Incredibly accurate.......2007-10-02
It's like they knew everything about me...had seen every interaction with anyone i knew, just knew my thoughts and the way i was inside and out...it's strong traits and weak traits were dead on...it described me as :over-confident, exhibitionist, and unbalanced, for weaknesses and magnetic, provocative and determined for strong...and as i read more and more into the profile of my birthdate, i realized it all related to me in some small or significant way through out my life...very interesting book...very curious indeed...pick it up and have a look...or you can check it out at the nearest book store if you wanted to...my friends and anyone else i come in contact with...love this book...glad to own one...
Writing on a razor's edge .......2007-09-28
Astrology is a really controversial issue, and I did not believe in anything related with this before read this book in an airport bookstore. Everywhere I read about my sign they tell me wrong stuff and general things. After read Goldschneider book, however, I begin to believe that there is some sense at all in this matter. He made no mistakes about me, and was absolutely precise about my way of thinking. I read friends, parents and relatives descriptions too, and the level of precision was also incredable, without deep errors or misconceptions.
The research he said he made can explain much of what is said. Even if the complete meaning of what can explain astrology is obscure yet, this book has a very accurate text.
I love this Book.......2007-09-28
This book is amazing! it really does seem to capture the essential nature and habits of individuals born on a specific day. Every one who has looked themselves up has been impressed with the accuracy. we use it as a kind of icebreaker or party game. we also find that it is helpful for gaining insight if you are going to introduce someone or speak at a memorial service etc. I plan on buying copies for my children and maybe a new one for myself because we use this one so much it is getting worn out.
Great book.......2007-04-09
I had seen this book in the lobby of a hotel in SF and enjoyed it very much. I was very pleased to be able to find it on Amazaon and even happier to be able to find it in new condition. It is now a conversation piece on our coffee table.
Undescribable!.......2007-03-10
My friend Marie had this book, and let's just say it lead me to my fiancee. I decided to read the descriptions of the relationships, between my mom and I, my brothers, dad, friends, coworkers... and of a new acquaintance. In the bottom of each description it mentions what type of relationship would work best with those signs, either "Coworkers", "Siblings", "Parent/Child", etc. It turns out, that mine and my then new buddy was "Love and Marriage". I freaked out and started mentioning all the things I hated about him and how I could never deal with any of those things. It could never be! He and I were so different. Well, needless to say, a year and a half later, we're engaged and own a home. November of 2008 we will be married.
I can't wait to see what it'll say about our kids!!

The Secret Language of Relationships adopts the format of its bestselling predecessor, The Secret Language of Birthdays, and the compendious collection of combinations that follows proves the book's assertion that "A relationship is a rather mysterious and amazing third entity, one that can come to lead an existence independent of the will or desire of its two partners.... in certain cases a relationship can prove far stronger than either individual, leading us to believe that a certain kind of synergy is at work."
Well-organized, packed with fascinating "personality" information, and replete with snapshots (on every page) of famous couples--whether colleagues, spouses, or lovers--The Secret Language of Relationships is also simple to use. A glance at the two-page chart at the beginning of the book determines your birthday "period." Next, find the period of the person who interests you--friend, parent, child, lover, or mate. The ensuing relationship dynamics are named colorfully and aptly: "Peas in a Pod," "Uncommon Intimacy," "Flexible Structures," "Few Dull Moments," and "Few Antipathies."
Describing 1,176 possibilities, The Secret Language of Relationships sheds light on the classic questions--the hows and whys of chemistry in relationships. Is there a prime ingredient for love at first sight, a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers of it all? An entertaining exploration of the very thing we cannot do without--each other--this wonderful volume explains why we feel the way we do about the people in our lives, and how--if necessary--to make it better.
Book Description
The Secret Language of Relationships shows how astrology can craft a relationship profile between any two individuals born during any two weeks of the year. The result is an indispensable guide to getting the most out of every relationship.

Relationships Book.......2007-09-21
Been eyeing this book for a LONG time and I finally got it. No regrets. Brilliant info and creepy that it's sooo right on.
