Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Great manga!.......2003-10-06

I have alawys loved most manga but MARS is one of my favorites. When I first encountered it the plot seemed extremely cliche and boring, but when I started reading it I couldn't stop. This is not the average romantic-good-girl-helps-corrupted-bad-(but good on the inside)-guy. It has some major twists that, while you may see coming, are always intense. I have read up to 11 but cannot wait to finish it- Mars is that riviting!

This whole series is the best manga I've read. It is wonderful and I would recommend it for everyone who like intrigue and romance. The characters are original and very interesting. I can not wait for the next book to be published.

The End Of Mars.......2004-01-21

For those who picked the book up when it first came out, and where sucked into it's wonderful art and most creative story, then you must know that this series gets better book by book, and as sad as it may be, the ending is perfect for it. Several unanswered questions come into play... will Kira tell Rei about the letter form Sei? How will old characters come into play? Will they be happy or will it end in tears? Only one way to find out! I enjoyed this manga however, because it was a perfect ending!

I have loved this series so much that I was almost sad when I picked up this volume...I knew it would end! Normally, I'm not one for dramatic soap operas, but there's something extremely compelling about Rei and Kira's story. The characters of Mars are simply fantastic and a joy to follow along. In this volume, Masao (yes, I groaned, too) reared his ugly head once again and escapes from the hospital only to stab Rei on his wedding night. They really scared me for a few pages when it seemed Rei was going to die (relax, ladies, he's just fine and dandy), and then thankfully, Rei gets back to racing. I can't wait until the Gaiden: Horse with No Name comes out. June...*sigh* Anyway, a great end to a great manga series!

Great balance.......2007-05-21

It is a great balance between scientific technospeak and general ideas. It's easy to follow though, because if you aren't really into and/or understand things like velocity and chemistry, you can continue reading and he explains it in another way. As you read it, many of the questions that pop up in your mind are soon answered. He does sound a bit bitter and frustrated on some NASA related manners, though it seems understandable. However, I do sense a hint of derision about the other sometimes important aspects of the federal budget that is sometimes annoying. He makes a convincing case about the ability and necessity of going into space.

The single most authoritative book on the potential human future in space.......2006-05-12

Astonishingly imaginative and technically authoritative, this is the single best and most important book that exists right now on the possibilities for the human future in space. Full disclosure: I have written articles for books Zubrin has edited. Dr. Zubrin, a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering with master's degrees in physics and aeronautics and astronautics, probably did more than any other single person to change everyone's thinking, including NASA's, about human missions to other planets, with the mission architecture he came up with for sending humans to Mars.

With Entering Space, he lays out a full overview of the human exploration and settlement of space, beginning with a penetrating look at the lack of progress in our human spaceflight capabilities over the past few decades, and progressing through manned missions to the Moon, Mars, the asteroids, throughout the solar system, and then to other star systems. His vision is of a thousand people on Mars a hundred years from now, and millions of people on thousands of planets a thousand years from now. A detailed technical manifesto.......2004-12-25

If you're like me, you've always felt that it would be pretty cool (and useful) to be able to travel through space like we currently jet around the globe. If that's the case, then you've probably also ran up against a huge wall of "who cares?" whenever you try to express your excitement about the possibilities inherent in space travel. This cogent, well-researched book will help you do two things: Convince your friends that a spacefaring civilization is possible in the few decades or so, and that it is worthwhile. Believe you me - I have always thought that the problems involved in getting ourselves to Mars were more political than technical, but Zubrin makes it abundantly clear how we can get to Mars, the asteroids, and accomplish a host of other tasks, and all for pennies on NASA's current dollar estimates. Furthermore, he outlines the possible benefits to such programs, including the literally astronomical mineral wealth of the asteroids, technological drives, and the intangibles that go along with a new human push towards the frontiers. This book has rekindled the vision of space for me and every one of my friends who has taken the time to read it.

Highly recommended.

A touch preachy, speculative and stodgy.......2004-01-14

Robert Zubrin is obviously dissatisfied with the state of affairs with NASA. He complains about the lack of funding for certain programs and the lack of direction from the top brass. He makes his point but he should have cut it short.

The author seems to overlook potential pitfalls in his ideas. On using nuclear fusion for propulsion, Zubrin states that exhaust speed could reach 5 percent lightspeed, therefore Alpha Centauri could be reached in 86 years. This assumes that extra time for acceleration is negligible. For acceleration time to be negligible, the power involved would be well beyond what current research in fusion power suggests is reasonable. This oversight makes be doubt the feasibility of his much wilder proposals.

