Book Description
Geo-Metrics III is an extensively revised edition of the most respected and widely-read book on geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, the technical drawing language for designing and manufacturing component parts of a mechanical product. Completely up to date, this new edition takes its reference from the content of the latest ANSI/ASME Y14.5M standard as well as harmonizing with the principles of related ISO international standards. It is also supportive of the ISO 9000 series of international standards policies and directives.

Tolerancing for Dummies.......2001-05-09
A very well writen book I had no problem understanding the text and the examples given for creating objects was very simple I picked up on creating tolerancs very easy I would recemond this book to anyone starting out doing tolerancing
Understand Geometric Tolerancing.......2000-09-04
Was reading the new rev. of the ARINC 600 Spec. Used a co-workers copy of of Geo-Metrics III to figure out a tolerance note I wasn't sure of. This book has the clearest descriptions of Geometric tolerancing with detail showing how to read and apply notes I have ever seen. I immediately copied the title pape so I could get my own copy. By the way, I am an electro-mechanical engineer.
Probably the best available.......1998-05-20
Foster presents essentially all of the basics required for understanding GD&T. I've taken associated training courses using Geo-Metrics II and III and found the books to be excellent reference materials. However, I found the text to be rather convoluted and boring. Coupled with the excellent graphics representations, one will come to an understanding of the principles.
Book Description

Customer Reviews:
frustrated reader.......2006-11-23
I had a very frustrating experience two times I tried to buy this book...each time I recieved book that had no illustrations or plates or diagrams that were listed in the contents...I had books with 174 pages when the book is supposed to have 300 pages...I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS ABOUT BUT I FINALLY CALLED BORDERS AND THEY HAVE THE BOOK WITH 300 PAGES WHICH I bought WITH A SIGH OF RELIEF.
NOT a "how to draw" book........2006-04-22
I purchased this based on the numerous reviews here and glowing recommendations elsewhere online, but it has turned out to be the poorest choice and truly the most useless book on drawing I've ever read. I wish I hadn't ignored the fact that others commented about nearly everything except actual drawing instruction. I wish my mind had registered the key words analysis and theory in so many others glowing reviews. If you want to learn to draw, or learn to actually apply lines, mass, tone, balance, proportion, etc. to improve your drawing skills then look elsewhere. However, if you want to read one author's horribly long winded rambling lectures about how these things influence art, perception, and the psyche then this is the book for you. This is far more an analysis of drawing as it relates to art than it is a tutorial. Nearly three hundred pages and you could compress the portions related to applying these ideas to your own drawing down to two dozen pages at most.
Excellent basic text on drawing.......2006-01-17
This is one of the very best books on drawing I have ever read, and I've read several dozen. Speed argues that people normally see what they would feel if they could touch what they are looking at. Hence the tendency to draw outlines around things even though we don't actually find outlines around things in nature. Learning to draw is unlearning these ingrained habits and replacing them with a way of seeing how things appear on the retina and then finding ways to represent this retinal image with lines or masses. He makes a big deal about these two ways of drawing -- line drawing and mass drawing. He covers all the important basic topics -- unity, variety, balance, proportion, rhythm. His explanations are clear and straightforward. The writing is a bit old fashioned but highly readable. He illustrates his main points clearly with line drawings and b&w reproductions. I took ten pages of notes that I will study often. I can think of no better book for a serious student of drawing.
Superb, insightful, masterful theory analysis of drawing.......2005-10-09
Before art instructors of the late 20th and early 21st century Betty Edwards or Mona Brookes shared their insights with us, Harold Speed wrote this profoundly analytical handbook explaining the psychological and technical foundations of drawing and observation, i.e. line drawing and mass drawing, and much, much more. Although his English is stiff, and perhaps colloquial to the locale where his style of English English was spoken (where he was raised or lived) and the 19th and 20th century periods in which he lived, it is still readable and understandable.
I found his tightly dissected views of how the (young person's) mind starts to perceive objects and to draw them, and how early artists approached drawing to be very helpful.
It contains clear explanations that methodically lay out the appoaches by which artists apply their talents. In doing so, he helps us to become more analytical and more understanding of art and the world around us. This work by Harold Speed helps us become better observers. It is the most penetrating book on drawing techniques I have found. This book is an excellent investment at about $10.00 on Amazon.con.
Had to return the item.......2005-10-02
The copy that I received had no plates/diagrams although it had plenty of references to the plates/drawings that should have been there. I returned the book. A disappointing purchase. I gave 1 star because it is not possible to give no stars.