Relationships.......2007-08-30
The book is very informative. Very detailed and easy to follow. It is well laid out and easy to read.
Unique, Fascinating, and Useful.......2007-07-21
I've been "religiously" using this book as a reference ever since I stumbled upon it almost two years ago. Family, co-workers, women who I find attractive, friends, even enemies (if you think you have none, you may be kidding yourself LOL). I've looked them all up. Results? Spooky! Astonishing! Amazing!
I'm not sure why certain people complain. Sure the book is general. A more specific study would be too heavy to hold, and would take more time than the octogenarian author has left! Nothing new? Ha! You want something new? Read Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss! Then there's the comment that the included relationship studies are negative. That's not true. Each relationship study contains a vignette or two as well examples of both positive and negative features and potentials. Perhaps the nay-sayers tend to focus upon the negative. On the other hand... negative relationships tend to be the easiest to understand and write about. Those that are positive, and sublime tend to be unique; and they may be succinctly descried only by inspired poetry, if at all. It's similar to the way that it's easy to smear paint around into an interestingly repulsive Oobleck-like image, but much more difficult to create a beautiful masterpiece.
I did notice that while some of the relationship studies are totally spot-on and amazingly so, others seem rather bland or dry, which I attribute to the fact that they don't touch on things that appeal to me or that I understand. If I was a more perfectly-rounded human being, I suspect that I would empathize with those as well.
This is a great book that you may use to create beautiful relationships by using the knowledge it brings you. Pick up a copy today! (Buy a used copy, here at Amazon, if you're a tightwad like me!) Greets to Ms. Julie, who I hope will find this book as useful as I have.
One of the Best Astrology Books on the Market.......2007-06-14
I've studied astrology for over 15 years, and this book is definitely one of the best. Sun-sign astrology is the first step to understanding astrology, and this book is a must-have for anyone interested in exploring it more in-depth. Highly recommended.
Hit or miss..........2007-04-04
Ehhh... I'm just not real impressed with this one. First of all - splitting the larger sun sign categories into subgroups is kinda nice, but also kinda vague. It's essentially a re-working of the standard sun sign stereotypes, and if you're interested in astrology at all, you know them already. Don't get me wrong - it's not *bad.* There's no wrong information, it's passably accurate (for astrology.) I can see how it would be very helpful for those on cusps, and even for the rest of us, it's occasionally got some new info (this book, for instance, is the first one to accurately point out some quieter aspects of my personality that go against the Aries norm.) It's just not enough to get excited over, and most people will get the same level of accuracy or better by just going whole hog and getting a star chart done.
Secondly, and more irritatingly, the actual relationship pairings were astonishingly scattershot. I think it would have been easier to deal with if they'd ALL just been laughably wrong, but no - after slogging through, say, 4 or 5 descriptions that could have been describing total strangers (because they certainly weren't describing me and my people), I'd hit upon something like "Confidential Projects," which was just a spot-on explanation of the vibe between me & my brother. What do you do with a book like that? (Also? As has been noted by other reviewers, the book really is amazingly negative about almost every relationship pairing. If I were to take it seriously, I'd be huddled in the corner now, wide-eyed, whimpering "nobody loves me and I have no real friends!" Sheesh.)
It leads me to one of two conclusions: 1) it really is scattershot - they're just throwing it at a wall and seeing what sticks; or, 2) they're actually on to something, but haven't worked out all the kinks yet. Which wouldn't be too bad, except that it's being published as a finished product, you know?
Final recommendation: pass. If you're reading for entertainment, there are more entertaining astrology books out there; if you're a serious student, there are more thorough and accurate books. If you've got money to burn and don't mind weeding through the stuff that's superfluous and the stuff that's just inaccurate to find the few true additions to this field that this book makes, it might make a decent addition to round out a library. Just please don't be fooled into thinking this is the be-all and end-all of relationship astrology!