I appreciate technical details but Zubrin uses a pedantic style of writing more suitable for a textbook than a leisurely read. Zubrin's previous work, The Case for Mars, was never so tedious.

However, Zubrin does a good job on explaining many principles and concepts that would be of great interest to the space enthusiast--mainly on how to best exploit the solar system's resources while achieving inspirational goals for humanity. He also gives a concise overview of the debate on extraterrestrial intelligence an their detection.

I do recommend this book for space enthusiasts, but they should take it with a grain of salt.

Check the numbers!.......2003-06-03

I have only read the first seven chapters of this book so far, but I feel compelled to point out some errors of information. Zubrin attacks any idea that doesn't go to Mars directly without proper research. A few hours of web searching have shown that his pessimistic numbers about solar power and lunar agriculture are not up to par. Zubrin is a rocket engineer, and so he thinks only in terms of rockets. So far in my reading I haven't seen anything about light sails or his own magnetic sail idea (for an interesting breakthrough on magsails, run a web search for M2P2). Zubrin really, really wants to go to Mars right now, and so he tries to discredit any colonization ideas that don't accomplish that objective. Personally, I don't know why we would go to all of the trouble to escape one gravity well only to go and crawl down another one.

MARS, not for everyone.......2003-07-18

Mars is in my opinion the best manga yet created (cine-manga not included) how ever, parents who buy this for young kids should be wary, there is alot of violence, curse words, sexual senes and references and some may find some of the past stories disturbing, however, one ur into it u cant get out, it has all the coponents of a A+ manga

Better then average...........2003-11-27

I guess its a very typical premise. Bad Boy/Good Girl get together and have turbulent relationship.

I've only read to volume 9(And that's only because I can't buy them all at once!). As of today that's what I've read to. And I've loved Mars, its not only addictive, but its worth being addicted to!!

A lot of the characters do start out stereotypically, but I think they really break from those stereotypes with a lot of character development. I really understand where Kira is coming from. Maybe that person thinks she's damsle-distressy. And maybe she is, but some people are like that. Or wish they were(Despite all the feminime crap that we shouldn't be like that and are'nt like that stuff.). I mean I've been through some stuff similar to Kira. And well I guess unless you've been through it you may not think her actions are realistic or whatever. But I really saw a lot me in her.

Whether or not its a pretty overused story-line, I think Mars is a *great* Manga. The characters(Like Harumi, I thought she seemed all B**** at first, and she'd be the typical girl you love to hate, but she ends up being really nice and one of my fav characters. :D) to me are quite intrueging(And no, I'm not a sheltered little kid, I, in fact make studying people my hobby. :D). And I'm always wondering what will happen next, I figure they'll probrably end up together in the end, but maybe they wont. Either way I'm more concerned with what happens along the way.

So I say you should give Mars a shot, if you've never read manga before its great place to start!! Its made me think a lot about myself, and make me try to get over some things in the past. So it can't be all bad. :D

Well, also, its not for everyone because there is quite a bit of vulgarity, violence, and sexuality. So beware, but *enjoy*.! :)

Try working in a school system, Dr. Gray.......2006-11-18

I would like to cordially invite Dr. John Gray to visit and work in the public school system, of which many campuses are run exclusively by women. These women can be very matter-of-fact, get-down-to-business and get-the-job-done. Those gals are there to work. Some of them try to bond emotionally and some do not. But they get their jobs done. They often have to do things they don't "feel" like doing, but they do it and they do it darned well.

I think the best cross-gender communication, whether at work or socially, can be as follows;

1. Listen as well as talk.
2. Respect the other person's views.
3. Don't try to make a psychological statement about another person's style, whether male or female.
4. Don't hog the limelight.
5. Respond with empathy.
6. Park your ego outside the door.

In other words, practice GOOD MANNERS!

Different Planets?.......2004-07-31

I think John Gray has brilliantly created the captivating concept of the coexisting male and female planets of behavior. Women are Venusians, and men are Martians. We all laugh and joke about it, but never truly understand. It was written in a way we can all relate. The book is not only informative, but entertaining. Sure, I enjoy research and stats but this was real life in action. When reading the scenarios you immediately recall a situation of which you have experienced and it's almost like problem solving along the way. These ideas are good for everyone.
Of course neither planet is right or wrong, a great combination is best. Since reading this book, I have developed more "Martian" characteristics, but I will never give up my collaborating "Venusian" style. I have mixed both styles and I think this has made me a better communicator in the workplace.
In the business world if you know each other's planet you are at an advantage. There can be so many misinterpretations if you don't understand the other planet. Knowing more about Mars has made me happier at home and more confident at work.
This book will help you understand the differences in men and women when it comes to problem solving. Women chat about it and men want to be alone. In the business world, it is important to think about. Unfortunately, some male managers can see chatting as a sign of weakness. This sounds really discriminating, but it can be true in certain situations, particularly at meetings. And when it comes time for reviews and appraisals women often don't credit themselves for ideas as a man would.
I have read many pop culture self-help books and this book really made me self evaluate my Venusian ways and I definitely need to develop more `Martian style' to balance out my sometimes too over powerful `Venusian style'. But as the book states-it's not about changing you, but just to better your understanding of how men and women behave and communicate. This book can completely improve your workplace relationships since you will have a different perspective.

