings of Boabom movements, as well as information about its positive effects. But The Secret Art of Boabom is more than just a how-to book. Combining the thrill of adventure nonfiction, the depth of history, and the profundity of philosophy along with the practicality of a guidebook, Asanaro offers this companion to those eager to explore the secrets of ancient Tibet in order to improve their health and well-being.
Customer Reviews:
Thoroughly engaging book... a great read and a helpful study tool.......2007-09-13
As a person studying Boabom and Seamm-Jasani (or Gentle Boabom) at the Boston School of Boabom, I have found this book to be one that I return to often for many reasons.
The book is engaging, entertaining and helpful. The story that the reader follows is filled with interesting and thought-provoking ideas to ponder. The story, which took hold of my imagination with it's very first sentence (try the Search Inside feature to get a taste of this), is both easy to follow, while at the same time somewhat mysterious. I feel compelled to re-read parts or all of it often.
As one begins to delve into the part of the book covering the physical movements of the art, there are many helpful tips to aid the reader in learning the movements. These movements are the tip of the iceberg, really, but are covered in great detail, allowing for a very good foundation with the Art. As the student advances through the movements, once again, it's always helpful to re-read and study the finer details.
After studying Boabom for a number of years now, I still find myself going to this book, along with Asanaro's other book, to polish and study the details and finer aspects of this Art.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to try a system of movement that is unique, always interesting and thoroughly invigorating. There is not enough space in this review for me to get into the health benefits I have experienced from studying the Arts. As well, it would be hard to describe in so few words the general overall positive shift in attitude that has come along with this. I am grateful for the discovery of these Arts, and am very happy that these books are available so that others far and wide may benefit from studying the Art as well.
Really good book-highly recommended........2007-01-19
Picked this book after a friend of mine kept on incessantly talking about it. A few pages on it and I realized why he liked it so much: the book starts with a nice story that introduces one in the 'lost teachings of this Art' in a simple yet very straight-forward way.
I kept on reading. I started liking it more and more.
Then you have the second section, which explains and clears how to work with this book, how to follow the chart in time (a very useful chart, I must add!!!). A very concise section, that explained all I would have asked a teacher.
I continued reading, and started doing the exercises.
The exercises themselves are simple and easy to follow. Nothing I couldn't follow (I have to say that my friend didn't have any problems himself following them either). The drawings are very good, and even though the author says he drew all of them himself, they have that 'je ne sais quoi'... they go with the book!
The book finishes explaining how the Boabom Schools work and with a scientific study. Also, and I think the author did the same in his previous book, there are comments from real students, people like me and my friend that take the classes or read the book and continue doing the exercises. Real people.
I will not debate on whether these teachings are ten billion years old or a modern creation: they work, and that is what matters. They make me feel great, renewed and refreshed, and they clear my mind of the habitual problems I worry about: work, money, daily stress, bills, being a 'professional procrastinator' and... well... my daily life.
Very good book. Especially considering that it is a book that tries to teach exercises, breathing techniques and coordinations, which is already hard with a teacher in front of you. I have to add that the author managed to do it flawlessly!
Everyone should read it.
a student's perspective.......2006-12-06
I am a student at the Boston School of Boabom, and have been studying the Boabom arts for a good while now under many teachers, including Asanaro himself. It's particularly interesting to me to look at this book as another method of expression for these teachings.
Perhaps most intriguing for me, as a student, is the "story" portion of the book, wherein a theoretical and philosophical underpinning for these arts is laid out in monologue and metaphor. Assertive and instructive without being preachy, this section is rich in meaning and provides much food for thought--for current students and newcomers alike.
The "technical" portion of the book lays out a sequence of basic movements from the beginnings of the art. Transmitting an art based on movement through the media of text and images is no mean feat; there's no substitute for teaching in the flesh. That said, I believe that Asanaro succeeds in conveying the essential elements of the movements with his thorough descriptions and detailed illustrations, expressing clearly the many details involved in each. The attention paid to common mistakes (and how to correct them) should be particularly useful for beginning students.
Boabom is an art that develops only over time, and is not for everyone. This book provides the newcomer with a glimpse of all the art has to offer. Some may find a resonance, and see here a hint of something both familiar and strange; others may find a curiosity, an old way carried carefully through the ages to the modern world. All will find something new, unique, and rewarding in equal measure to the energy invested in it.
The Secret Art of Boabom's impact upon my life........2006-12-05
I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. I am constantly re-reading sections to better understand the Art and its meaning.
I am particularly impressed by the book's structure using a story to capture the reader's interest before delving into the technical aspects of the ART.
This book and the Art have had a profound impact upon me. I was in near constant pain when I started studying Boabom over 5 years ago. I am now able to participate in sports without pain. My outlook on life has changed I now look at the glass as half full rather than half empty.
Excellent book - motivating, exciting & full of energy!!!!.......2006-11-18
This book is a wonderful continuation of Asanaro's previous book called "The Secret Art of Seamm-Jasani". The story line continues from his first book. The author uses a number of beautiful poems and the plot of the story is breathtaking. The Art described here (Boabom or Osseous Boabom) is quite different from Seamm-Jasani (Gentle Boabom). The second part of the book is completely devoted to thorough explanations of this Art (including incredible drawings!) on how to begin practice of Boabom on your own. It is very straightforward and easy to follow. At the end of the book, a scientific study is presented along with comments from real students.
I highly recommend this book to everyone, and especially to those who are looking to tone their body, have better balance, learn how to defend themselves, and also to those who are on the lookout for great new literature.