Steve Hassan is a master.......2007-08-18
A master of love and compassion. A healer in every sense of the word. A gifted author who's outpouring of information gleaned through years of education, research, personal experience, and couseling ~ renews and restores lives shattered through 'cult-member' experiences. It seems he prides & reveres the personal freedom of each person as much as his own ~ and bends over backward to to educate and provide avenues for healing. Read this, read Combatting Cult Mind Control. To my way of thinking a hero in every sense of the word. There is help out there to get people out of cults and to help people in the healing of putting life "back together" again in hope and ultimately joy. Highly recommend!
Finally, a humane approach..........2006-03-22
Steve Hassan knows whereof he speaks, and this book will help anyone looking to rescue a loved one or friend from the grips of the mind control tactics that characterize sects of all kinds. The most important aspect of Hassan's program is respect: respect for what may have sent a person into the clutches of a sect to begin with, and respect for the individual lost in the double-talk miasma of sect manipulation. This is a book of hope and love; every single member of a family can learn and grow from it, and its message tells us never to give up.
Read it through to the end and make sure you understand all aspects of the intervention described in its pages. Hassan will arm you with the tools needed to act wisely, humanely, fairly. Your friend or loved one deserves it. So do you.
This is my favorite book to recommend to people who want to learn about cults.......2006-01-26
This book presents a practical approach to planning an intervention when you have a loved one in a cult. Mr. Hassan's style is compassionate, never condescending and healing for anyone who was ever in a cult. I appreciated what he shared about his own experiences in and leaving a cult. I found it encouraging that he now has embraced the religion he grew up in, Judiasm, as for so many of us who leave cults it becomes impossible to not view anything spiritual with suspicion.
I cannot say enough about what a great book this is. It doesn't matter which cult you are dealing with, he does an excellent job of helping the reader see its really all the same phenomenon. This book really is a must read.
Important information .......2005-05-26
Mr. Hassan shares extremely important information in his scholarly work. Another more visceral story on how to escape a cult was written by a young woman who escaped from the Kool-aid cult, aka The Jonestown Compound. SEDUCTIVE POISON is a well written, thoroughly gripping first hand account of Life and Death in the People's Temple Cult. When I finished reading it I finally had a sense of how and why young idealists like Mr Hassan and Ms Layton joined their respective groups, from where they garnered the strength to leave and why they would later try to save others by telling their own stories.
Excellent summer reading.
Very practical and informative.......2005-05-23
This book is grounded in Steve Hassan's personal experience of leaving the moonies and his massive efforts since then to provide education on how to help people leave destructive cults.
It is informative and practical. I have used the advice in it to good effect and can vouch for the fact that it is a grounded and workable approach.
In short, I strongly recommend it to anybody that needs to know more about destructive cults, how to leave them themselves or how to help others leave them.

very good.......2007-01-12
i think this was a very good bio into the life of Mr.LaVey. After reading most of his books, this gives a better understanding of who he was and how he came to be the founder of the Church of Satan.
Anton LaVey - The Secret Life of a Satanist.......2007-01-09
Interesting read to say the least. The man portrayed in the book had one of the most interesting lives ever. However, his entire childhood and most of his early adult life until the creation of the Satanic Church was complete fiction. It is ironic though that the man who was the representative of the Father of lies just happened to be an enormous liar.
One who trully lived Satanic!.......2006-01-29
I notice lots of individuals enjoy pointing the Finger On this Devil of a Gentleman on the truthfulness of his life.Lets not forget that one can also say the same about the Life Of Aleister Crowley. For one who talked so much of secret cheifs,HGA,The crimson drips of saints blood on Babalons chalice and union with Ain etc He love to beat on his Scarlet women, lived from his followers purse once his inheritence ran dry,and died in poverty a Herione addict. The late Mr.Lavey has done lots in Both mundane and magical views of approach for one who doesnt like the RHP blah blah of Other Occultnik Viewpoints. HAIL SATAN!
Secret Life of a Satanist: The Authorized Biography of Anton LaVey.......2005-10-12
I recommend this book to anyone who really would like to know what a true satanist is. It explains the life of Anton LaVey from how be began his life to how he found the Church of Satan. And his erotic involvements with Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield. There are alot of interesing things to find out.
Hell's Own Carny Barker.......2005-08-03
I never knew Lavey. Sometimes, reading about him, one wonders whether anyone ever really did. If you can read between the lines though (too few can), there are some deeply funny and even profound brushes which can be had with the man.
