Book Description
Get the bestselling guide to trading systems, now updated for the 21st century.
For more than two decades, futures traders have turned to the classic
Trading Systems and Methods for complete information about the latest, most successful indicators, programs, algorithms, and systems. Perry Kaufman, a leading futures expert highly respected for his years of experience in research and trading, has thoroughly updated this bestselling guide, adding more systems, more methods, and extensive risk analysis to keep this the most comprehensive and instructional book on trading systems today. His detailed, hands-on manual offers a complete analysis, using a systematic approach with in-depth explanations of each technique. This edition also includes a CD-ROM that contains the TradeStation EasyLanguage program, Excel spreadsheets, and Fortran programs that appear in the book.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent material in 4th edition.......2007-05-12
Similar to many traders who own Perry Kaufman's 3rd edition of New Trading Systems and Methods, I ignored the publication of the 4th edition. Well, such oversight was my loss. Even a quick perusal of the work reveals a wealth of new ideas, techniques, and concepts. Kaufman offers ample inspiration for exploring trading problems in a new light.
Kaufman's encyclopedic coverage is unique. The 3rd edition contains 700 plus dense, fast paced material. The current edition adds another 500 pages of new and revised material. Each topic is examined with care; Kaufman has an ability to focus on the key concepts and omit the fluff. His presentation assumes a sophisticated, intelligent reader with solid software development, testing, and trading skills. Sloppy readers, clumsy testers, undisciplined `traders' will complain that this is not a `trading war stories book'--such complaints are correct; this is a trading SYSTEMS and METHODS handbook.
The book binding has a problem. At 1,200 pages, the adhesive binding is falling apart. This book requires either sewn through or over-sewn type binding. Shame on John Wiley for such embarrassing production quality!
Might interest a mathematician.......2007-04-28
I've only gotten about a third to halfway thru the book as I can't see what the author's purpose is, whether laboring thru the rest would benefit me or not. It reads like a college level textbook of the mathematics behind technical analysis. Boring. In what I read, the author worked thru proof formulas to get to more elaborate indicators. In so doing, sometimes he explained what his formula's symbols meant and sometimes not. I sure don't want to go back thru the book to see if I can find an earlier description of what the symbols mean should I ever want to use one of the new formulas. Then he compared some of the new trend followers like standard deviation against olders ones like moving average and point and figure and behold none are really better than the others. When I get stranded on a tropical isle and am bored to tears, I will page thru the rest of it.
The only book I can depend on for clear system trading information........2007-01-27
After buying a large number of highly recommended trading books (including the books referred to in these reviews), this is the only book that I can depend on to clearly explain in technical detail almost any aspect of system trading that I need information on. This book is well written, comprehensive, and approaches subjects in an objective manner. It doesn't tell you how to trade, but clearly describes the different system trading strategies and indicators, their advantages and disadvantages, and practical considerations. This is a must for those developing rule based and automated trading systems.
What more could you ask for in a book???.......2006-10-02
Trading is serious business, although you wouldn't think so, considering the way many people approach it.
The fundamental truth about all types of markets is that the minority gets the money, and keeps it. Of course, there will be times where the market trends strongly in one direction (usually up), and the masses confuse a bull market for brains. But those who are serious about earning profits, and keeping them, need to develop a method or philosophy to separate their thoughts and actions to act independently from the crowd.
If there were college level courses in financial speculation, Kauffman's book would be the required text. All sorts of twists on trend following, counter trend strategies, technical indicators, statistical methods, as well as various charting techniques, are all described. I should also add, the book comes with a CD that enables you to test various methods described in the book using Excel spreadsheets. The spreadsheets are already set up, you just need to input the data.
Some reviewers say that all of the methods are "bad." I'd disagree. This book is a valuable reference, and when you understand the logic of what has come before, you can adapt it to current market conditions. There are a surprisingly large, but finite, number of ways to slice and dice market data. But there are an infinite number of ways to combine a few them into a robust trading system.
