Very extensive collection of pots. There were several I have never seen before in any other publication.
Could be organized in a more user friendly manner, but would still reccomend the book to any Hall collector.

    Book Description

Feel the warmth and delight of Christmas past in this lushly illustrated book capturing the nostalgia, charm, and sparkling beauty of vintage holiday decorations.

Ralph and David focus their wit and camera lens on the charming vintage decorations that have made Christmas so memorable over the years. This enchanting collection captures the wonder and beauty and will rekindle the child–like wonder that Christmas has inspired over the years.

    Things that will be included:

•Celluloid light–up Santa's, snowmen, music–box churches, angel tree–toppers (with foil wings and glowing halos!).

•Five–and–dime nativity sets (from tiny plastic ones to the "fancier" models!).

•Odd ceramic figurines. These used to be found lurking around in homemade snowdrifts atop TV sets and on martini carts all across the country.

•Putz houses the little glittery paper villages that sprung up from the 30's to the 60's

•Pinecone people elves, pixies, angels, snowmen, Santa's.

3 out of 5 stars Just a small sampling of items pictured........2007-07-09

The pictures are beautifully done, but most all of them have only one collectible in each picture. The front cover led me to believe the book would contain photos of Christmas villages or settings, not individual santas or angels. I walked away from the book feeling like it was just a small sampling, not enough to do a whole book on.

4 out of 5 stars A little gem of book.......2006-12-27

Ralph Del Pozzo and David High take readers back to Christmas past in their book, CHRISTMASLAND. The book contains a charming display of vintage Christmas figurine decorations that probably date back to the 1940s to 1960s as well as commentary from the authors. Del Pozzo and High share little tidbits of popular Christmas history that reference origins of the most familiar figures and traditions that occur during holiday -- Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, Frosty the snowman, the artificial Christmas tree, candy canes, and many others.

Del Pozzo and High show their creative expertise in the fields of photography and design to conjure up the joys of Christmas past. With creativity, they recreate and bring to life a miniature winter wonderland, which magically displays ornamental objects that usually were not meant to be set up in a play-like fashion, but may have been displayed in a shadow box or on the kitchen table -- a snowman salt 'n' pepper shaker and collectible reindeers that were originally attached to a cardboard promotional recording disc of the Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer song. The figurines may have also fit perfectly with a train set village. And the most interesting aspect about the book is that most of the items exhibited in the book come from Del Pozzo's and High's personal collections, which they have accumulated throughout the years from childhood to the present.

CHRISTMASLAND will enchant the child in everyone. There's a chunk full of elves, angels, nativity figures and church steeples, and Old Saint Nick in different forms for all to enjoy. So, for those who remember the old five and dime stores, most of the items displayed in the book will and bring back memories of Christmas past.

    Book Description

A pictorial record of the bright, bold ceramic designs of Clarice Cliff, whose Art Deco tea services brightened the era with daring and style. Now in paperback, with 60 photos and auction prices from Christie's. The designs of Clarice Cliff are among the most striking and collectable ceramics produced in the 20th century. Angular and uncompromising, embellished in strident primary colors, they were a sensation when they appeared in the 1920s, capturing the spirit of the Art Deco movement. Her teaware is as sought after today as it was then, her most collected designs, such as her Bizarre ware, commanding high prices. This beautifully photographed book evokes the mood of the Art Deco era as it conveys the enormous charm and range of Cliff's work in china tea services. It offers a complete record of her teaware designs as well as a fascinating look at her life and work. Leonard Griffin is the author of Clarice Cliff: The Bizarre Affair. 128 pp 7 x 7 40 color & 15 b/w photos

5 out of 5 stars Receiving kudos for Clarice.......2007-03-28

As a collector of Clarice Cliff, I read almost anything relating to her. Clarice was way ahead of her time. She was an uneducated British girl in the 1920's who through hard work and brilliant ideas became a pioneer in art deco ceramics. Leonard Griffin is a master scholar of Clarice and this book was another one of his carefully reviewed study of her work.
Identifying her teaware as a celebration is absolutely true. Almost 80 years later, her work is more collectible than ever and it is fascinating to read how she evolved her designs and manufacturing ideas into the most beautiful teaware.