In choosing to either deify or villify him, both his sycophants and his detractors seem to get it all wrong. Lavey is best evaluated warts and all, but also with an eye to the card hand that his critics desperately hide. A quick survey of the characters (or lack thereof) of his three biggest antagonists (the sources of basically every negative accusation making the rounds) speaks for itself. But to whitewash him of any fault would equally leave an impression unworthy of what his legacy suggests.
Much has been made about the fact that Lavey seems to have invented a large part of his 'past' and I feel, from reading this book that this is evidently true. This is supposed to prove that Lavey was a fake and that any of his ideas are suspect. If this is so, then the works of Andy Warhol, Vladimir Nabokov, Jim Morrison, B. Traven and Orson Welles should all be dismissed as counterfeit.
According to Freud, we all make up our 'personas' and attendant 'pasts' as we go along. However, if this book is any record, we don't all do it with equal skill or taste.
Perhaps Lavey's greatest feat of Black Magic was his ability re-enchant the world by awakening an interest in all that is lost, forgotten or damned by consensus reality. Perhaps... but even if he was nothing more than an endearing curmudgeon with a renaissance grasp of junk culture, all his 'artifacts' would still be worth a million kewpie dolls to those with eyes to see.
Yankee Rose indeed.

Jeannette Gagan's Journeying is a must-read for those who are interested in shamanism but have been turned off by fuzzy-headed mystical claims or sloppy exposition. In this well-written and eminently useful manual, shamanism, "perhaps the oldest form of practical spirituality in the world," is explained in a straightforward, scholarly manner by a respected licensed psychologist. Gagan succinctly summarizes the procedures, philosophies, and purposes of modern psychology, illuminating the common areas occupied between the two. She builds a strong case for the introduction of shamanistic journeying into the retinue of healing modalities for the modern psychotherapist. For those intent on healing the psyches of themselves or others, shamanism may well work where other modalities have failed. For example, long-repressed anger can be processed while journeying without fear of upsetting the neighbors, or one day awakening to the horrible realization that you just kicked the dog. --Randall Cohan
Book Description
Journeying not only shows the commonalities shared by shamanism and psychology, but expands on inherent healing possibilities when their forces are joined. This book offers informed insight as to how the practice of journeying weaves into the psychological perspective, as well as providing those who know little about shamanism an enlightened view.
Journeying is the term used to describe a shaman's movement into an altered state of consciousness to obtain healing information. Psychology, like shamanism, works to alleviate human suffering and makes use of altered states in a variety of ways including guided imagery and hypnosis. Shamanism, the oldest healing tradition known to humankind, springs from natural, intuitive, and spiritual sources. Psychology, a relative newcomer on the Western scene, relies on logic and science.
In bringing these two healing disciplines together, the author illustrates how variations on the practice of journeying strengthens the psychological process. The true heart of this book rests in the application of journeying to the healing of emotional wounds--wounds that occur when parents are unable to sufficiently bond with their infants. In such healing journeys shamanic power animals and spirit helpers provide nurturing not previously experienced, softening edges of neediness and desperation that sometimes feed adolescent and adult aggression.
Journeying beats a fast-paced path to the alchemy of psychological transformation in words easily understood by practitioners and lay persons alike.

Apples and Oranges --Shared Slices.......2003-04-15
As a trained psychologist, Jeanette M. Gagan, writes lucidly about the her own personal spiritual journey to wholeness through shamanic practice. By comparing apples (the shaman's fruit of choice) and oranges (the psychologist's fruit of choice), Dr. Gagan succeeds in answering the following questions:
1. How does the shamanic tradition bring such potent healing power to wounds incurred in the earliest months of life? and
2. Could journeying provide a release valve for the violence so rampant in our world?
By contrasting the two traditions historically, Dr. Gagan, underscores the slices of each fruit that can be shared. Central to finding common ground are the notions of altered states of consciousness, imagery, and the Jungian alchemical processes to healing.
