Excellent for young budding artists.......2006-08-25
I got this for my sons 9th Birthday - it give the basics of 3D drawing in a way that children of his age can understand. I would recommend this book to people with children who enjoy drawing and would like to improve the results
Good book to learn how to draw.......2005-09-26
I'm trying to learn how to draw now because I was afraid to take art classes in high school. This book has made it fun. I really liked the "how to draw cars" by the same author. This book was not as helpful but it is still a good book.
Thank Heavens for Dubosque.......2005-09-13
With 8 grandchildren under 10 years of age, this book has delighted all of them. We have 3 budding artists and now the others are becoming more creative. The Dubosque books are an answer to parents who are not artistic or don't have the time to answer all their questions. With our schools eliminating many arts programs it will be up to parents to interest their children in the finer things, which begin with the basics.
Thank you for a delightful, useful book.

Ideal for Pre-Teen and Beginning Artists.......2003-01-21
"DRAW 3-D" by Doug DuBosque is a friendly and painless introduction to the ABCs of perspective drawing. The text has a conversational feel and is easy to understand, using short words and simple explanations aided by 2-5 very clear illustrations (and an occasional photograph) on every single page.
I went through the whole book, practice-drawing as I read, in about a week, since it's only 63 pages and I was already familiar with some of the principles discussed thanks to the most excellent "How To Draw Comics the Marvel Way" by John Buscema & Stan Lee.
I think "DRAW 3-D" is easy enough for a kid of about 9 or older to understand most of it, and all of it if he or she has an older artist handy to explain and demonstrate (or to console and encourage, because it sure is exasperating when you forget which of those 20 straight lines goes where). It will not teach you to draw a perspective view from an object plan, or to draw a perfect square in perspective, but if you are completely new to perspective drawing and want a good introduction to the subject, this is the book for you.
Try it! If you reach the point where you don't need it anymore, and haven't become sentimentally attached to it in the meantime, it will make a great gift for anyone else interested in drawing.
Splendid!.......1999-09-24
I bought three beginning drawing books for my 9 year old, and this one was his favorite (one on how to draw cartoons was a close second). The first exercise, which is to spell out your name using 3-D letters, caught his interest right away, and he's been back to the book several times on his own initiative.

Customer Reviews:
Great Book!.......2007-08-08
This is a great book! I think injustice is done if you rate it low! I rate it 5 stars because it is a resourceful book for learning or teaching 3D CAD. I am using it as a textbook in my AutoCad 3D class and both myself and the students appreciate the organization, samples and exercises of the book. The accompanying CD Rom is good: it provides the exercises and samples drawn in the book.
I enjoyed that book a lot!
For a long time I was searching for a good resource book for teaching 3D CAD and I finally got what I wanted with this book.
So far, comparing to other 3D CAD books I have seen in the market this is the best.
PS: I have ordered many issues of this book for my students and so far I have not had any problem with opening the CD from its sealed envelope.
CD is glued in.......2007-02-06
The book is great. The CD, however, is glued into the binding of the book, making it inaccessible. It is in a sealed envelope in the back of the book, and evidently it slipped down and got glued into the binding.

Mark Kistler.......2007-01-11
I am a professional artist and occasional art teacher but Mark Kistler products will teach my grandchildren better than I could. He is fun and has a gift for getting kids excited about art.
missing info. prior to purchase........2006-07-25
I like the book, but wish it included some information prior to purchase that it's best to buy the "work book" to go along with it!
Love it!.......2003-09-02
I spend about a a half hour with this book every day - or a couple hours every other day. It's great for building confidence and practice.
Ever feel that books like "Drawing on the right side of the brain" were somehow sterile and lifeless? This book is chock full of a million creative drawings that can be done with a little patience.
Me draw.....yeah uh-huh right.......2002-08-22
My 8 year old son is quite the artist. He can draw what he sees. He was given this book by my mother and ignored it for quite awhile.....so one hot boring summer day while cleaning his room I found it and started messing around.....I am so amazed at what I have put on paper. I am a 35 year old woman who can't draw more than a stick figure....well not anymore!!! Not only does my refrigerator door have my childrens art work -- IT HAS MINE!!!! THANK YOU MARK! Did not know what I was missing.
Fantastic Fun!!!.......1999-04-07
Mark Kistler has done it again! As an avid reader of his past writings, I was pleased to see he has raised the bar on drawing instruction yet another notch. He continues to amaze in his newest book! He imparts his drawing lessons in an extremely entertaining and fun manner. I am always amazed at how he so adeptly reaches an audience that spans so many generations. My eighty-year old grandfather enjoyed his latest book as much as my ten-year old daughter. I was especially delighted to see that a companion workbook was offered and I must say it lived up to my highest expectations! Thank you Mark Kistler!!!