Solid technical analysis book.......2006-08-02
This book is worth the money. The author presents solid explanations on the use of technical indicators and statistical calculations of the market. He guides you step by step in order to understand the specific applications and use of technical analysis and use of mathematical calculations applied to the financial markets. The depth of research and examples is very broad and extensive, plus the examples of the actual programming code in order to create your own trading systems is very helpful. Recommended by MTA to complete the CMT course.

Book Description
Health and Health Care 2010, Second Edition, offers well-researched coverage of health insurance, managed care, health care providers, the health workforce, medical technologies, information technologies, consumerism, public health services, mental health, child health, health of the elderly, chronic care, and health behaviors, and more. Each of the volume's topics starts with historical background leading into the contemporary setting and is followed with predicted short-term developments and forecasts reaching to the year 2010. Acknowledging the difficulty of long-term predictions, even by experts, the projections are cast as "stormy," "long and winding," or "sunny."
Customer Reviews:
2010 Forecast is Behind the times.......2007-05-13
This text book is out of date even though it is a forecast up to 2010. The copywrite on it is 2000. Some of the issues the author presents are current for the year 2005 and this is already 2007.
An Excellent Reference on the Evolving Health Care Landscape.......2006-03-13
Where is our nation's health-care system headed in the next decade? And how will we cope with the inevitable collision of rising costs, politics and human needs?
This excellent book is one of the best overviews I've read on the topic. First published in late 2001, it's now available in an updated 2nd edition. It was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and compiled by the Institute for the Future. Even if you don't agree with all of the predictions, you will respect the honesty and thoroughness of the editors' work.
Unlike works of social criticism and political diatribe, this volume avoids most partisan positions in favor of evidence-based conclusions on the following main topics:
1. America's changing demographic structure (not just age, but also ethnicity, socio-economic status and other variables)
2. The changing role of hospitals and related health-care institutions
3. Political and economic pressures on rising health-care costs
4. The rise of tiered health-care and insurance changes
5. New directions for health-care technologies, such as targeted pharmaceuticals and imaging
6. Patterns in health-care employment and professional training
This well-written book is packed with valuable charts, graphs, source-notated facts and objective statistics from a wide variety of reliable sources. No matter what your position on each issue, you'll find this a volume a tremendous resource for analysis and discussion. Well done!
Thoughts on Health and Health Care 2010.......2001-05-22
This is a very interesting prediction of what health care may hold for us this decade. I enjoyed reading forecasts of what the population will be like and their lifestyles, as well as buying habits. Health careers that will be booming were discussed as well as what medical advances will flourish. I found it interesting that this publication does not really predict a nursing shortage as everyone else is predicting. The discussion of insurance plan growth and changes was less interesting to this reader but necessary.

Customer Reviews:
Over priced book.......2007-09-18
The author only back tested one idea with two variations, and for this reason it deserves two stars. In the book, Pivot Point Analysis, Fibonacci methods and Elliott Wave Theory are all nonsense and that is why I believe the author did not back test the aforementioned. I believe there is more reliable methods for trading such as: pattern recognition; intermarket analysis; and to a certain extent few indicators for timing only.
Armed and Ready to Conquer!.......2007-09-15
Bought it...read it...enjoyed it. I have read numerous books in the last 3 years on topics such as stocks, options, trading systems and most recently currency trading, which is my prime area of interest. Many were written by authors who talk the talk. John Person talks the talk AND walks the walk. Translated: he writes about systems, triggers, indicators and trading philosophies that HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL for him, and he has the experience to back it up. Will they be successful for the reader? That depends on many variables, not the least of which is how well one learns and implements the material. You know what they say, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. While the author could have used a good proof reader and larger more visible charts, the material is relevant, insightful and interesting. And heck, you even get a CD with a few lessons on it to make things a little clearer. There are many ways to trade the markets. This book provides insight as to how one SUCCESSFUL trader has done it. You can criticize many things in life but one thing has always been true: you can't knock success. Thanks John, for sharing with us the weapons you carry into battle with the forex market. I, for one, am better armed because of it.
