Excellent book.......2007-09-13
This book was new and in excellent conditions. I really buy another book from Amazon. Also the shipping was very fast.
Not just fluff.......2007-07-23
Get into the ins and outs of PV installation. This book is actually too complicated for the casual observer since there are a lot of variables to designing a workable cost efficient (well, hopefully not costing more than need be) PV system. For instance, a materials list for a 12 volt DC battery and charge controller system consist of about 80 lines. Each with their own numbers!
Photovoltaics Design and Installation Manual.......2007-07-07
This is a low-cost and easy to read and understand book for designing and installing PV systems. I highly recommend it for interested students, engineers and contractors.
Renuable Energy Education for a Sustainable Future.......2007-05-16
Great book, easy to understand for everyone. We all need to work toward this kind of lifestyle. Including supporting our communities, making them more levable, and buying local.
So So Solar.......2007-05-13
Not a bad book, but it gives itself way too much credit by billing itself as a "Design and Installation Manual". This 315 page book could be condensed into a 50 page useful book entitled "A Basic Introduction to Considerations in Photovoltaic Design and Installation". It's choppy to read, and it has a lot of filler, generalities, and truisms. Expect a lot of this: "The major aspects of installing the photovoltaic array are choosing the most applicable mounting systems and making a proper installation". Some of the electrical theory is questionable. Still, it's the best book I've found, which means there is a great opportunity for a knowledgable PV systems integrator who can write well and put together a comprehensive, well-written text on the subject.

A most.......2007-08-31
I rebuilt my bathroom and completely renovated the shower. This book was my bible. Of course I had other references and ideas to use, but pretty much kept to this book. I had it there by my side while constructing everything from the shower pan, shower walls and tiling it all. Sure I could have done it without this book and my wife would have made me hire a professional to redo my job.
Not to brag, but with the advice from this book people think that a professional DID remodel my bathroom. There is so much satisfaction in doing it yourself and to get a the results as good (and sometimes better) as a pro...
An excellent overview.......2007-06-22
John Bridge has put together an excellent reference for the experienced and novice tile setter alike, and if you're looking to learn the basics to put together a project for the first time, this book is a must read. John's light, conversational style makes the book a quick read, and as mentioned in another review, the online forum on the author's website is also an invaluable reference.
Highly recommended to those who need a to learn the ABCs of tile.
Tile Your World.......2007-05-13
I bought the bookas a gift for a friend who is quite interested in home renovation technique. She was thrilled by it and judging by her reaction, it must be an informative and well written book.
Everything you need to know!.......2007-02-13
This is the ultimate book for tile setters and for those who want to be tile setters. John focuse on all of the little things that the amateurs don't. focus on. The actual tiling itself is the last thing he focuse on. He will teach you the science of laying different types of tiles. You will learn everyting from floor deflection to room layout to determing the square footage and much more. I even learned of a new underlayment product made by Schluter that does not transfer cracks to the tiles due to structural movement and also a waterproofing membrane to use in shower tile installations! I have learned so much Thank you.
Great book for me - Novice/JOAT.......2007-02-06
We recently built our new home & I used this book & Setting Tile (Fine Homebuilding) to do all the tile work. One of our best & proudest features is the masterbath I built with lg garden tub and oversized corner dual head shower with dual niche all tiled together - We love it. I can't believe I was able to do it all with friends & family and alot of sweat/work.
Saved thousands over best few estimates. I see why the labor is so pricy now....
Recommend both books.

I needed this book and I needed it in a hurry. It shipped within 24 hours and I received it in less than 24 hours after it shipped.
excelente.......2000-01-12
The Only You Will Ever Need on Flow Meters.......1998-06-13
Highly detailed in every way. Complete equations suitable for computer programming. In fact, Rosemount and other companies refer to this handbook exclusively. The index is the best way to use this book. As handbooks go, it is easy to use and an excellent compilation of vendor information as well as original R&D information. There are a few quarks in the equations for integral orifices, but the actual errors are negligable. I got improved equations from Rosemount. The only reason why I did not give 5 stars is that it takes some time to dig information from the handbook. It's all there, but, it takes time to digest it. You must have this book if you encounter instruments, particularly, flow metes, during your work. You must have this book!
Book Description
At 18, Corita Kent (1918-1986) entered the Roman Catholic order of Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Los Angeles, where she taught art and eventually ran the art department. After more than 30 years, at the end of the 1960s, she left the order to devote herself to making her own work. Over a 35-year career she made watercolors, posters, books and banners--and most of all, serigraphs--in an accessible and dynamic style that appropriated techniques from advertising, consumerism and graffiti. The earliest of it, which she began showing in 1951, borrowed phrases and depicted images from the Bible; by the 1960s, she was using song lyrics and publicity slogans as raw material. Eschewing convention, she produced cheap, readily available multiples, including a postage stamp. Her work was popular but largely neglected by the art establishment--though it was always embraced by such design luminaries as Charles and Ray Eames, Buckminster Fuller and Saul Bass. More recently, she has been increasingly recognized as one of the most innovative and unusual Pop artists of the 1960s, battling the political and religious establishments, revolutionizing graphic design and making some of the most striking--and joyful--American art of her era, all while living and practicing as a Catholic nun. This first study of her work, organized by Julie Ault on the twentieth anniversary of Kent's death, with essays by Ault and Daniel Berrigan, is the first to examine this important American outsider artist's life and career, and contains more than 90 illustrations, many of which are reproduced for the first time, in vibrant, and occasionally Day-Glo, color.
Customer Reviews:
Unexpected art star.......2007-08-31
I haven't gotten through reading about Sister Corita, but I'm already completely inspired by her. Her art was ahead of its time, and although many of the topics were religious, they were often ideas anyone can relate to. Her use of current events in culture and politics was applied to her prints in such beautiful ways. I highly recommend this book to any graphic designer, printmaker, or artist if you want to add something different to your bookshelf.

