Made an A in A&P.......2007-08-13
I think my instructor had a lot to do with it, as well as some changes in study habits since I went to college the first time (2.68). But this book definitely helped. I had a 96 average in class. It's not an easy read, nor is something to try to do without some class notes, but I thought it was clear and informative.
Human Anatomy.......2007-07-25
This book was purchased for a high-school course.
Class hasn't started yet so can't rate the book
properly. I presume that it is good because the
school chose it.
Essentials of Human Anatomy & Physiology 8th edition.......2007-01-21
This book was necessary for my class. Its good, except I can't get the disk to work.
good condition-- a bit long for delivery.......2006-11-04
the delivery was a bit slow but the book was in perfect condition.
Nice and Well Organized Book. .......2005-08-10
I had this book for about two semesters, in college by the way. The first semester I dropped it and finally the second semester I got a B. Interesting hm? Anyhow, the book contains a large amount of information including very nice diagrams and photographs and has vastly improved in my opinion from the early first few editions. What makes this book extremely informative is the fact that it is pretty well organized and set up including indexing and clear contents listing. 16 chapters starting slowly from the basics of the human body, its relations to chemistry, cells and tissues, and finally going more in depth by digging deep into the organ systems and the human anatomy.
The diagrams are clearly listed, but of course I've seen a few errors. The information is just so much. Unless you are crazy about this, I doubt you'll remember much without reviewing it over and over continuously on a weekly if not daily bases. Almost each part in the diagram is listed out on the same page or a few pages back and forth to give the reader a more precise knowledge if the reader intends to know more of what the diagram/photo represents part for part.
The information is simply mind blowing and pretty exhausting to remember. Most readers of this and other anatomy/medical/etc related books would sooner or later ask themselves "who the heck would make up all these silly names and expect us to memorize it?!" The information is a little too compact for me and this is the only problem I have with this book, the simple fact that its a lot to comprehend and doesn't seem very intended in my Physiology and Anatomy basics class. Like always, mix other text books with this one if you intend to get everything out of this subject. No one book is perfect. Otherwise, its a decent book overall.

Essentials of A & P.......2003-08-30
From beginning to end, descriptive text and detailed illustration takes the reader on a magic carpet ride through the human body. Soaring over every anatomical location and pointing out all of their physiological functions, each page is overflowing with mesmerizing information. A student armed with the endless knowledge within these pages is sure to prosper in any course related to this subject.
Good bargin Book on A & P.......2002-09-10
This is a great book for anyone that needs a small (less than 700 pages) book to look up basic concepts. I bought a used copy as a low cost way to start an A&P library. Medical students may not want to use this book unless they are in their very first year and know nothing about anatomy and physiology; but anyone in the allied health field will want to keep this one handy. Anyone who is willing to immerse himself in this book will definitely acquire a good working knowledge of A & P. I found numerous chapters that were great starting points to motivate deeper study. For instance, the Chapter on Muscles is very useful. It provide views of each major muscle, along with a diagram that lists what type of motion the muscle creates, and it's origin & insertion points. Many chapters have clinical examples as well as special sections that deal with aging and it's effects on the body's systems. If you are on a tight budget, get a used copy and you won't be disappointed.
Why I like this book........2002-02-25
My daughter who is taking a course in nursing likes this book.
I find this book neat and the illustrations done by Dr William
Ober clear and easy to the eyes. If you are not anybody who is
involved in the health or medical studies, and wish to know
more about the human body (anatomy and physiology), then I highly
recommend this concise "essentials" book. Take a look at page
132, Figure 6-6, you actually get to see the whole of human
skeletal system which appears as photograph, not a drawing. I
can use this page to show my children what the human skeleton
looks like and name the parts, which are clearly labelled. The
reason I have given 4 stars because I cannot say this book is
100% perfect. The authors will later improve it in their future
editions, still this is a good buy ...you won't regret.
This Book is A Hard Book to find anything.......2000-04-14
This book is way to complicated. It is not very helpful to tryto find information in an easy simple manner. I would try to findanother book for anatomy and physiology!
Best educational physiology book!.......1997-03-26
I am a medicalstudent from Sweden. When I was about to begin
studying anathomy and physiology the trouble was to find a
book that gave the most knowledge in an easy, understandable way. After searching through all the books I found this one,
Essentials of anathomy and physiology, the best buy all over.
Book Description
This edition is up-to-date and reflects the latest information and thinking in the field.
Focus on Homeostasis boxes clarify ways in which each system contributes to the homeostasis of each of the other body systems.
Focus on Wellness Essays throughout help readers apply the concepts to good health and understand how life-style factors affect the structure and function of the body.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent text.......2006-03-25
This book is fantastic. I learned a lot from it and the organization of the material was great. It even offers "Checkpoints" for focus on what you just read, and the answers for the "Critical Thinking" questions and "Self-quizzes" are in the back of the book. These questions are so helpful...my instructor actually used several like them on our exams. My only gripe with this text is that a few of the answers to the Self-Quizzes are incorrect. But if you've done your work, you'll be able to tell the answer doesn't jive. Hopefully in the next edition they'll do more meticulous editing on that. But they give you the usual A&P stuff, and then apply it to real-life diagnoses & situations.
great for massage therapy students.......2005-10-19
Required material for some massage students, this book is a great deal, saving nearly 40-50% off what you'd pay at the student book store or anywhere else for that matter. Has excellent diagrams and explanations to help through a/p.
Anatomy Review.......2005-10-16
This text book is very informative and easy to understand. We bought this and the Intro to the Human Body Study Guide. It comes with an interactive CD which enhances the curriculum.

