Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
Window shopping
In postwar America, everything pointed to a bright, shiny future. Sheer optimism and opulence informed everything from automobile design to architecture, infusing design with larger-than-life planes and curves. Storefront design of the era is particularly indicative of this phenomenon, incarnated here in an extensive collection of hand-illustrated shop window designs from 1938 to 1950. These spectacular, often grandiose plans for grocery stores, shoe shops, beauty salons, bakeries, and more are reminders of a time when stores were sacred shrines for the congregation of American shoppers--impressive and even slightly intimidating, just like the future itself. Collected for this unique book, the designs viewed in retrospect reveal the mindset of a unique period in history. In addition to an extensive selection of drawings are historical black and white photographs of actual shops built in a similar style. Shop America offers a rare look at mid-century commercial America as it pictured itself.
Customer Reviews:
disappointing.......2007-06-16
I was disappointed in this book. The best picture is the one on the cover. Inside, each selection is pretty much the same. "Style suggestion for a florist shop," "Style suggestion for a shoe store," etc. Has diagrams and font types, window measurements, etc. All tech stuff that's not really interesting to me. I would have returned it, but didn't want to mess with the shipping. Sigh.
American Business Embraces Modernism.......2007-04-29
In the midst of the Great Depression, American Business adopted an American form of modernism that heralded a new age of technology and progress. This period of design history is sometimes called, "Machine Age", "Streamline Modern" or "Midcentury Modern." This belief in the spirit of progress can be seen in almost all American design of this period.
"Shop America" adds to our understanding of the time by focusing on store front design. American glass companies produced beautifully illustrated catalogs that promoted the use of glass and modern building materials. These catalogs inspired architects and small business owners to create store fronts that embraced the progressive spirit of modernism.
When many of us think of the 1940's and 1950's, we think of a conformist age best understood by old television shows like Ozzie and Harriet and Father Knows Best. However, a book like "Shop America" also demonstrates that American business and consumers of the time were willing to adopt a bold modernist vision. Although the designs in these books are 50-60 years old, they are still very fresh and exciting.
This book was produced by the German Publisher, Taschen. Like all Taschen books it is a very good value. It is a large format book with very high production values. This book is a must purchase for all enthusiasts of the period as well as for contemporary architects and designers. Highly recommended.
Streamline meets Atomic on Main.......2007-03-18
Turn the pages of this fascinating book and you're window shopping on Main Street in the late forties, plenty of consumer goods are just a touch away thanks to large glass windows. The essence of the book is more than ninety ideas for storefronts created by the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. Each has an artists rendering, sometimes a technical detail or floor plan and technical information about the glass used.
It is the exuberant artwork that makes the book come alive. They capture a mid-century of elegant shoppers seduced by Carrara glass and Aluminum. Virtually every store has an overall streamline design frequently mixing atomic motifs and the final individual touch is the name in a modern sans type or a casual script for a ladies retail unit. Strangely there is no actual reference to the Pittsburgh PGC or the artists though E A Lundberg has his signature on many of the illustrations.
This is a large book (handsomely designed and printed) that fortunately makes all the wonderful renderings large too. In the first few pages Steve Heller contributes an overview of storefront design illustrated with black and white photos of real stores in large American cities. Predictably few of them are as flamboyant as the concept artwork in the glass-makers sales material.

Great Travel Companion..........2006-06-05
For those of you interested in the praticality of this as a travel companion, trust me, it works. The maps are not enough alone to find buildings in their respective cities but between knowing their general locations and addresses you can easily navigate your way to find them. I carried this book in my pocket around Europe and can say first hand that it was the best travel guide I had. A must for any Architect or student planning on traveling.
So Many Buildings In Such A Little Book.......2006-03-27
When the original Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture was released in My 2004, several reviews were more enticed with the size of the tome in contrast to its contents. Frankly, I was put off by the price tag (albeit well deserved).
However, the recently released Travel Edition of the tome has become one of the essential resources of my library.
First, don't be put off of the fact that the softcover book is referred to as a Travel Edition as it contains a wealth of projects (subdivided by continents then countries). For each project there is a single project photo, project address, and the project architect. With each building a sentence or two states the significance of the project to 'Contemporary World Architecture' (an overly broad subject in itself).
Second, there is a grand diversity to the projects profiled in the Travel Edition in terms of project types and locations. I haven't come across another book to date that offers such a variety of projects within the covers.
Lastly, the Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture Travel Edition provides project insights and narratives that are free of any bias or criticism. The lack of both is something that is rarely found in a subject as subjective as architecture, and is welcomed in this context.
The Atlas suffers from a minor foreseeable problems. The book limits itself to projects that were complete as of the time when the book went to press. Any building completed during its printing or afterwards suffers the fate of being excluded from the Atlas; perhaps it/they will be included in future editions.
Excellent resource for an Excellent Price.......2006-03-21
I think this is a book EVERY architect student should posses as a reference. It contains a large selection of references from all over the world. In comparison to the large version, which is rather costly for a student, this version contains brief descriptions and its a good size. I just wish there was a version on DISK!!!
So many buildings, so little time.......2006-01-30
Superb little book. The only problem is how to see all the buildings in it before you die.
A great little book, esp for European buildings.......2005-12-23
This compact travel guide is a good bet, especially for European buildings. For the US try the latest edition of The Architecture Traveler.