Throughout her story Dr. Gagan weaves in carefully chosen vignettes from her clients' journeying, and explains how these experiences transcend verbal therapy and succeed in achieving transformation.
--A very convincing and readable book.
A shamanic practitioner's viewpoint.......2002-07-31
Having experienced the shamanic path directly and then going back for a degree in psychology I found this a good book for helping the psychological community understand the shamanic path of direct experience. Too many people who are facing a spiritual opening (possibly shamanic) are medicated out of the experience because of the professional's limited viewpoint of the shamanic experience and/or the fear of the unknown.
I caution that the shamanic path cannot be catagorized or analyzed, it is fluid and changing; it is chaotic in nature-if you don't know "the way". I suggest that if you are a professional go out and journey for yourself, explore the path, draw your own conclusions.
Review by Bernie P. Nelson.......2002-02-01
'Journeying' combines the oldest healing tradition with present-day psychology. The book provides a dynamic, vital model for healing and psychological growth for anyone interested in self-improvement. The information is highly understandable at the meeting point of shamanic animal symbolism, including the psychotherapeutic experience of altered states of consciousness-'journeying,' and psychology.
A candle in the darkness.......2002-02-01
I don't have to write a wordy essay to sum up what this book is
and what it did for me. Over the last fifteen years I have accumulated
a virtual library of material on shamanism and psychology. All I
needed was three books, this being one of them.I wish and hope a
multitude will read and use the material in this book. Thank you
Jeannette Gagan. P.S. The other two books are, The Way of The Shaman by Michael Harner, and The Vision Seeker by John Lame Deer.
Brilliant! A must-read book!.......2001-10-26
What happens when you combine the studies of psychology and shamanism? Are the two practices divergent...or are there some commonalties? Author, teacher, licensed psychologist and student of shamanism Jeannette Gagan answers with a resounding "yes" in her brilliant book, Journeying.
Dr. Gagan has crafted her book to lead the reader, in a logical order and with easy-to-understand language, through the nature and history of both fields. Then we learn some of the approaches of understanding and healing.
In chapters 3 and 4, Journeying gets down to it...the place where shamanism and psychology intersect, the mending of emotional wounding. Inadequate bonding, neglect, abuse, aggression, anger and violence are some of the conditions we learn about, and the healing brought to bear.
In the final pages, Journeying offers the bridge that brings shamanism and psychology together...that reflects the bond between the alchemy of shamanic healing and the science of psychology. "Shamanic cultures, I found, understand the debilitating effects of trauma and strive to restore wholeness to distressed individuals" writes Dr. Gagan. And, after all, isn't that a prime purpose of psychology, too?
This reviewer is no psychologist nor shaman, but can see and feel the logic and rightness of grand ideas when expressed in a well-written book. Indicative of that is, "Shamans search for lost pieces of soul and return them to members of their community. Psychologists investigate the workings of the mind and strive to validate their methodological approaches. Shamanism has soul to give to psychology. Psychology has science to give to shamanism".
Journeying has insight, love, learning and practical experience to give us. Thank you, Jeannette Gagan, for making the connection!

Customer Reviews:
Comprehensive View on Psychic Assault.......2007-09-13
This is a great book that outlines all the methods of a spiritual or psychic assault and the causes for it. The author mentions numerous specific cases she dealt with that involve different forms of attack and how they were countered.
The purpose of the book is not to act as a guide to heal psychic disorders, but, as the author mentions, to set the focus to areas of an attack that need exploration. The book is also written with the assumption that the reader has some occult knowledge and experience. Nonetheless, methods of psychic defense are still provided and may prove invaluable to those who are beginning to explore spiritual defense or spirituality in general.
Dion also makes a good distinction between mental illness and an actual assault and emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between the two. The book may be old, but it still provides a comprehensive outline on what an occult assault involves allowing the reader the embark on more specific explorations from there. Wide range of topics include but are not limited to: witchcraft, vampirism, risks of ceremonial magic, black lodges, hypnotism, conscious suggestion, elementals, and thought forms.
Initiation Into Defense Against Psychic Attack.......2007-08-23
Initiation Into Defense Against Psychic Attack as seen by Dion Fortune.