Fly Like a Butterflly.......2007-08-23
Brilliantly photographed. The sheer joy of yoga shows on all of the little faces. I plan to use it as a teaching tool and hope my little yogis find joy in my classes.

My 3 year old LOVES this.......2006-05-24
This book is great! I like to do a lot of fun things with my kids and this book helps me to "instruct" the under 3 crowd in my house. The kids love it and everyone laughs when we do it! A definite must buy!
Easy Breezy Fun Yoga Book.......2004-11-18
Out of three Children Yoga books I bought off of Amazon, this was far the best! it gave me a lot of ideas to work with and was able to build up a lot of lessons to teach the children. Children love the chanting meditaions and acting like the animals in the jungle story.
Great ideas to incorporate into children's yoga practice.......2003-05-08
This was my first children's yoga purchase which I still use today when teaching young ones. This book gives many different stories to tell as you are teaching children to move their bodies and breath within the poses. A great tool for educators and parents of children preschool through elementary age.
Captivating and Exhilarating.......2002-05-04
"Fly Like a Butterfly" is truely exhilarating and simply FUN! The photos are absolutely beautiful.
I have nine nieces and nephews and practice yoga with them weekly. They LOVE the "Frog". Because of your book we have a new found love.... YOGA!
Thank you Shakta for bringing "Children and Yoga" into my life.

Book Description
A fundamental Taoist practice for enhancing and utilizing chi
• Includes breathing and movement exercises to promote vitality and healing through the cultivation of chi in the tan tien and perineum areas
• Presents the foundational exercises that are essential for more advanced practices such as Iron Shirt Chi Kung and Cosmic Healing
Tan Tien Chi Kung is the art of cultivating and condensing chi in the lower abdomen--the tan tien--the fundamental power storehouse of the body. Known as the Ocean of Chi to the ancient Taoists, this lower abdominal area holds the key to opening the body and the mind for the free and continuous movement of chi. Tan Tien Chi Kung contains specific breathing and movement exercises that develop the power of the chi stored in the body to increase vitality, strengthen organs, and promote self-healing. Mantak Chia explains how these exercises also provide a safe and effective method for receiving earth energy, which allows the practitioner to achieve balance physically, mentally, and spiritually--all of which are essential for the more advanced practices of Iron Shirt Chi Kung and Cosmic Healing.
It is our mind that directs and guides our chi, but if the mind and body are out of balance or under stress, the mind cannot perform this function. The tan tien actually contains a large quantity of neurotransmitters, making it a key source of body intelligence. It is for this reason the Taoists also referred to Tan Tien Chi Kung as Second Brain Chi Kung and created exercises that would allow practitioners to gain awareness of the tan tien’s function to restore the mind-body balance that is essential for spiritual growth and optimal well-being.