The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture--so massive that it comes in its own plastic carrying case--is one of the rare publishing events that lives up to its hype. The book showcases 1,052 buildings completed since January 1998 with thousands of well-chosen color photographs plans, elevations, and cross-sections. Major elements of each project are described in elegantly succinct texts. Rather than simply pay lip service to the concept of "world" architecture, this book ranges throughout 75 countries on six continents. And although the big names in the field are here--Rafael Moneo and Herzog & De Meuron are each represented by nine projects; Tadeo Ando with eight, Frank Gehry with six--the focus is on the ingenuity and diversity of contemporary architecture, regardless of the fame of its creator. The book's global view embraces many approaches, including experimental construction, neo-modernism, postmodernism, reinterpreted vernacular architecture and lingering traces of the International Style. While virtually every building type is included, from factories to museums, from lookout towers to train stations, the largest and most creative category is single family housing. Selected (as were all the projects) by a panel of leading architects, critics, scholars and others, these homes offer a tantalizing sense of what is possible, even on a modest budget. Grouped by country, the residences establish a sense of local context--from the elegant use of Scandinavian wood to the imaginative use of narrow plots of land in Tokyo. Fully indexed, with an array of maps and world data charts, The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture is destined to serve as a unique reference tool. But the geographic organization encourages you to just open the book anywhere and make a discovery--perhaps the surreal vision of Ake Larsson's Icehotel (carved from ice and snow), or the forest of Cor-ten steel pipes Jose ABP Forjaz used in the Mbuzini Memorial, or the startling shed forms of Rick Joy's Tubac House. --Cathy Curtis
Book Description
The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture presents a global survey of the most outstanding works of contemporary architecture from around the world completed in the last five years. Organized geographically and illustrated with global, regional and sub-regional maps locating each building, the book illustrates more than 1,000 completed buildings, and includes some of the most influential projects as well as many lesser-known buildings from around the world. Sections on World Data, Building Data and Architect's Biographies build up a detailed picture of the influences on contemporary architecture today. Every building type, from the largest publicly-funded art museums and airports to private houses, is covered, and each project is illustrated with colour photographs, line drawings and a descriptive text.

any how in total this book as a project is considerable and hope getting better in future Editions.
Customer Reviews:
Wondeful and inspiring.......2003-12-04
I saw Nader T. speak at a lecture here in Detroit. The reviewer that said that the book does not capture the degree of thoughtfulness that is involved in their design process is absolutely correct. Perhaps it is because the text is not their own words? who knows. Even so, this book has some of the most intriguing manipulations to seemingly standard materials and construction. This book shows how Office dA take their hand to urban planning, furniture design, and architecture. Each of the physical models shown are a feat of craftsmanship, almost comparable to the complexity of Morphosis models, yet I tend to side with office dA for SUBSTANCE and technology (no offense, Thomas Mayne.) Office dA is one of the most sophisticated thinkers in small/medium scale architecture in the United States right now. According to their last lecture here in Detroit, we will be seeing larger projects in the near future.
The fact that most of their work in this book is unbuilt makes little difference. The models are so meticulously detailed that it might as well be built.
-Nicholas Kothari
something to sink your teeth into.......2002-07-04
I've never understood architecture monographs that rely almost solely on text and photos. Design is about drawing, and without sketches, details, section and plans, the resulting building exists in a vacuum. For that reason, I really enjoyed this book. The use of working drawings gives you an understanding of the thought and technique that results in some very creative and beautiful designs. The photographs (and there are quite a few of them) do a great job of bringing out the subtle details of Office dA's work. Granted, it's not all architecture (there are furniture and sculpture pieces) and not much of it is built (8 out of 11 projects are in model form), but it's engaging and inspiring nonetheless. It was also nice (and, as a student, instructive) to see scale models of such a high quality, instead of the usual computer-generated renderings. It's a great book for anyone interested in current design, and a must-have for architecture students.
An informative monograph.......2000-03-30
While most monographs are unfortunately stuffed with photos of built work, Office dA has very little built work, this one is is pleasantly filled with many sketches and working drawings. There are two completed projects (as seen in Architecture) and many uncompleted projects. I heard Nader Tehrani speak at the Wexner Center and unfortunately the book cannot begin to describe the thoughtful manner of their designs. Otherwise, it is an excellent book that shows the process of their design. For a monograph this is an excellent book.
Book Description
James Cutler is one of those rare contemporary architects who has converted environmental technology, an ecologically responsible choice of materials, and a strong earth consciousness into art. In his work the site area, regional topography, local vegetation, and the "psychology of situtation" are intrinsic parts of his aesthetic decisions. With regard to this psychological element, it refers to his ability to connect to an ambient sensibility that gives any artform its relevance. This unifying sensibility has been defined by our acknowledgment that, if we are to survive as a species, the damage wrought by global industrialization must be reversed.
While Cutler's work incorporates a form of construction technology that clearly identifies him as an architect of the 1990s, he does not celebrate industrial imagery the way, for example, the buildings of Rem Koolhaas, Jean Nouvel, or Richard Rogers harken back to Machine Age sources. Cutlers's buildings, like Frank Lloyd Wright's, grow out of complex architectural investigations. They are based on an understanding of the unique qualities of each situation, rather than an adherence to some prescriptive set of forms endorsed by a fashionable "in" movement or the comfortable reassurances of an easily accessible design vocabulary.