This book tells the user how to defend again psi vampires, magickal persons and entityies on the astral level.
The book is old (1927) but still bangs.......2007-07-31
I enjoyed the book greatly regardless of its age. The information is still very much valid today. Ms. Fortune has some ignorant views concerning eastern religions, wicca and some ethnic groups of people, however if you can look past her early 1900 attitudes you will gain excellent information regarding the nature of psychic attacks.
Ignorance lets this book down heavily.......2007-04-19
you cannot indirectly blame other cultures for the evils of the world, ignorance is a far greater foe. I pity the Author for an otherwise well informed book, she has let herself down in her lack of education of other cultures and ignorance. when writing a book research is important, and so is education, that is the ability to understand what you have researched.
In a world often rife in racism and persecution, another coal in the fire. Clearly the Author does not have sufficient knowledge of Wicca or eastern religions, which in 2007 is abismal. may your soul have peace Dion.
this book is an excellent resource.......2006-09-11
the first couple chapters of this book, was not sure what I was getting myself into - but there are several very good pieces of information to be found throughout. I was so pleased to find this, I only wish I would've started reading this author sooner. It's so hard to find an authentic voice in these kinds of books.
Book Description
An irresistible memoir for anyone who's ever wondered what's coming next...
Kimberlee Auerbach has been in therapy. She's seen a Reiki Master. She's even given hypnosis a try. They can't give her want she wants... to know her future is going to be bright, that everything will be okay. So she makes an appointment with Iris Goldblatt, "tarot card reader and mirror of the soul." Instead of predicting the future, each card sparks a memory: like the time Kimberlee tried to be wild, and caught crabs from an Argentine painter; or the night her father "proposed" at Morton's Steakhouse (presenting her with an engagement ring for her boyfriend to use); or the moment Kimberlee found the strength to kick out her freeloading ex. In a Wizard of Oz-like twist of fate, Kimberlee realizes she had the answers all along-that's it's not about looking to the future, it's about trusting yourself along the way.
Exuberantly alive and refreshingly candid, The Devil, The Lovers & Me, will take you on a journey down one woman's path, only to reflect yours back. You, too, will see yourself in the cards ... The Devil, The Lovers, even the Fool.
Customer Reviews:
A Comrade in Kimberlee.......2007-09-26
I loved reading this book! I was up until 2am every night reading it. My only regret is that I whipped through it so fast that now I miss Kimberlee. Her voice is so charming and honest, her reflections and analysis so insightful that you can't help but be thoroughly entertained while you are learning. She has clearly done a lot of work on her journey of self-awareness, and we readers are the benefactors. She expressed so many of my inner-most thoughts that I've never been able to articulate; I I felt that she was my comrade in arms. In fact, I felt so connected and inspired that after finishing the book one Saturday morning, I literally jumped out of bed with more positive energy than I've had in a LONG time, cranked the music, and started cleaning my apartment, ready to continue the journey.
funny and wise.......2007-09-22
This book is hilarious, insightful and moving. There are morsels of wisdom hidden in the pages...after reading it in one sitting during a rainy night while I was on vacation I felt as if I had made a journey within my journey. The connection to the tarot cards doesn't require a leap of faith -- the lessons in each card are in the memories they trigger and the stories they evoke. A beautifully written book by a gifted storyteller.
A MUST READ! .......2007-09-19
Kimberlee Auerbach's book is magically honest, insightful, and hilarious. She reveals those vulnerable moments in life that make you cringe and laugh all at the same time. I admire the honesty of the stories with their uncensored wit and at times her shocking discoveries! It's a quick and fun read -- and an exceptional journey on loving, living, and moving on.
What a pleasure.......2007-09-18
What a pleasure to read this book. Just when you think there are one too many memoirs on the market...you find this little gem. It's more than a memoir; Kimberlee is a natural storyteller, so the book reads just as beautifully bit by bit as it does as a full narrative. Really genuine, really heartfelt, terribly funny, and truly hopeful. Buying it for many many friends and loved ones.