It's about selling more books, not passing on knowledge!.......2007-08-17
As a 35-yr. Tai-Chi pratitioner/instructor (alumni of Robert W. Smith and Sifu Willy Lin's schools) and martial artist competitor/instructor (Jiu-Jitsu & Krav-Maga), I found Mr. Chia's, "The Inner Structure of Tai Chi: Mastering the Classic Forms of Tai Chi Chi Kung", very detailed and profound. However, since acquiring fame and fortune from his Iron Shirt Chi Kung book and tapes, Mr. Chia seems to crank out one or two books a year, which only scratch on the surface of what could be valuable knowledge. His now ever-present disclaimer that, "in order to benefit from the teaching in his publications, one should be training with a Mantak Chia certified instructor and/or buy more of his books" should raise a cautionary flag to the serious inner essential energy seeker. Having attended one of his weekend workshops last year in Teresopolis, Brazil, I can attest to the fact that, while his multi-media slide show presentation was interesting (albeit, a bit long and winded!), the Tai-Chi portion of his clinic was so sad, it was laughable... to put it mildly! This book is a re-hash of familiar concepts packaged within a new cover and not worth the money. If the reader would like to get more technical about the nurturing and expansion of his chi force, I would recomend checking out "The Healing Promise of Qi: Creating Extraordinary Wellness Through Qigong and Tai Chi" by Roger Jahnke!
Misleading.......2007-02-07
I bought this book and one other by the same author expecting to get some useful information. Both books however begin with an introduction that none of the material in the books should be used unless you are already being trained by a qualified Tan Tien Chi Kung teacher. If I was already under instruction, I wouldn't need the books, yes? The introduction further states you must buy more of the books as these two books build on exercises in these other books. None of this was mentioned in the book reviews on Amazon.

Book Description
The Art of Yoga presents stunning images that capture more than 100 asanas, the physical postures in yoga practice, as exhibited by two of the world's best-known and most-respected teachers of the discipline. The culmination of a ten-year collaboration by Sharon Gannon and David Life with noted British-born photographer Martin Brading, each of the magnificent black-and-white images captures the physical intricacy of a position. Brief excerpts from ancient Sanskrit texts, together with the authors' commentary, crystallize each posture's spiritual essence. This lavish volume, which presents 150 duotone photographs printed on museum-quality art stock, will hold pride of place in the collection of any yoga practitioner or lover of fine photography.

Body = Art.......2006-03-05
While some people may argue that this is just a 'vanity' book, the pictures within will convince all that the body is an amazing piece of art. David Life and Sharon Gannon, owners of the immensely popular Jivamukti Studio (http://www.jivamuktiyoga.com/) in New York, contort their bodies in ways that are truly mind-boggling. The photos are shot in black and white - alternating between playful and intense moods. If you are a fan of Life or Gannon, this book is a tribute to their mastery of yoga.
For those of us who just enjoy yoga, this is art - pure and simple. For those who are not familiar, the pictures may be intimdidating or a curiosity.
Tribute/Art -Must have for yogi's.......2005-08-10
This is a wonderful book of inspiration, fantastic photography & art. But mainly is a tribute to David & Sharon Gannon's life's work. What a beautiful & original way to document a life dedicated to yoga! Any yogi would miss out by not having this fabulous book in their library. Truly a work of art.
Beautiful Book ..........2005-07-20
Very nice and well done photos of Sharon and David. Motivating. A great piece of art. R.
Art of Yoga? Should be The Art of Vanity.......2003-04-28
The photos are indeed beautiful,(kudos to Martin Brading) but overall the book left a bad taste in my mouth upon realizing that this book is more a testament to the authors than to the testament of the art of yoga. The beauty that comes from the art of yoga is its transformative magic - not just physical transformation, but spiritual transformation. It's difficult to see that when the pictures are pretty much just glamor shots.
Yoga Is Art, and this shows The Art of Yoga.......2003-03-26This book is awesome! They are two of the most wonderful and influential yoga teachers in the West, and they're showing that yoga can be fun. The text is so touching and I use it for a "quote guide", pulling some of the beautiful sayings out for everyday notes and letters. I've bought a copy for everyone I know who practices yoga, including myself. It's a refreshing change from the many textbooks available. I recommend it to anyone wishing to perk up their coffee table.