Absolutely LOVE!.......2004-07-15
James Cutler's work is wonderful. His concern for the environment and commitment to not distrubing the buildings surroundings is amazing. The book contains great pictures, distinctly showing his use of wood and jointery. It contains a few drawings on each building, some being rather small and sometimes smudged. Despite this, the book is one of my favorites mainly because of the pictures of such wonderful architecture. If only we could all have such clients (and budget) to work with!
Reads like an Annual Report.......2002-06-14
Architects, like engineers, once they venture beyond technical matters, often don't know what to say. (I guess if you spend all your time reading music, you forget how to improvise.) But they are often called upon, unlike engineers, to justify their work. The result here is, sadly, not worth reading. That said, he has good taste. His houses use stone and wood almost exclusively, and are invariably set in beautiful locations.
It's the Only One.......2000-07-20
A four star book about a five star architect. Wish there were more written about Cutler but this is it. Great introductory purchase into the work of the father of the "Northwest style." Until more is published, this is my Cutler reference. Good color pics. Pencil drawings that are truely Cutler craft.
Very fine book about a very fine architect.......2000-03-06
This is a very fine book about a very fine architect (from a publisher who's also doing a very good job). James Cutler's work has much more substance than virtually all of his better-known peers. He's concerned about the natural environment and that concern is translated into definite design strategies. He's also very much concerned with the craft of building and he understands that the art of architecture depends on materials and how they're assembled. This concern and understanding is evident in his loving and thoughtful development of details and in his material choices, which are very purposeful. This is not the type of architect who would treat brick the same as sheet metal when the budget wouldn't permit titanium. I think the reviewer who says that this work is "tectonically wacked" misses the boat. I agree that there are some minor oddities but if James Cutler's architecture isn't "tectonic," I don't know what is. I'd be tempted to say his work is all about tectonics if it wasn't also about space, sustainability, humane design, beauty..... I only wish the book were not so compact, but I appreciate the compact price. An important architect who has convictions, designs accordingly, and lets the world of fashion play its games by itself, a million miles away.
Tectonically Wacked!.......1999-12-22
The work in this book is tectonically wacked!
Book Description
Similar in format to Phaidon's Contemporary World Architecture, Contemporary World Interiors is a thorough survey of the current state of international interior design. This is a comprehensive survey of notable currents in interior architecture and design over the past 25 years, describing historical precedents and analyzing future directions. Contemporary World Interiors is exhaustive in scope, presenting some 450 projects on six continents in countries as diverse as China, Russia, the Czech Republic, Brail, Israel, Botswana, and South Korea, in addition to Japan, Western Europe, and the United States. More than 400 architects and designers are featured, from world-renowned figures such as John Pawson, Philippe Starck, Peter Marino, Marcel Wanders, and Zaha Hadid to rising stars such as the Campana Brothers, LOT-EK, Lindy Roy, Italy's UdA, and Japanese firms such as SANAA and Atelier Bow-Wow. Organized by category into 11 chapters, the book goes far beyond the traditional emphasis on residences and commercial spaces, including religious interiors, performance halls and cultural centers, civic spaces, restaurants, hospitals, and therapeutic spaces, among others.
Each chapter is heavily illustrated with color photographs and plans - over 1,000 total - all reproduced in a generous size. In its variety and scope, the book depicts the expanding vision and impact of the interior designer, product designer, decorator, and, of course, architect. Contemporary World Interiors illustrates the public's growing fascination with, and investment in, the designed interior.

Book Description
Since the opening in 1997 of the Guggenheim Bilbao, designed by Frank Gehry, museum architecture has enjoyed worldwide attention on an unprecedented scale. That single watershed project demonstrated to municipalities that architecture has the power to transform the image of an entire city, thus making the turn of the twenty-first century the unofficial age of the museum building.
New Museums examines the boom in high-design museum projects in detail, beginning with the Guggenheim Bilbao’s groundbreaking role in the development of contemporary museum architecture. It continues with a beautifully illustrated tour of 30 examples of the most innovative and exciting museum architecture around the world, including Tadao Ando’s Museum of Modern Art in Fort Worth, Zaha Hadid’s Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Renzo Piano’s Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, and many others.

31 museums in only good photos.......2007-02-09
31 museums in this small size survey at only 6.5 x 8.25 inches (16.5 x 21 cm) are depicted only by photos, but good ones. Following the introductory part on 12 pages, each of 31 buildings is headed by a description filling up a title page with text followed by 5 pages with only photos. This is an album-like book without any technical edge. It is similar to the book "New Museums" (ISBN: 0714844985), but only a half of its size and... splendor. Like all from the Universe Architecture series, it is compact and well published.