How in the world can anyone say the items in this book dont relate to each other. Sounds like you have NO sense of decorating! This book is one of the best books I have ever seen. It is unbelieveable all the ideas that are in this book! Definately a book I will keep and read over and over! Great ideas, inspiration and pictures, but only if you have an open mind and a creative style will you understand this book! Absolutely AMAZING!!!

I am a fan of Chris Mead, and he didn't let me down with thisbook. I love the way many of the homes are decorated in this book. Ilove white walls, and I am thrilled to see so many of them in this book. For all those decorator's that say "Give your home warmth with wall color, " here is my rebuttal. I LOVE the peacefulness of white walls and this book inadvertantly demonstrates just how wonderful all the flea market finds look against a white backdrop. The styles provided in this book are varied and clearly loved by the home owners. A wide range of economic approaches are demonstrated in this spectrum of flea market finds. A fun, informative book with wonderful pictures to garner ideas.

4 out of 5 stars I also recommend another book, Flea Market Decorating.......2000-03-24

This is a delightful book, but I also recommend a new book that's just out. It's Flea Market Decorating, which is full of fresh new ideas, especially about recasting old objects in new ways. For me, it captures the fun of going to flea markets and using those little treasures to personalize my home.

The pictures are nice, and funny, mine came with a defect that made me loose on 20 of them, and I am sad. Gives you nice ideas to display your dolls, but I think the pictures could have been a little better, don't know exactly why or how. I would buy it again. There is this one cute picture with a fashion queen that has her legs up in the air that says something like " 42 more and I can then eat the brownie I baked this morning" that made me laugh! :-)

5 out of 5 stars Picture Pretty Antiques.......2000-07-24

This is a beautifully-illustrated book and one my husband will treasure as one of his favorites. He recently started collecting old coffee mills so I bought this one for him as a surprise gift to get him started. He immediately started looking through it and FOUND the "two" grinders he has at this point. Boy, was he excited! I think I have created a "millaholic" as a result of buying him this book. The pictures and accompanying text are extremely helpful in the identifcation of many mills. We highly recommend it for the beginning collector. There's something in it for everyone from the pricey floor grinders to mills for the modestly pocketed collector, plus it also has an accompanying array of pictures of coffee makers and coffee memorabilia. Great book -- wish they would come out with a follow-up.

If anyone knows of any other coffee mill/grinder antique books that are out there and available would you let me know. I am on another quest.

    Thanks ...

A very nicely done brief discussion of British teaware, mainly cups and coffee cans. The text is short but informative. The pictures are excellent, well selected, and clearly reproduced, with useful captions. Good on handle types. My only objection is the price which is steep for such a very short book, though I feel it was worth it to me because of the fine pictures which I will continue to refer to.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth the time or cost.......2001-07-30

I found the book (40 pg. pamphlet) to be an abbreviated, superfical treatment of the subject. It has limited pictures and text. Perhaps the book does not satisfy my novice tastes, but I have difficulty identifying a constituency to which this book would appeal. If you are looking for a thorough treatment of the subject, try Jim & Susan Harran's book, Cups & Saucers - Identification & Values. Sorry to have wasted my money.

'Mastering Time' (Gisbert Brunner) is a compilation of the history of Heuer Watches, including a generous account of the TAG Heuer conglomerate after Heuer was purchased by TAG. The book is large, heavy, and a definite coffee table addition printed on heavy glossy stock. If you are a Heuer or TAG Heuer aficionado, this book is a definite must for your book collection on fine watches, containing beautiful color photos of such pieces as the original Heuer stopwatches, and a generous history on the company and its virtual monopoly on the early stopwatch/competition-style pieces of which Heuer was the top producer. Also, TAG Heuer is well represented, including exquisite photos of some of their best offerings, including the once very chic S/el automatic chronometer now out of production, which to my mind was one of the most classic and beautiful pieces ever produced by TAG Heuer.

This book is an excellent addition to the collection of any reader interested in fine timepieces, and I highly recommend it.