A realistic, warm, heartwarming memoir .......2007-09-15
Ms Auerbach captures the memories of those wonderful, agonizing years of evolving from who we want to be to who we are. Her story hits home with unbridled passion and innocent love of life. Compassionate, forgiving, hilarious, and painfully reminiscent, it allows you to look back and appreciate the years when you thought you were oh so cool on the outside, though you were oh so insecure and scared in your gut.

Psychic growth.......2000-10-17
This story confronts the modern mind with a set realities that not only shkae it to its foundations but reveal it to be a trap that enslaves modern man. The revelations are highly elusive and the novel requires study as well and revisiting. Nontheless, the essential message, when the reader is enlightened with it draws the seeker to a profound knowledge of self, the universe and man's place in it.
A story for a seeker.......2000-10-13
A very interesting story where one of the characters which is a scientist discovers his intuitive side but do not want to accept it. The other characters will help him in this journey so he can accept his true nature. This character can be anyone of us in our society where science is overpowered and nothing is true if it has not been proven by science. This book helps the seeker to make some steps in the way with the example of the main character of this book.
Customer Reviews:
Great book, but annoying too.......2003-03-29
The author does a good job of presenting the Toltec path for those who might otherwise struggle with the writings of Carlos Castaneda.
He claims to have met "Don Juan". I won't comment there, perhaps it was a vision, perhaps Castaneda only had a vision. Perhaps Don Juan met a lot of people (I've met a lot of people, why shouldn't he?). The quality of the work stands above and beyond such things.
However, one thing that was a major turn off was that the author changed a lot of the Castaneda terminology so it would be "politically correct". Personally, I think that the term "ranger" sounds pretty dumb. The terms "warrior" and "stalking" reflect and suggest the strong link to death that runs very strong in the Toltec world. Are we really only "tracking" power? Do we just want to see were it has been so a real "stalker" can capture it for us because we're a bit to PC for the job? :P
Why "pretty it up"? This annoying feature couples with what I found to be a bit too much of a "joy joy" New Age and PC perspective. I suppose the author isn't just redoing Castaneda, and offers his own perspective. Frankly, this addition isn't appreciated. What I loved so much about Castaneda was the "no bs" grit of the perspectives offered there. Castaneda kept it real and this author does harm in my opinion by bending the system like he does. I'd rather have seen him simply offer his own view of the Toltec universe without the references to Don Juan or Castaneda and thereby sully them by association. Either you have the ethos to do it on your own or you ought to submit something more in the spirit of those whom you want to represent.
Oh well, otherwise, it's a comprehensive introduction to the world of the Toltec "sorcerers" found in Castaneda's books (my apologies for saying a bad word).
5 stars for a comprehensive and readable job, 1 star for the patronizing PC goop that pervades this book. I'm weighting the content, and simply plugged my nose when I had to, so 4 stars.
On the bandwagon.......2001-06-08
I too should write a book like this and jump on the fantasy bandwagon. I know as much as Ken does about Castaneda, his book is a rehash of the Castaneda books and says nothing new. Why pretend you knew Don Juan. The book is full of ego and self importance and is completely opposite to the teachings of Don Juan.
Ken, you're supposed to lose self importance not inflate your ego even more.
Excellent overview of Toltec philosophy.......2000-11-10
Writers like Victor Sanchez and Ken Eagle Feather are valuable because they help to clarify, codify, and make practical what don Juan has taught through Castaneda's books. Although on the one hand, it's ultimately a barrier to further growth if you try to make something into a philosophy with certain dogmatic strictures, on the other hand, I found Castaneda's books hard to apply to my own life, until I started reading books by other Toltec writers.
I believe Ken Eagle Feather has a superb handle on these concepts and he does a good job in conveying what they mean.
On a side note, I don't believe book reviews should descend into personal name-calling. Frankly, a lot of Castaneda's stuff could be labeled New Age crap too, and has been done so by various anthropologists and others who have investigated his life. It depends on your point of view, and what you find valuable. What is real? The point is, even if don Juan was not real, how valuable was Castaneda's portrayal of him? How much could you learn from him? Ask Native cultures about the value of stories that cannot be independently verified or seem "unreal." The same, then, applies to Eagle Feather: Even if you don't believe that he has been taught by "the man" don Juan, how much can you learn from what he's written?