Not what I thought it was..........2006-11-16
If you are looking for reference materials to take the California Engineering Surveying Exam as part of the Civil Engineer's PE exam, this is not the book you want. It doesn't cover the general concepts that an engineer is looking for. Seems to directed more at a person working on a surveying crew instead.
Good introduction to basic surveying terminology and methods.......1999-07-03
Requires a connecting book to enable reader to work with modern day total stations and the softwares available with them. Typically, advanced topics such as developing set-collection of survey points, their imporance and criteria for selection etc.

Customer Reviews:
Good device book for both process and design engineers.......1997-12-31
This book explains well about several MOSFET models for SPICE simulations with informative historical review. MOSFET model parameters is now essential for semiconductor chip design as a communication tool between process/device engineers and circuit designers. In this book, starting from compact description of MOSFET physics, several well-known models are described seperately. So beginners can read only what they need. In addition, reading throughout introduction and final comments of each chapters give us information on progress of MOSFET models. If possible, I want to have an additional chapter which compares several models from the viewpoints of physical modeling and robustness of circuit simulation. Anyway, I recommend this book both to process and design engineers as well as modeling engineers for effective development of future semiconductor chips.

Book Description
At the heart of feminist theory lies the seemingly intractable issue of essentialism. Feminism has thus far failed to transcend critiques of essentialism, and currently offers only two inadequate positions against it. One response reifies the category "women," representing the experience of oppression of privileged women as archetypal for feminism, and the other denies the category because it unjustly overgeneralizes, thus undercutting the possibility of a robust theory of gender oppression. To spur anti-essentialist methods and practice around such issues as sexual violence, feminist theory crucially needs a constructive and politically powerful strategy for defining women.
Cressida J. Heyes deftly elucidates and then travels beyond the essentialism debates to rescue the efficacy of feminist theory for activism and research. She offers a genealogy of essentialism, specifically as it applies to the work of Carol Gilligan and Catharine MacKinnon, and employs a Wittgensteinian approach to feminism that understands similarities between women as family resemblances and political decisions about inclusion and exclusion as contextual and purposive. Line Drawings argues for an anti-essentialist method that enables generalizing feminist discourse but insists on paying close attention to the operations of power in constructing claims about women. This is a fresh and vitally important step past stymied debate on what is arguably the most pressing issue in cross-disciplinary feminist theory.
Customer Reviews:
"Doing" Feminist Theory.......2003-02-07
Dr. Heyes writes lucidly of coming to terms with the conflict between traditional "pure" philosopical theorizing (i.e. Western, linear, exclusive) and "rough" feminist practice (universal, nonlinear, inclusive.) If you like Wittgenstein, you may be shocked at where she has taken his ideas!
Graduate-level reading.

Book Description
Shell-type structures can be found almost everywhere. They appear in natural forms but also as man-made, load-bearing components in diverse engineering systems. Mankind has struggled to replicate nature’s optimization of such structures but using modern computational tools it is now possible to analyse, design and optimise them systematically. Analysis and Optimization of Prismatic and Axisymmetric Shell Structures features: comprehensive coverage of the background theory of shell structures; development and implementation of reliable, creative and efficient computational tools for static and free-vibration analysis and structural optimization of variable-thickness shells and folded-plate structures; integrated computer-aided curve and surface modelling tools and automatic mesh generation, structural analysis sensitivity analysis and mathematical programming methods; CD-ROM containing well-documented Fortran software for these techniques using finite element and finite strip simulations which can be readily adapted by the reader for the solution of practical problems or for use within a teaching or research environment. Written by leading experts in finite element and finite strip methods, Analysis and Optimization of Prismatic and Axisymmetric Shell Structures will be of great interest to researchers in structural mechanics and in automotive, aerospace and civil engineering as well as to designers from all fields using shell structures for their strength-per-unit-mass advantages.