Be aware.......2007-09-10
in this book you have lots of fillings. like that : because any idea will work great if you have a trending market. so I do not like the charts that shows a good looking results while it does not work in the real live trading. it has three poor systems with no commision or slippage (the profit target for the winners is 40 pips while the neglegted commision is 30), sure it will look good on the backtested results but unfortunatly it is not realistic, it is deciving."traditional chart Patterns" is usless pages and candlestick patterns, pivot point calculation are free on the internet, introduction to the Curruncy market......I could not find one single thing or idea to say somthing positive about this book So
Be aware of any guy with ear to ear smile on his book cover. and do not beleive the five stars unless the reason is clear. review it first then make up your mind
Good Work!.......2007-07-13
Excellent book. Reveals 3 BACKTESTED profitable forex trading systems, one of them averages 130 pips a month. Take note all the forex authors out there, show us the backtest results of your forex system or shut the hell up!!!
Written By A Real Trader.......2007-06-07
I've known John Person for several years now and I can tell you that he is a true trader who makes his living in the markets. There are two types of authors who write trading books - those that write about trading but don't actually trade everyday and those who trade every day and know what they are talking about and write books simply because they love talking about trading and enjoy helping other traders find success. John is definitely a true trader first - something you can tell immediately in the first few pages.
Forex Conquered offers specific trading strategies that you can use immediately which is what sets this book apart from all the others. If you've been disappointed by other books that talk in generalities, buy this one. John gives step-by-step instructions so that you can learn how to trade yourself instead of relying on others for "tips" or strategies you don't understand. I highly recommend it.

Excellent book.......2007-09-13
This book was new and in excellent conditions. I really buy another book from Amazon. Also the shipping was very fast.
Not just fluff.......2007-07-23
Get into the ins and outs of PV installation. This book is actually too complicated for the casual observer since there are a lot of variables to designing a workable cost efficient (well, hopefully not costing more than need be) PV system. For instance, a materials list for a 12 volt DC battery and charge controller system consist of about 80 lines. Each with their own numbers!
Photovoltaics Design and Installation Manual.......2007-07-07
This is a low-cost and easy to read and understand book for designing and installing PV systems. I highly recommend it for interested students, engineers and contractors.
Renuable Energy Education for a Sustainable Future.......2007-05-16
Great book, easy to understand for everyone. We all need to work toward this kind of lifestyle. Including supporting our communities, making them more levable, and buying local.
So So Solar.......2007-05-13
Not a bad book, but it gives itself way too much credit by billing itself as a "Design and Installation Manual". This 315 page book could be condensed into a 50 page useful book entitled "A Basic Introduction to Considerations in Photovoltaic Design and Installation". It's choppy to read, and it has a lot of filler, generalities, and truisms. Expect a lot of this: "The major aspects of installing the photovoltaic array are choosing the most applicable mounting systems and making a proper installation". Some of the electrical theory is questionable. Still, it's the best book I've found, which means there is a great opportunity for a knowledgable PV systems integrator who can write well and put together a comprehensive, well-written text on the subject.

Customer Reviews:
The best book I've read about trading system design and development.......2007-07-13
The book is well written and easy to read. I have learned a great deal from it. So far, it is the best book I've read about trading system design and development. I recommend it to anybody who is serious about trading systems.
A good introduction to trading system development.......2007-02-04
Let me state my biases up front. I've always been rather suspicious of so-called "mechanical" trading strategies, although I'm a strong supporter of a technical approach to the market.
Technical analysis, for me, has always been about individual market participants, as a group, are likely to respond to price action to further their interest for profits, or to conserve capital. Market players are not mindless robots who are as predictable as coin flips, but people pursuing goals, and who learn from history. How the market reacts to news and fundamental info is extremely important from this point of view.
While there are things that can be learned from looking at price action, any algorithm that can extract profits from markets is likely to be short lived. With the advent of cheap, powerful computers, it is all too easy to "test" a system on historical data, only to have it fail in real time. Proper system testing is difficult to do.
Even if testing is done properly, it is likely to have been found by a significant number of smart, well-capitalized people long before you or I ever came onto the scene, making historical test results misleading, possibly unprofitable.
The fact is, markets change, and the context of price action in the past may be totally different to the current market environment. How do market systems account for market change, while still producing valid results?