Book Description
Stardom, thanks to Woody Allen and his film Manhattan, came at an early age...but so did the problems of a broken and dysfunctional family. Yet in a life so out of kilter, Mariel Hemingway summoned the strength and inner resolve that enabled her to find -- and to keep -- her balance.
In Finding My Balance, actress Mariel Hemingway uses the lessons and practices of yoga as a starting point for her own personal reflections and larger-than-life family story. The result is a searingly honest memoir that is as deeply moving as it is helpfully prescriptive.
Mariel turned to yoga and its meditative practice in an effort to maintain her center when her life threatened to spin out of control. Having experienced family tragedy, sudden stardom, and the continuing challenges of a full and demanding life, Mariel learned through practice how to find her balance in emotionally disorienting situations. Throughout the book, Mariel uses her yoga training as a starting point for each chapter, carefully describing a particular position, then letting her mind wander into thoughts of the past and of her tumultuous life.
As each chapter begins with instruction, so does the book end with exercises organized in a sequence that can be followed by anyone who wants to practice them. As a special bonus for this edition, Mariel has added a section that describes the basics of her own "In Balance Philosophy," calming words of advice for people in search of their own emotional center.
Download Description
"Actress Mariel Hemingway uses the lessons and practices of yoga as a starting point for her own personal reflections and a larger-than-life family story. The result is a searingly honest memoir that is firmly practical, as well as a moving narrative of the author's struggle to deal with a complex and often stressful life. Mariel was the third daughter born to Jack Hemingway, Ernest Hemingway's son, and Byra Whittlesey. Her older sister, Muffet, suffered for years from instability, while middle sister Margaux, a celebrated actress and model who was caught up in the fast lane, eventually died of the effects of her driven lifestyle. Their mother, Byra, was darkly moody and emotionally quixotic, and made no secret of her disdain for her husband, while Jack, himself insecure in no small part because of his celebrated father, a man he never really felt he knew, was an indifferent parent at best. Even before she was a teenager, Mariel was forced to assume the role of stable center of her family. In just about every way, she never really had a childhood of her own, a situation that was exacerbated by her sudden thrust into celebrity when she was first cast in sister Margaux's film Lipstick, then in Woody Allen's Manhattan. Suddenly, Mariel was a movie star.

Yoga in real life.......2007-05-12
I am not sure what I expected, but I was pleasantly pleased by A Memoir with Yoga. It was interesting to read about her life - but even more interesting was how well she described the asanas. I have a new approach to some of them (remembering her giggles at the cat and dog poses - and that some yoga is FUN), and will concentrate on moving into a pose with her words in my mind. I learned more about yoga from the book than expected, and it was a joy to read.
Interesting even if you're not into yoga.......2004-06-25
Like the reader from Raynham, MA, I am not the slightest bit interested in yoga and skipped over those parts. But the other sections were worth reading -- especially the parts about her eating disorder! Before she got the implants, I always admired and envied Mariel's figure, especially the way she looked in Personal Best, and had assumed that she was just naturally athletic. I suppose I shouldn't have been shocked to learn that, like so many celebrities, she had to starve and endanger her health to look like that. And the stuff about her mixed-up family was very interesting, too -- though sad. I also enjoyed the stuff about Woody Allen.
Well worth reading.......2003-03-14
Heartwarming insight into the experiences of one cool lady. I admit to following Mariel's (and Margaux') career since before "Lipstick" and I read the book in one session. Very touching, and Mariel really lays a lot of personal pain and joy bare for us to see. A great book for anyone juggling family problems, a difficult adolescence, food demons, and facing adversity. I sure hope the future is kind to Mariel and her family.
Mariel opens her heart.......2003-02-24
In this touching, informative, truthful story about Mariel's own life is a compelling story I couldn't put down. For any fans of hers, you are going to love this book and won't be ab le to put it down.
Wonderful!.......2003-02-11
I loved this book! Mariel opens her heart to her readers and lays it all on the line. I identified with her and was able to learn some new methods for handling some areas of my life that parallel hers. This is a wonderful and sincere book!
I hope that in the future she writes a book on yoga and that she writes another book where this one left off.