Customer Reviews:
Good but not as good as the handbook.......2007-06-27
I have both the calculations book by Brian McPartland and the NEC Handbook by Brian and his dad Joe. I prefer the handbook more, although you may want both. My problem with this book is that it was not proofed adequately for math errors and typos. I have found at least four computational errors in the examples.
I am not to impressed with this book because it does not take you too far beyond the examples already in the NEC or beyond the obvious. The explainations of why they are computing things the way they are (logic behind the computations) are all explained in the Handbook. Many of the examples are merely duplications of the handbook examples. If you want one good book, buy the Handbook. Don't waste money on the NEC handbooks published by NFPA. They merely waste space by quoting the NEC with some useless comments thrown in. McPartland is the only guy who has ever written a handbook worth having that goes in depth as to why the code is the way it is.
Book Description
Judy Chicago's masterpiece The Dinner Party is a monumental work of art conceived as a symbolic history of women in Western civilization. Strategically countering the traditional erasure of women's achievements, this epic installation honours 1038 iconic, mythical, archetypal and historical women. This, the most definitive book to be published on Chicago's masterwork, reveals more fully than ever before the art and the artist's expanded research into the rich history embodied in the installation. In lively contextualizing sections, Chicago discusses the creative genesis of The Dinner Party, the technical processes involved, and the work's early - often hostile - reception by the art world, and its subsequent preservation and permanent exhibition.
A magnificently produced book and the ultimate source on an iconic work that is taught in art history and women's studies courses around the world
Profusely illustrated throughout with documentary images and new photography that displays the work in detail
Publication coincides with the release of Gail Levin's major biography, Becoming Judy Chicago, followed by the opening in March 2007 of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art, Brooklyn Museum, New York, permanent home of The Dinner Party
Customer Reviews:
THE DINNER PARTY.......2007-06-12
THIS IS A COMPREHENSIVE AND BEAUTIFULLY PRESENTED VOLUME ABOUT A COMPLEX AND HIGHLY ORIGINAL WORK OF ART.
An excellent, illustrated guide to the art of Judy Chicago........2007-05-19
The Dinner Party: From Creation to Reservation offers up an excellent, illustrated guide to the art of Judy Chicago. All other books documenting her DINNER PARTY are all out of print, but even when they were available, none offered such an extensive, full-color treatment as does THE DINNER PARTY: FROM CREATION TO RESERVATION. Documentary photos follow its creation and an essay by Judy Chicago surveys the history of women, the collaborative effort involved, and the history of the work's exhibition. Perfect for college-level art libraries; especially those with some works on Judy Chicago already in their holdings.

Book Description
The past decade has seen an extraordinarily intense period of experimentation with computer technology within the performing arts. Digital media has been increasingly incorporated into live theater and dance, and new forms of interactive performance have emerged in participatory installations, on CD-ROM, and on the Web. In Digital Performance, Steve Dixon traces the evolution of these practices, presents detailed accounts of key practitioners and performances, and analyzes the theoretical, artistic, and technological contexts of this form of new media art.
Dixon finds precursors to today's digital performances in past forms of theatrical technology that range from the deus ex machina of classical Greek drama to Wagner's Gesamtkunstwerk (concept of the total artwork), and draws parallels between contemporary work and the theories and practices of Constructivism, Dada, Surrealism, Expressionism, Futurism, and multimedia pioneers of the twentieth century. For a theoretical perspective on digital performance, Dixon draws on the work of Walter Benjamin, Roland Barthes, Jean Baudrillard, and others.
To document and analyze contemporary digital performance practice, Dixon considers changes in the representation of the body, space, and time. He considers virtual bodies, avatars, and digital doubles, as well as performances by artists including Stelarc, Robert Lepage, Merce Cunningham, Laurie Anderson, Blast Theory, and Eduardo Kac. He investigates new media’s novel approaches to creating theatrical spectacle, including virtual reality and robot performance work, telematic performances in which remote locations are linked in real time, Webcams, and online drama communities, and considers the "extratemporal" illusion created by some technological theater works. Finally, he defines categories of interactivity, from navigational to participatory and collaborative. Dixon challenges dominant theoretical approaches to digital performance--including what he calls postmodernism’s denial of the new--and offers a series of boldly original arguments in their place.