This book allayed some of my fears. Since system testing IS hard to do, it is unlikely that a significant percentage of people will discover the signals of a profitable system, making the method unprofitable.
Even a skeptic such as myself will admit that proper historical testing can, at the very least, encourage thought about future market conditions, and prepare for various scenarios.
Most important (to me), system testing provides a reasonable method for adapting to changing markets. As new data comes in, the model can, and should, change.
This book teaches you how to do proper system testing, so you can have confidence in your results.
I deduct 1 star from the emphasis on the use of a frequentist statistical methodology. It is becoming clear in economics that talk of "long run frequencies" makes little sense for historical events that occur in a particular place, or a particular time, and are not likely to be repeated.
The use of Bayesian methods based on a subjective interpretation of probability (ie. degrees of belief), are growing in usage, and can provide more appropriate answers to certain questions that the "frequentist" methods do not.
For experienced technicians, I can recommend it.
Classic book for trading systems.......2006-11-08
Very well written (simple English) that help to organize thoughts of trading. and it help to improve your level of thinking about trading in general. little book, but very useful.
Boring.......2006-05-01
I agree in part with the reviewer that has given 1 star to this book. I have not finished this book yet, and in fact I bought this book because of the numerous 5 stars reviews.
Many definitions appear only after they are mentioned in the text, so that perhaps you need to read and reread for this book to be useful.
Worst Book I've Ever Read On The Topic.......2005-04-19
I have never written a comment about a book, but hopefully other people will at least be warned. This is the one of the worst books I've ever read. I have read several Wiley books; most of them are poorly written and lacking substance. This one is unbelievably bad.
This book deserves a negative five stars. (Who wrote those other reviews?)
If you have never read a book on trading systems, then this book is may tell you something. Otherwise, save your money. There's nothing here.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Great Introduction: Practical Common Sense, Little Vodoo, No Magic.......2006-12-07
Kamich's book is not for the expert technical analyst or a professional day trader. It is appropriately respectful of quantitative and fundemental analysis, limits its discussion to the most proven and reliable indicators, and offers some clever speculation about the underlying dynamics of market structure and market participants that explains why technical analysis may be useful. It also provides a little history of technical analysis back to Dow.
The most provocative parts for me were the sections on gap analysis, volume confirmation, and his excellent chapter on reversals.
For someone who either does not know anything about technical analysis or else thinks of it as the astrology of modern finance (or the Rorschach Ink Blots), Kamich's book is a solid and sensible introduction that is as convincing as it is useful.
Note that this is not a catelog of all the major technical indicators or trends in technical analysis. For that book, buy "Murphy's Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets" also from the NY Institute of Finance.
Whether you believe in technical analysis or not, know that the people you are trading against do use these techniques and either way you should know what other participants are seeing in terms of signals and opportunities. This book is an exceptional start.
Not bad, but not great.......2006-07-04
Definately provides a good review of many TA approaches and I really like how Kamich inputs his personal commentary on the market psychology represented by the charts. The big weakness of this book is the lame charts. Considering this is a TA book, which is all about charts, one would think there would be good examples... There are not! I found myself drawing many of the charts he described. In my oppinion, he should have provided them.
A very good balance.......2005-12-22
Kamich provides a very nicely balanced approach, providing a thorough presentation without becoming an encyclopedia of every obscure technical tool available. The book was written long enough after the 2000 peak that the charts provide both bull and bear examples.
Excellent book, but not perfect.......2003-09-30
This is an excellent book for beginners and intermediate traders. It explains TA in a deep but simple way. The real value of this book (for me) is that it explains what is happening, who is buying and who is selling during chart patterns. It also explains how to trade each pattern.
After reading this book i feel much more calm and confident about what is actually happening on the markets. I can now have my own ideas of market movements, despite news, newsletters and other bloated sources of information. This book will serve as a reference for years to come.
The section on chart patterns is deep and complete. It contains all needed informations, but keeping a focus on price action.
The section on indicators covers (well) the most common ones. I would have liked more indicators.
