Customer Reviews:
Lack of communication and shipped exactly on due date.......2007-10-05
The book came in good conditions as expected, but although I was writing the seller to ask whether the book was sent, I NEVER got a reply...I received the book by the due date, meaning that I paid for a faster shipping thinking that I would get my book faster, and yet it took as long as ground shipping.
i love this book.......2007-03-17
Easy to read, interesting, good tables and charts, to the point, reader friendly.
good buy.......2007-01-12
Very helpful with great pictures. This book simplifies the material even for those that have never taken a course in histology. Great investment since many universities as well as medical and dental schools use this book.
For a medical student, not a bad book........2006-05-19
One's opinion on this book depends your purpose. This is not a comprehensive histology text, nor is it an atlas of histology. Graduate students in anatomy or histology will be disappointed.
BUT, for a medical student this book used in conjunction with an atlas is pretty good. The book reads well, has "ok" pictures, and sufficient detail for medical school histology courses. I found this book used with the DiFore's histology atlas to be sufficient. I preferred this over Wheater's book, but others in my class did use the Wheater book.
Overall, I would recommend this book to be used along with a histology atlas such as DiFore, for medical school histology.
Histology is barely present on USMLE, so don't waste your time buying this book for board review unless you just can't remember anything from histology.
The Best BASIC Histology book.......2006-05-08
For sure this is the best BASIC Histology book ever...if you do want some deep treatment about the topic, go search another book...but for what it intends to discuss (the basic concepts of human body tissues science), the book is explendid. Please, DO NOT compare this book with a non basic book.

Customer Reviews:
Misnomer.......2007-06-28
Excellent graphically appealing pictures. Clinical information provided in discussion format. Not an educational foundational book. Lacks (in depth thorough) explanations and definitions. Not for the basic reader. Uses concise technical language which makes it difficult to read.
Book Description
Gives medical students 500 questions, answers, and explanations to prepare for the histology and cell biology sections of the USMLE Step 1. The new edition includes many new questions in the two-step clinical format to simulate the USMLE Step 1.

Good Book - Good prep for Step 1.......2006-03-29
This pre-test book was the only text I studied for cell biology in step one. It helped me out a lot and I did very well on that section of the exam. I recommend this book.
anatomy pretest.......2005-09-24
I wish I had realized that this was the old edition. The book has great information and was in great condition. It came in a timely fashion.

Book Description
This unique atlas includes over 475 full color photomicrographs while providing students with a readily accessible source of morphologic information for use in the identification of tissues and organs. Each photomicrograph is accompanied by explanatory captions that guide students to the key morphologic features that identify the function of the structures. The self-assessment section at the end of the book serves as a review tool for those structures that students traditionally have difficulty in identifying.

Helpful study tool.......2006-03-09
My professor had recommended this text, though did not require it for her histo class. I found it extremely helpful in studying for lab exams outside of class, but it wasn't very helpful in learning about cell types that we hadn't discussed in lecture first. An overall helpful study tool.
Great Atlas.......2004-05-16
I'm a med student and found this atlas to be a great source for studying for the my class exams. The pictures are great and it makes the facts easier to learn. Squamous cell epithelium never looked so good. I also used the following:
Histology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
This study guide helped me with test preparation because it showed me what to focus on and the type of questions that were asked on my tests. I highly recommend both books.
This is an excellent atlas........2004-04-08
I found the color atlas to be extremely helpful. The images are very clear and structures are labeled. It's a useful guide for medical students new to histology.
It is a the name says just an atlas.......2001-12-27
You need to know from other sources to understand the pictures.
Quality of the paper and pictures are good but unfortunately there is hardly any explanation what they are, what the functions are. It is not just because they run out of space, one side of the page is generally empty. I guess it is the concept that needs to be changed. Yes pictures are worth tousands of words but it would be much nices with some talk.Book is divided into systems. Book is also missing a short introduction that could have been very helpful.
Best Atlas Available.......2000-08-05
I've done a lot of searching into histo atlases. This one has the best photographs of all I saw. They are untouched by artwork like other atlases. They are the real thing, which I think is important for future practice with the microscope. There are two problems with this atlas. First, although the photographs are organized quite logically, there is no boldface title above each one. It is annoying when you are browsing the book. I remedied this by writing in my own titles, but it would be SO much nicer. The second thing is there is no histological information contained with the photos. There are only small description boxes next to each. Unfortunately to my knowledge there is no such thing as a histology atlas that has high-yield histo information included. I think if the company who made this atlas adds high-yield info the resulting book would be used by every medical student in the country. What's ironic is there is so much white space in this atlas. It's as if the publisher intended to add in info boxes, but never got around to it. All we need are small bites of info like exists in the High-Yield series with the beautiful photos in this atlas.
If you are the publishers of this book, heed my advice and you'll make a fortune. Medical students like to have everything wrapped up in neat little packages instead of cross-references several sources. It makes studying so much easier.