Product Description
Kriya Yoga Its Mystery & Performing Art, written by Swami Sadhanananda Giri is described by many of its readers as the Kriyayoga Samhita or the Holy book of Kriyayoga. The luminous words of this inspiring & empowering title are pregnant with spiritual wisdom, which has changed the lives in hundreds of its readers exposing the proper practice of Kriya as originally taught by Yogiraj Sri Sri Lahiri Mahasaya. It is highly recommended as a follow-up of the classic Autobiobraphy of A Yogi written by Paramahansa Yogananda. Paramahansa Yoganandajis luminous words in Autobiobraphy of a Yogi have inspired millions of people across the world to taste the innermost essence, the nectar of Kriyayoga. But even with such huge number of followers, an ideal & authentic text book of Kriyayoga with both theoretical & practical details is in demand. The secret behind the success of the above title in reorienting its readers outlook & lifestyle in general is nothing but translation of the divine powers of its author into its contents. The present title with its inspiring & empowering words is a gift to the mankind from another Sadguru Swami Sadhanananda Giri from the same lineage. It is a printed shape of his realizations emanating from highest level of spiritual wisdom. Kriyayoga is a novel science comprising of all the best techniques available in different traditional oriental systems of yoga for control of the innate breathing exercise or Pranayama. Yoga in its totality prepares the mind as well as the body for the ultimate goal of life association & assimilation of the individual consciousness with the Supreme Consciousness. The path described for such a marvelous journey is same, simple & secret in every religion control of the senses & concentration of the mental faculty through control over the respiratory process. Kriyayoga is mentioned in the ancient renowned philosophy of the great sage Patanjali, as a mean for communication with the Absolute by way of certain significant practices intensely secret. Our revered Sri Sri Lahiribaba revived that sacred tradition & presented to us as the most advanced, up-to-date way of spiritual practice suitable for both the familymen & renunciants, for any human soul beyond any barrier of religion, caste, age, sex or nationality. As in every art, practice of Kriyayoga too has to be performed under the supervision of an able Master a self-realised Guru in living, who himself has crossed all the stages of yogic sublimity. He is the sole origin & medium of transfer of spiritual energy to an obliged & obeisant disciple. Only He holds the key to self-realisation for the disciple. The insurmountable restlessness of human mind has to be focused in the way taught & tutored by the Guru. Any attempt to sail alone in spiritual practice is totally prohibited. Swami Sadhanananda Giri descends from a sacred Guruparampara, the traditional Indian lineage of Guru. Through this masterpiece he wishes to provide every spiritual practitioner in the path of Kriyayoga a practical guide, to satiate his inquisitiveness, for an insight into the knowledge necessary to allay all misgivings & also to help him appreciate his journey through newer stages of spiritual upliftment during sadhana.
Customer Reviews:
A must buy for all sincere yogis.......2006-11-07
This is a book about the general description of kriya yoga by Swami Sadhanananda, a disciple of Swami Bhabananda Giri. The work is translated by Dr. Kalyan Bhattacharyea.
Firstly, I must warn the potential buyer that the English used in this book contains some grammatical mistakes. However, the translator acknowledges these mistakes with humility at the beginning of the book. If the reader does not mind these minor grammar errors, this book is highly recommended to all sincere seekers of God.
The actual technique of ALL the levels of Kriya yoga is actually revealed to the public. So far, as I am concerned, this is the ONLY book which does this. However, it must be pointed out that the techniques are revealed in a general manner and if one wants to learn these techniques in a detailed manner, they should write to Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF). Followers of other religions (especially Islam) would find that by practicing these techniques, it would actually complement their religious beliefs and lifestyle. For example, towards the end of the book, the author gives the reader a detailed explanation of performing the ZIKAR, which is a method of sadhana. The author states (by giving a detailed explanation) that zikar is type of pranayama which aids the devotee in reaching Allah. Christianity and Buddhism is also given attention here as well.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend this book to all sincere seekers of the spiritual path. Whether one is a Muslim, Hindu, Christian or followers of other faiths, this book presents the reader with an overwhelming feeling of unity between all the different religions of this world, through the practice of kriya yoga.

Pleasure equals happiness?.......2003-12-01
Honestly, has anyone acheived happiness through sensations? Granted, we experience some brief enjoyment, but inevitably, disappointment arrives... Those who seek happiness through sensations are always disappointed: that is why we have the symbol of the Satyr. The Satyr is focused on sensations but he is never content... Be sincere with yourself and realize the truth of this in your life: you can never find happiness through supposed "ecstasy" - you may find a brief moment of escape from the problems, but when it is over you are left with the same problems. This is not Tantra. Real Tantra provides the complete transformation of suffering. One cannot transform suffering so long as one has desire. Desire is the root of all suffering. We suffer because we do not have what we desire. When we get what we desire, we suffer because we are afraid of losing what we desire. There is no contentment. Contentment comes when the desire has been removed; then there is nothing missing, there is peace, joy, the true ecstasy of the Consciousness. This is the freedom of the soul: to be free of all selfish desire. This can be achieved through radical work on oneself. Real happiness comes when there is no anger, no pride, no lust, no fear... This is what real Tantra teaches, and this knowledge cannot be found in this book. This book will teach you to deepen your dependence on sensation, to deepen your lust, to adopt practices whose true purpose you cannot see, and to make you more of a slave of desire... To find the true teaching, read the works of Samael Aun Weor (The Perfect Matrimony, The Mystery of the Golden Blossom), the Tibetan Buddhists, the Buddha, Krishna, Jesus... they all agree: there is no happiness so long as the ego lives in us.

Excellent, helpful, and fascinating.......2000-12-07
I highly reccommend this book. It describes the background and philosophy of Tantra without losing the reader. It also provides a guide to Tantric practices, with pictures and instructions, which are easy to follow and positive. This book will show you how to achieve new heights of happiness and enligtenment with the help of a loving partner or alone, although most of the book is geared towards couples and how to work together. I think any couple that reads this book together will benefit their relationship and their individual psyches.