A TA good book but not amazing.......2003-07-02
This is a solid book but it is not a 5 star book. Probably closer to 3 1/2 to 4 stars. Lots of stuff about pennants, flags, support lines, etc. The author does walk you through using the indicators which is very helpful. A lot of TA books describe and indicators and fail to tell you what to do with it. The sections on RSI and stochastics are also good.
I have been using some of the ideas with powerinvestor.com's software and been very pleased. Their web site uses simple to use sector models that have returned 30% a year since 1996.

Great book - very intense.......2007-08-27
I've been looking for a book like this for a while. I first came across Bill Williams through the Metastock indicators and the Expert System. After loading an expert called "PS Fractal Trading System 2" I was amazed at the signals.
Having read through the book - I have the following quibble. There is a huge difference in the parameters of the alligator in what comes with Metastock (v9 and v10) and what the book gives. The book says the green line is 13 bar smoothed average offset 8 bars into future. Likewise the red is 8 bar offset 5, and the green is 5 bar offset 3. However this does not correspond to the Metastock indicator he provides. For the curious, the Metastock ones referred to in page 206 of book have the following values: Green: 9 period EMA of Median offset 3. Red: 15 period offset 5, and Blue 25 period offset 8
It is the right book at the right time.......2007-07-06
This book has methods to get buy signals before the lows and sell signals before the highs. This will help one sell into strength and buy into weakness. It has helped me get my positions off. I have recommended this book to all of my trading friends. It will take careful study to fully understand it. This book is original, all mechanical and all objective. The three wise men make up very powerful trading tools.
Good book.......2007-01-09
Another great book from Bill Williams!
Interesting for trend trading and for good living.
Bill Williams is the REAL DEAL.......2006-12-18
I am a BIG believer in Bill Williams and his body of work.
I have personally met with Bill, taken his home study course and even attended a private tutorial. Bill is the real deal. He is a *highly* profitable trader and Bill trades EXACTLY like he describes in his books (simplified over time, so Trading Chaos, 2nd Ed. is the LATEST and most refined method).
If you just want to trade with no other background information, Buy Trading Chaos, 2nd Edition (not this book) and start with chapter seven. When you get to the end of the book, you'll say, "That's it?!?! Than can't be it!" That's what I said. I then went on to take his home study course (13 weeks) and then went to a private tutorial. 95% of the methodology is IN THE BOOK! The more advanced stuff is for those who are scaling into positions and want more aggressive money management techniques.
Who am I to say this works? I started trading Bill's techniques from scratch. In LESS than 6 months I was up 95% in a medium sized account. I found some like-minded investors and we started our own Hedge Fund (more specifically, a commodity pool). I called Bill personally and he spoke with me at length about how I should flow into and out of my positions, etc. He went far above and beyond the call of duty. I cannot speak to how well my Pool is doing (not legal to disclose - considered solicitation of investors), so I cannot give figures of returns for the Pool.
Buy Trading Chaos 2nd Edition and then buy "New Trading Dim mentions" (his second book) and read chapters 9 - 11. Those chapters will give you more ideas of the SCOPE of just what is possible when you simplify your trading and align it with natural market tendencies (chaos principles).
Good luck and Good Trading!
-- Q
The truth about how to become a successful trader.......2006-09-01
I purchased this book because I was trading with a method that used the awesome oscillator. I figured I should know something about the person who created it. I got much more than that. The book helped me to quit focusing on trading techniques and to start looking at my own mental state for trading. Turning inward has allowed me build better confidence in myself and my method. That in turn allows me to trade with a mindset which successful traders have. The fact that the book also presents a very viable trading method is just an added bonus. This book and "Trading In The Zone" by Mark Douglas transformed my trading career.

Great Book.......2007-07-19
There are few financial books that fill the gap between
the raw theory and the practical implementation, this
is one of the best beside Clewlow & Strickland's "Implementing
Derivatives Models".
horrible code.......2007-07-04
I wasted too much time with the horrible code the book, it is a shame I hadn't read the other reviews before that.
most of the code in the book does not compile.
this book does not pay off.......2007-06-09
This book has to much code (also for developers!), almost nothing of a high level description of the code (UML? some picture? APIs?), and a quite short mathematical formulation and explanation. The combination is a book that tals about everything but does not help to undersatnd nothing.