Now, in other books Eagle Feather does delve into things like chakras and out-of-body experiences and chanelling, based on his experiences with the Monroe Institute. Depending on how much credibility the author his built with you, and how much stock you put into those phenomena, that will bias you one way or the other. Personally, I feel that his corroboration of various Toltec concepts through diverse explorations only adds to the validity of this material.
Put simply: "A Toltec Path" is an excellent handbook for learning about the way of the warrior. It is not, as Eagle Feather himself says, a replacement for Castaneda's works. Instead, it's a complement, a sort of Cliff Notes, and a very comprehensive one at that. Indeed, I appreciate having all of the major concepts in one place.
Moreover, I'd have to say that I'm not actually a huge Castaneda fan, I've read less than half of his books. But through neo-Toltec writers like Sanchez and Eagle Feather, I feel that I've taken advantage of the available information and used it in my own way to help craft my own path. And that is invaluable.
I highly recommend this book.
don Juan lives on..........2000-05-01
I found this book to be extremely helpful in understanding the Toltec path. It is an incredible reference book for don Juan's teachings. I have read many of Castaneda's books, and this one adds to the richness of the Toltec lineage. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in becoming a warrior-seer.
An entertaining work of ficton.......2000-02-23
Don Juan has certainly gotten around and has many newly discovered apprentices inculding Mr. Ego feather...He has jumped into one "new-age" fad as an expert then another..go figure...

Guided Meditation on the Sefiroth.......2004-11-08
The author has provided a complete set of visualizations on the various Kabbalistic Sefiroth as a guided path towards growth via meditation. It is interesting and even inspiring and a bit poetic as well. It's loaded with symbols of great meaning, but with symbols in general, their meanings are multiple and varied and, ultimately individual as well as collective. I think this book could be a very useful tool as long as the reader doesn't get lost in the fact that it is the author's view and not necessarily accurate for everyone. It is somewhat reminiscent of the ancient Hekalot literature describing a mystical journey through the palaces of heaven, the Talmudic description of the four who travelled to the Garden from which only Rabbi Akiva came away unscathed, the Egyptian Book of the Dead, and the Egyptian Book of Gates. It can be viewed either as a light story (or myth) OR as a set of highly advanced mystical practices in the Kabbalistic tradition. Your choice. If you like it, I would recommend Z'ev ben Shimon Halevi's books, especially the "Way of the Kabbalist."
This will help you to understand the energies of the Tree.......2004-08-11
I have been involved in metaphysical subjects since 1969 and could not understand the Kabbalah or the Tree of Life until the initial printing of this book came out. This is a GREAT book for people of a non-Jewish background, especially if you are a Pagan, who wish to understand this glyph of the Kabbalah. Once you read the book it will enlighten you to the reason of why the Sephira react the way they do. My advice is to get a copy of this book, read it as a novel (like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) then get a diagram of the Tree of Life, see the correlations, and do the chapters as a meditation. Then you can go back to Jewish texts about the Tree and understand what they are trying to say. This is a CLASSIC, EASY-TO-UNDERSTAND Text about the Tree of Life that shouldn't keep going out of print the way it does,so get yours today.
A true companion.......2003-02-13
If I ever end up shipwrecked on an island with no hope of rescue, this is the one book I MUST have with me. It's twenty years old now and for pleasure I still reread all of the pages, finding new details and new insights. In the introduction, the author suggests reading with deliberation and care. She probably didn't have my pace in mind! But it's been a joy and a deepending understand with each foray. I highly recommend this work to anyone with a sincere penchant for becoming the best you can be on a spiritual level. It's a 'keeper'.
Glorious, Dramatic Experience.......2000-06-16
Dolores has a gift for the histrionic and leads her guided meditation sessions with a unique flair. In this book she expresses her skills to the utmost and also gives the reader/participator a magnificent grounding in the sephiroth and paths. If you want to study the attributes use this book. Also if you want to set the tree in motion in your life use this book.
Unusual and almost unique.