Hole's Essentials.......2007-01-05
This book came well packaged and like new! I'm going to keep this one.
Essential College Text.......2006-07-25
I studied this book for my college anatomy and physiology class. Of course, you need this book to study--without it I would have been lost. There is so much information in this book, makes anatomy and physiology a little easier to learn.
Other recommenations:
I also used Martini's Anatomy and Physiology Textbook as an additonal source. This book filled in the gaps, pictures/digarams were excellent.
Also, Leonardi's, "Anatomy and Phsiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations volumes 1, 2 & 3. The question were comparable to the kind I saw on my college exams...
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Beginner's A&P Text.......2007-08-11
This is the perfect text for those with a need for a beginner's course in Anatomy and Physiology. It's brief, very readable, and filled with great graphics and highlighted tables of important information. Every time I thought of something I remembered or had a question about (such as common ailments, diseases, etc.) as I read the text, it was usually covered in a call-out box. Well done!

Book Description
Despite widespread interest in nutrition and the public's appetite for fresh information from health professionals, health care providers often lack accurate, clinically relevant, and current information on topics of special concern to their patients. In Clinical Nutrition of the Essential Trace Elements and Minerals: The Guide for Health Professionals, John Bogden, PhD, Leslie Klevay, MD, and a host of recognized experts address this major gap in the literature with a comprehensive, up-to-date survey of the biological roles and clinical importance of mineral and trace element nutrients. These authoritative researchers and clinicians review the clinical relevance of trace elements and minerals such as chromium, copper, fluoride, iron, iodine, molybdenum, manganese, selenium, zinc, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus to a wide variety of medical conditions. Among the diseases treated are genetic, endocrine, skeletal, cardiovascular, kidney, gastrointestinal, infectious, surgical, and ophthalmologic disorders. The authors also discuss trace element and mineral nutrition in healthy people, with chapters on pregnancy, lactation, adolescents, and older people. Chapters on preagricultural and modern consumption patterns, epidemiology, and laboratory diagnostic tests are also included. Timely and comprehensive, Clinical Nutrition of the Essential Trace Elements and Minerals: The Guide for Health Professionals offers today's physicians, nutritionists, and dietitians an authoritative resource replete with sound dietary and medical advice suitable for daily use with their clients and patients.

Essential Information.......2006-02-16
This book is a necessary trace element we all should read, and translate to our understanding, to learn how the trace minerals we are told are poisonous actually help us be healthier when we consume them in their proper balance.
Book Description
Designed for the one-semester course, Seeley et al.'s
Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology is written to allow instructors the ability to accomplish one overall goal: to teach the basics of A&P while fostering the skill of problem solving. Through learning how to solve problems and think critically, students learn A&P based on two themes: the relationship between structure and function, and homeostasis.

A book you can learn a lot from!.......2000-08-07
This book is a great learning tool! It "teaches" you about your own body, how it works and why you should care about what you eat, exercise, etc. The book is very well structured, with an objectives list at the beginning of each chapter and reasoning skills questions at the end, that helps you develop study and observation skills. This is a great book that changed the way I see my body, I learned a lot with this book!!

nutritional excellence.......2007-08-28
I have grown weary of Health Shop and pharmacy employees whos expertise is limited to certain areas of medication and their interactions. I take many suppliments and could not get accurate information on interactions, and other detailed information necessary to make good informed choices. Until now. At times like this, I wish I'd gone to med school, or been a journalist, to be able to accurately and succinctly review this excellent book. Suppliments and other medications can be dangerous together, and it is imperative to be informed, so as to only take what's both necessary and healthful. At last a book that covers EVERY aspect of supplimentation, and nutritional therapy. It accurately covers interactions, ACCURATE dosage, and dangers associated. If like me, you are bombarded with information from the bottles of companies desperate to sell you their product, regardless if you really need it or not.. then this book will be a breath of fresh air for you. Nothing is left out, only pertinent information left in. A real treasure for the health conscious.

The Bible of Nutritional Supplement Information!.......2007-01-07
This is an outstanding piece of work that Michael Murray has compiled! Whether you are a beginner or an expert in nutrition, you will find this book very insightful ! In this work he documents a comprehensive list of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, nutrients, and glandular extracts. Mr. Murray also elaborates on the functions and uses of each to provide sound education to the reader. My favorite part of the book is that he includes many different lists of whole food sources to obtain everything listed above. For instance, when he discusses Magnesium, he breaks down what foods have the highest magnesium content and what foods have the lowest. This is an extremely valuable source of nutritional information and I would recommend this book to everyone!
Dr. Matthew J. Loop

Frank Cooper - Australia.......2006-10-03
This is a valuable book for the layperson and professional, for the understanding of the complexities and properties of vitamins and minerals. However this book is now 10 years old and showing signs of age, and would benefit from a significant update, as some of the information is no longer applicable.
The section called "Understanding Fats and Oils" is probably the weakest link in the chain for this book, and the reader would be well guided to ignore this section. This is a shame because the effect of lipids on the human body is profound in terms of health benefits. To replace this section, the reader would be wise to read the publications written by Dr Mary Enig and Canadian Udo Erasmus, who are two of the leading research experts on the subject of fats and oils.
Also in this encyclopedia the section on cholesterol is also inaccurate. Better to read the books written on cholesterol by Swedish Dr Uffe Ravnskov, as well the recent book by Fitness Expert Anthony Colpo on cholesterol.
However as I mentioned before, this is an excellent encyclopedia, and I greatly look forward to a future update from the author to replace my well worn copy. Also a hard cover would be nice and I dont mind paying the extra cost. Whilst paperback is fine for books you read just once, hard cover is better suited to a reference book like this encyclopedia.
If you have one book on nutritional supplements, this should be it. .......2006-09-20
This isn't the latest, but it's the best. If you have one book on nutritional supplements, this should be it. I'd read it before your first, next, or whatever visit to the nutritional supplement store or aisle.