Life saver!.......2000-03-26
When you are knee deep in slides and your eyes are too tired to look through your microscope, Wheater's Atlas will be your lifeboat. Use it and learn all you need to know. I can't say enough good things about this book. Viva Wheater!

Customer Reviews:
What a book!!!.......2001-10-10
An amazing book with great colorful pictures. It begins from how to prepare histologic sections to the description of the most important tissues, organs and systems of eight species (dog, cat, horse, cow, sheep, goat, pig, and chicken). Before the pictures, the book gives you a very useful and brief chapter introduction. It also has a detailed glossary containing nearly 750 words. A necesary book for a veterinary student. El mejor libro de histologia veterinaria que he visto!
an atlas with great pictures and concise text.......2000-10-07
This atlas provides wonderful full color pictures of cells and tissues from several animal groups. The pictures are logically grouped by tissue type with examples from different species being shown together. Many of the sections have brief, but useful introductions. All the pictures are well labeled and have a brief discription of important characteristics of the specific cells or tissue types presented.
It likely to be useful to individuals working in veterinary science, animal science or animal research.
Product Description
The Basic Guide is an elementary introduction to the structure and the function of the nervous system using the sheep brain as dissection material. This 8.5 by 11 inch, 24 page, paperback manual has a metal twin loop binding to lay flat. The various views include dorsal, ventral, sagittal, cross sections, and special dissection. Explanatory text accompanies each of the 11 photographs.
Customer Reviews:
Serves its purpose :).......2002-12-13
While giving a glowing review of a "how to dissect a sheep brain" book is strange, I still must give this book high marks because it meets the criteria for a good neurodissection guide. First, it's inexpensive - good for something that you might not want to put in your bookshelf after using it. Second, it's not hardcover and is wide. Okay, you're wondering what I am getting at... When you want a book to stay open so that you can look at it while holding a scalpel in one hand and have your other hand covered with...fluids... you don't want a book that flips itself shut when you aren't holding it. Also, it's easy to photocopy, given that it is in black and white and 8.5x11. Third, it has good content and doesn't try to overdo it. Dissecting a sheep brain is a gateway dissection - thus a book doesn't need to be an expensive tome on neurobiology. These authors also have a "photographic series" guide that helps with the dissection an dincludes bonus pages on other cranial structures, e.g., eyes.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent, Lesion Oriented, very clear and understandible.......2000-03-24
I have used the original syllabus by Dr. Young many years ago. This text derives from the course syllabus at Saint Louis University Medical school. This book will provide you with deep and lasting understanding of clinical neuroanatomy. Excellent source for Neuroanatomy courses and the USMLE.
Book Description
This atlas and text of histopathology provides a practical collection of color photomicrographs of diseased human tissue to supplement standard pathology texts. An ideal companion to Wheater's Functional Histology, this new edition gives more emphasis to the scientific basis of disease and clinicopathological correlations.
Customer Reviews:
life saver.......2004-04-22
This book is what saved my life in the pathology, microbiology and immunology course at my med school. The book put all the histopathology which was very dense and made unnecessarily complicated by the lecturers and the Robbins PBOD book in a very logical way. It has great micrographs with thorough text accompanying them and is a must have.
An excellent primer of pathology.......2003-07-23
If you agree that seeing is believing, then this book is for you. Microscopic images with accompanying texts illustrate important concepts and salient features of common diseases. The language is clear and facts are presented concisely. I particularly loved the part on general pathology : it contains one of the most beautifully written summaries of the recurring themes in pathology...i.e. cell injury, necrosis, adative response, neoplasia, inflammation, thrombosis etc. Read, re-read and re-read the first few chapters of this book, so that those concepts get stuck in your brain. Once that's mastered, you'll have little difficulty facing systems pathology.
Unfortuantely, no book is perfect... this one has no gross/macro pictures, and the texts while perfectly summarised, are not enough to get you thru the boards or other path exams. If you're looking for uncommon or esoteric stuff, search elsewhere.
Nevertheless, I would call this the perfect primer of pathology, and an essential companion to the bigger textbooks.
Buy it if you really want to UNDERSTAND and APPRECIATE pathology.