I do not know if the problem comes from the many pages (that will imply a bigger price) or to the strategy. I would prefer a better understanding of the patterns involved in the the development...
Not received the product.......2007-03-12
I have not received the product yet. How am I to write a review!
Valuable Book with Code that Works and Compiles.......2006-07-17
The code works and compiles fine with Visual Studio 6.0. The reader who said he had problems with Visual Studio 2005 obviously didn't read the requirements for using the code. The book provides lots of useful code for implementing complex models such as the HJM and Libor Market Models.

This book is written in the straight-forward, easy to read style Liz uses in her weekly columns for MSN Money. It gives a lot of basic information as well as "how to's." I definitely recommend this book for those who want to improve their score by either fixing it or protecting it.
Wonderful Book.......2007-05-21
When I bought this book, I was very skeptical. It was actually a very smooth, easy read and was very insightful. I reccommend this to anyone who is looking to start fresh with their credit.
Informative, but redundant.......2007-05-12
This Book will give you all the information you need to get the best credit score you can, and if you will follow the book's advice, most likely it will work.
However, the information given in the book could be found on any credit monitoring web-site for free with more accuracy to your situation.
It's nice to have the book at home, but not necessary. Take it only if you refuse to read the advice you get at the different credit report websites
Should be required reading before filling out your first application..........2007-02-12
It's become pretty common lately to hear news stories about your "credit score." But it's one of those things that is not well-understood, nor are the factors that feed into it. This book cuts through all the confusion with clear explanations and great advice... Your Credit Score: How to Fix, Improve, and Protect the 3-Digit Number that Shapes Your Financial Future (2nd Edition) by Liz Pulliam Weston. A little knowledge can save you a ton of money and grief...
Contents: Why Your Credit Score Matters; How Credit Scoring Works; VantageScore - A Revolution or Just More of the Same?; Improving Your Score - The Right Way; Credit Scoring Myths; Coping with a Credit Crisis; Rebuilding Your Score After a Credit Disaster; Identity Theft and Your Credit; Emergency! Fixing Your Credit Score Fast; Insurance and Your Credit Score; Keeping Your Score Healthy; Index
Like it or not, credit bureaus have a large influence on what you pay for loans (and increasingly, insurance). Weston starts by explaining how the whole credit rating concept evolved, as well as the significant players in the game. She also explains how that credit score is used by banks and lenders to predict the likelihood of getting paid back. The lower your score, the higher the probability of payment issues, and the higher the interest rate will be. The book becomes *really* valuable when you start understanding the many myths behind credit scoring. For instance, conventional wisdom says it's a good thing to close out credit card accounts you're not using any longer, thereby improving your credit score. In reality, that action will usually hurt your score instead. Or another example... It's a good idea to have your credit company lower your limit to improve your score. Wrong! Part of the calculation of credit scoring is the ratio of used to available credit amounts. If you lower your credit limit, that ratio goes up (provided you didn't pay down your balance), and your score goes down. It's practical information such as this that makes the book so valuable and worthwhile. Oh, and you wonder why your insurance rates are higher than your neighbors, all things appearing equal? More and more insurance companies are following the controversial practice of charging higher premiums to people with lower scores. Yet another reason to be on guard.
Ideally, you don't run up credit charges and you pay cash for everything. Practically, society is geared towards being able to categorize people based on their credit history. You can use this book to position yourself well for credit expectations without having to go against your principles if you don't want to become caught up in the credit craze. This book should be required reading before getting your first credit card or loan...
A bit weak.......2007-01-18
While I do think that Ms. Pulliam Weston knows her stuff, I don't think she covered the things I need to know in enough depth, and some of my most burning questinos were not addressed at all.
She speaks mainly to people who have somewhat stable finances and are capable of following her suggestions. What do you do if you need to REALLY repair a VERY bad score? The scores she considers to be "bad" are in the mid 500s or above. She assumes that you probably want to tweak your credit a little and have a higher credit rating already, for the most part. She only briefly addresses the concerns of those of us who really have credit problems.
I'm giving this book a 3 for those reasons.