Great way to challenge child's mind!.......2001-08-30
I think Marks books are wonderful, hands down! My daughter did the Draw Squad book when she was 10 and now she's 14 and draws like a pro. She gets better every day, thanks to these books!
Draw, Draw, Draw!.......2000-05-19
Mark Kistler has created a series of drawing books, videos and T.V. shows that teach and encourage children to draw in 3-D. His Draw Squad and Imagination Station books are full of fun, interesting and challenging drawing lessons. In this book, 'Mark Kistler's Drawing In 3-D Wacky Workbook', he provides a convenient and easy way to practice drawing and keep a drawing journal. The lessons in this book accompany another book, 'Drawing in 3-D with Mark Kistler.' This workbook provides space to practice the lessons found in the drawing book. I found the book to be a good way to encourage daily drawing practice. The lessons are compelling enough to keep children motivated. The characters are fun and friendly, and still challenging enough to keep children stretching in their artistic endeavors. The only downfall of this workbook is that it is directly dependent on the 'Drawing In 3-D' book and does not stand well on its own. Otherwise, as a practice and art journalling tool, it is helpful. I recommend this and all of Mark Kistler's books to teach children about art concepts and how to draw, draw, draw in 3-D.

Mark Kistler's Drawing In 3-D Wacky Workbook.......2000-05-18
Mark Kistler has created fun, exciting, and challenging drawing lessons in his Draw Squad and Imagination Station books. Using a few simple rules, he teaches how to draw 3-D scenes, objects and characters. This book, "Drawing In 3-D Wacky Workbook", is a companion to Mark Kistler's "Drawing In 3-D." When used with "Drawing In 3-D", the Wacky Workbook becomes a place to practice the skills and characters taught. I like the fresh, fun drawings he teaches. When used thoughtfully, the book becomes an art journal, showing how you are improving as you go through the book. The skills learned can be applied in many and various ways. The only objection I would have is that it does not stand well on its own, but depends on the "Drawing In 3-D" book for it to make sense. Otherwise, it is a fine tool to help children practice their drawing and record their progress.

Customer Reviews:
A great beginning for any age.......2005-07-21
While aimed at kids, this is a great place to start at any age. If you have been looking at other drawing books, and the books you have seen before only make it harder, your search is over. Mark makes it easy for anyone at any age to get basic drawing skills, the building blocks you need to get started. He teaches the skills that other books make seem complex, without the stress or making it go over your head. His way of teaching is simply the easiest method a person can have to start drawing. And if the books are good, his old show on PBS and his videos are even better. Mark makes drawing so fun kids beg to use the book again and again. He does not start by intimidating you with the completed project, in fact you don't always know what you are drawing until you are done. He takes you one line, circle, or square at a time and before you know it you have a fun drawing. I also reccommend you try the books from Ed Emberly, or check my lists on Amazon for kids that want to learn to draw, or be a cartoonist or animator.
Excellent drawing tutorial for kids and for kids-at-heart.......2002-12-20
I bought this book to relearn how to draw properly. While the book is directed at a young audience, adults-at-heart like me will benefit from the drawing principles such as foreshortening, placement, size, overlapping, shading and shadowing, contour and horizon (plus 1 and 2 point perspectives). My disappointments were that a few later lessons repeat previous lessons and that it uses blank pages after each lesson for you to practice on. I suggest you use a separate sheet of paper to do this so you can pass this book to your kids and their kids and so on and so forth. Despite these, I still rate it 5 stars.
I can now draw simple everyday objects both as cartoons and as realistically as I can. They're not professional quality yet, the book recommends daily practice until they are and that's exactly what I'm doing.
This isn't the only book you should buy though if you want to draw artistically. In my case, I'd like to draw comics-style characters and objects so I can move on to animating them later. I got Tom Alvarez's "How to Create Action, Fantasy and Adventure Comics" (separately reviewed) which is also an excellent how-to book.
Want to learn to draw .....start here.......2000-11-16
Mark Kistler's books are EXCELLENT for anyone who want to learn to draw. The layout of the book is fun easy to follow. Although it is geared toward children it is appropriate for a beginner adult. It starts with simple concepts and gradually builds on what you've already learned. Anyone at any age will be impressed by what you will be drawing in a short amount of time. I bought this book for my children and was so impressed , I started drawing myself. My children love this book and so do I.
Page after page of drawing fun!.......2000-04-11
Mark Kistler's books are wonderful, entertaining books that canteach anyone (of any age) how to draw! I bought his books for my sons, and I quickly became a devoted fan and an avid drawing maniac myself! The book is packed with pages of fun drawings, as well as 'story starters' in which kids are asked to complete the story. Mark's enthusiasm for drawing and story-telling just bubbles up out of the pages of this book. As a mom, I appreciate his encouragement for kids to watch less tv, say NO to violent video games and drugs, and to expand their brain power by getting involved in art. This book is a 'must have' for all teachers and parents who would like to see their kids motivated to express their creativity and feel good about their drawing ability.
After working with this book, even you can draw!.......2000-02-12
If you think you stink at drawing, think again! Mark Kistler shows you how, step by step, to draw pictures that really look like something and tell a story besides!

This unique, interactive alphabet-art book provides hours of fun as children (and grown-ups, too) learn to draw everything from alligators to zebras, clowns to xylophones.

Bright, colorful illustrations and easy-to-follow directions make it easy for children to draw things they never imagined they could.