Book Description
Poetic and lush, Robert Rauschenberg's Combines present layers of complex and sometimes conflicting information. This approach, first explored by Rauschenberg in the early 1950s, proved prescient and has become increasingly relevant in the current age of cascading information, when even the most ground-breaking artists are referencing and sampling disparate elements to create new forms. The Combines suggest the fragility of definitions, the fluidity of materials, and the complexity of forms that are characteristic of Rauschenberg's works. The artist's handling of materials provides a precise physical evolutionary link between the painterly qualities of Abstract Expressionism and iconographical, subject-driven early Pop Art. This book focuses on the works created roughly between 1954 and 1964, the most important decade in the artist's 50-year career, and constitutes the most complete survey of the Combines ever presented, as well as the most rigorous analysis of their political, social, autobiographical, and aesthetic significance. An introductory essay by exhibition curator Paul Schimmel titled "Reading Rauschenberg" offers an iconographic analysis of the earlier Combines, based on in-depth conversations with the artist. Other texts help to contextualize the Combines, such as Thomas Crow's essay that calls them the major artistic statement of their time, and the one body of art that could simultaneously hold its own from De Kooning to Pop art.
Customer Reviews:
Must have for fans.......2007-10-03
Living in a place where its rare to see an original Rauschenberg combine, this book has standout photgraphs of the works, with detailed views to complement the full image- the first two essays also provide some keen insights into the processes and influences on Rauschenberg's life and work. Definitely recommend for artists
or interested art followers. These works constitute what I think were the finest in his career.
The best art exhibit of 2006.......2007-04-07
It is great to be able to have this book as a remembrance of the great exhibition it illustrates. Every single piece reproduced here is a masterpiece of creativity and the quality of the reproductions do justice to the works of art, which is no small achievement considering that the Combines are intricate mixtures of sculptures and paintings. You also discover what a master of color the artist is, an aspect often overlooked by his critics. I love Rauschenberg's Combines, they give me joy, they make me happy and so does this book.
Robert Rauschenberg: Man or Genius Man?.......2006-04-27
This book blatantly rocks my world. It has a very nice selection of images, and is much more affordable than the godly $900 retrospective catalogue. Amen.
daringly junky, breathtaking, beautiful.......2006-02-10
This book is a catalogue for current exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and then the Museum of Contemporary Art, LA, and in Europe at the Pompidou Center, Paris and the Moderna Museet, Stockholm.
As installed at the Metropolitan Museum of art, the show is stunning. It's astonishing that this exhibit is the first time these works from the 1950's have been shown together. These "combines" -- art somewhere between painting, collage, and sculpture -- are a foundation of modern art, so much so that art of the second half of the century is hardly conceivable without them. This makes looking at the work afresh more difficult than usual, since seeing these pieces together in 2006 means also viewing through a legacy and school of influence.
But what phenomenal pieces they are! You can see Rauschenberg gobbling down visual techniques whole - collage, assemblage, juxtaposing printed images, materials, sculpture. They are daringly junky and breathtakingly beautiful. I have know idea whether you'd call this conceptual art, or the most luscious, messy opposite of conceptual art you've ever seen. The works are fearlessness. Really inspiring.
The catalogue has excellent reproductions, and the photography is quite good at conveying the depth of the pieces - some of the works are presented from several angles so the more sculptural pieces are well conveyed.
A Richly Rewarding Survey of the Gifts of Robert Rauschenberg.......2006-02-07
ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG: COMBIINES is the name of an exhibition currently on display and one garnering some of the warmest acceptance by both critics and public alike of any retrospective survey in years. Not that Rauschenberg is a 'discovery' unearthed by this generous volume: there have been many excellent monographs and catalogues printed about this extraordinarily gifted artist who for the past half century has been creating art from found and constructed objects.
Rauschenberg's art has always had secondary messages - political, anti-war, ethnic, sexual, and ecological statements - housed in the fascinatingly complex assemblages that are part of the collections of the major museums around the world. This fine book limits its survey to the prescient years 1954 to 1964, that period during which Rauschenberg became well known and highly respected for his art and beliefs. Curator Paul Schimmel writes a fine essay about this period and accompanies his own perceptions with those garnered from a very informative shared conversation with Rauschenberg himself. Likewise Thomas Crow writes an immensely readable chapter on just how Rauschenberg came in this realm of artistic expression and from Crow's writing we learn much about the mid-century changes in American art.
The reproductions of the art works are excellent and if there aren't as many images as one would wish, it is because of the self-imposed limited time frame in Rauschenberg's career of the exhibition. A fine volume, highly recommended for all art history majors and for those under the spell of this great artist. Grady Harp, February 06
