Customer Reviews:
Best Book on Industrial Refrigeration Systems.......2006-09-14
It's an oldie, but a goodie! It's still useful ,relevant and dependable. For readers who want the kindergarten pictorial paperback, here you will be greatly disappointed. It does have clear schematical drawings and diagrams,in no-nonsense black and white. The formulas and equations are plentiful and helpful. It's just the best handbook on all aspects and applications for workplace industrial refrigeration operations.I have not found another ,in this particular area, that is on par or better than this one.
Great info, but not for the average person.......2004-04-27
I enjoyed reading this book as a more intermediate industrial Mechanic, but for that price I expected a book with glossy pictures. I feel the book was over priced for a bunch of pages with drawings. Just a few black and white pics of equipment, and lots of complicated other stuff. The best pic was the cover. To really teach somebody this field you need to be a lot more visual.
I wouldn't recommend this book to a beginner. It would be a bit frustrating. But for someone who just wants a reference book with lots of useful information I think this book is for you.
The book for all refrigeration system designers.......2000-06-04
I have covered this book in length-no other book or handbook comes close in terms of simplicity of it's explaination. The latest ASHRAE Refrigeration Handbook is a good reference to have when using this book as there are cross references.Value for money and looking forward to the next book that would be specific on Ammonia Refrigeration Systems design.
Best industrial refrigeration book ever made!.......1999-11-20

Super Disappointed.......2006-08-10
Although this book has a lot of information, it lacks examples and sample problems which help to provide the design confidence I was looking for in an HVAC text. In my opinion this books only value is as a reference for the experienced HVAC engineer.
Excellent.......2003-04-26
This book is one of the best I have come across....the complete guide for HVAC engineers. I have many HVAC books, but this is the top of the tops...well illustrated formulae, diagramatic illustrations, plus controls schedules...discussed issues and common scenarios pertaining to design. Well done Shan Wang
Excellent!!.......2002-04-22
Very complete handbook. Very good ilustrations and up to date. Good reference for HVAC experienced engineers or for students.
I think this book is useful to me........1999-12-04
I have read about 50 handbooks about air conditioning or HVAC system, among all these books I think this one is easy to understand and I can find almost what I want in this book.

Book Description
Architects were once charged with designing entire buildings, including the HVAC, lighting and power systems. But with the advent of more complex technologies, engineers and other specialists became responsible for these systems, with architects assuming expanded roles as team managers. The latest edition of Building Control Systems provides architecture students with the larger picture without overwhelming them with details. In emphasizing a conceptual understanding of the functions of various systems and how they interact with building components, the book provides the exact information that tomorrow's architects will need to effectively communicate and coordinate with consultants in all of the many building disciplines. This revised Second Edition covers the theoretical bases for thermal control
the systems used to control the thermal environment within buildings
various electrical systems, including power and lighting
such building control topics as plumbing services and fire protection
and economics-based design decision making. Building Control Systems, Second Edition provides coverage of:
- New building designs that minimize our dependence on nonrenewable fuels and use only a "fair share" of renewable fuels with important steps toward cutting costs and preserving precious resources
- Such pressing environmental concerns as indoor air quality, "sick building syndrome," noise pollution, global warming, and depletion of the ozone layer and the impact on building design
- New technologies, including new passive thermal control systems designed to minimize energy consumption
- The latest building codes for architects and specialists on the design team
Thoroughly up to date, this book provides architecture students with theoretical information they must have as they assume the dual roles of designer and manager. This guide will also prove to be a useful on-the-job tool for architects, designers, builders, developers, contractors, beginning HVAC designers, and building managers.
Customer Reviews:
An excellent book crammed with information.......2006-11-11
Mr Bradshaw does an excellent job in presenting an enormous amount of information in a very clear manner. It is an overview, yet it gives very detailed information. It is aimed at architectural students, which I am not, but I needed information and this has helped me enormously.
Bad.......2002-02-15
I really needed this book and after I ordered it I thought great. Then days later I got an email saying They didnt have it so I was being credited. If you dont have the book DONT POST IT!!

The bible.......2007-04-11
If you are a designer or installer of Solar Hot Water and Heating-
Buy this book. I know its expensive, but it is worth it!
Nothing I have seen from the US is even close.
One small draw back is that you will have to convert from metric.

Book Description
A practical overview of what to consider when designing a building's heating, cooling, ventilating and humidifying systems along with their space, power, control and other requirements. Includes the latest concepts, applications, basic design problems and their solutions. Packed with examples to facilitate understanding.
Book Description
* Presents the collaborative work of international experts from research, industry and academia in the IEA solar heating and cooling programme’s Task 26, Solar Combisystems
* Details methods for analysing and optimizing combisystems for different house types
* Introduces standardized classification and evaluation processes and design tools for these systems
The use of solar collectors for domestic hot water over the past 20 years has demonstrated that solar heating systems are now founded on a reliable and mature technology. However, the development of similar, but more complex, systems to provide both domestic hot water and space heating (solar combisystems) resulted in a diverse range of different designs that were not carefully optimized to reflect local climate and practice.
Application of energy-efficient building strategies such as improved thermal insulation and use of low temperature heat supply systems is becoming increasingly common. This trend, combined with growing environmental awareness and the subsidies available in certain countries, favors an increase in market share for solar combisystems. The need for guidelines in selecting the appropriate system and designing this system according to the specific needs of the building and the local environment is therefore now increasingly pressing. This book fills that need.
Contributors include key figures working on solar combisystems worldwide (Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, USA).
Customer Reviews:
A great book for combisystems.......2007-01-09
This book is a must for anyone who deals with or want to learn about solar combisystems. The book is actually a study (Task26) about 21 combisystems that generally are installed in many places is Europe including real examples based on these systems. It describes important aspects such as designing and dimensioning, behaviour and maintenance, performance in regards to different climates and types of construction. Many many references are included, book, internet links.
Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Title should be "Air Handling Diagrams.".......2002-01-20
The book is very informative having the most diagrams of air handlers and VAV boxes I have seen in one source. Diagrams are fairly thorough with the inclusion of heating and cooling coils and "some" additional control features. I was hoping for more detail on the piping of heating and cooling coils with various control valve confirgurations. It is still an excellent book if you want to compare air handling configurations.
Dave Herrington - HVAC Tech - University of Alaska-Fairbanks
Good.......1999-10-23
Only one thing I have to complain about is: all controls are pneumatic. With wide access to DDC controls today, I do not get it, why autor missed DDC systems. With DDC you can control HVAC equipment with greater precision and software is giving us so much flexibility.
Book Description
Process vent header collection systems are subject to continually varying compositions and flow rates and thus present significant challenges for safe design. Due to increasingly demanding safety, health, environmental, and property protection requirements, today's industrial designers are faced with the need to create increasingly complex systems for more effective treatment, dispersal, or disposal of process gases.