The biggest thing missing from my MBA education was learning how to interact with other people. Business is nothing if we can't communicate effectively and regularly. This book explains in clear terms how men can understand women and communicate effectively. We men can't talk to women the way we do with other men. We are very different. By following Dr. Gray's guidelines, men can learn how to earn the trust and respect of female co-workers. We can learn easy ways to speak the woman's language and understand her perceptions. The most fascinating aspect is the description of women's emotions, what they mean, and positive responses men can use to increase productivity and create a pleasant workplace. Working in harmony is the only way to go.

I should think that this book can be especially helpful to women, as they are basically working in a world that has been designed and run by men. As Dr. Gray says, a woman's challenge in the workplace is greater than a man's. While the books and research of Gail Evans and Dr. Deborah Tannen and others have described gender differences, this book by Dr. Gray sheds light on many aspects of workplace problems and offers solutions that are easy, respectful, effective, and even fun.

Another outstanding mars venus book.......2002-03-15

Dr Gray has done it again...another outstanding book.His insights have assisted me with my male(martians)client.My practice is now brimming with males....because I now understand not to give unsolicited advice...but rather ask better questions.The tools and skills should be taught in schools.I wish I had of know the differences when I first started out in the workplace.Bravo Dr Gray...
It is truly amazing how little changes make such big differences.The quality of my relationships since using the mars venus principles has gone to levels I had never dreamed of!
As a single parent with two boys,I am grateful for all the knowledge and practical advice....It is wonderful to have such a close connection with them.
I would suggest everyone in the workplace read this.How wonderful to go back to basics,courtsey,shivilery.I could only image how much more pleasant,loving and caring the world would be if everyone adopted Grays work!

Workplace is right on!.......2002-03-14

I found myself underlining everything! In true J.G. fashion, he has described the human condition, and the way we interact.I thought it was brilliant, and very helpful in particular for understanding myself and the opposite sex in regards to problems solving and dealing with stress.

Romance Roller Coaster.......2004-07-27

This series makes you feel all the emotions the characters feel, and if there was ever a MARS Romance Roller Coaster, this book has top coverage. Rei pretends he's over breaking up with Kira, and it crushes her. Then, Kira waits for Rei to come home, but instead, Rei's out 'gettin some' and decides he loves Kira midway,and sucks up to her. When he finally finds her, she's about to be abducted by a couple teenagers, and he takes her home. But lo and behold, Kira's stepfather finds out about Rei, and trouble arises. Then, Kira almost kills her sepfather because she thought he was going to assult her again. Helpless, she runs to Rei, who takes her in with open arms. kira demans Rei does not leave her that night, and kira says she dosent mind what rei would do to her if he spent the night with her.....and Rei accepts....

Fascinating & Unique.......2007-06-27

Stashed away in the Bancroft Library in Berkeley, in the Huntington Library in San Marino, and in a dozen other places are the original letters, diaries, reports, articles, and other accounts of Spanish and Mexican California. Such primary documents are simply inaccessible to the lay reader.

However, what Rose Marie Bebe and Robert Senkewicz -- both professors at Santa Clara University -- have done is to select various primary materials, draw excerpts, translate them to English, and then add introductory commentary to set each item in its historical context. The result provides a direct view into California's Spanish and Mexican heritage through the words of those who lived those times.

While each selection covers no more than a few pages, here are passages from Colombus, de las Casas, Cortes, Cabrillo, Vizcaino, Portola, Serra, Fages, Osio, Pico and many others whose names may be familiar from general surveys of California history. Also included, where possible, are accounts from the indigenous people and a selection from the Russians who hunted for furs along the northern coast. Of particular interest is "1785: Trials of a Frontier Woman" which contains a petition from Dona Callis in protest against her husband.

The compact disposition of each document allows for two advantages: the text never drags and the book is able to cover a comprehensive range of topics (more than seventy original documents are presented). This is a marvelous reader of carefully edited materials. The authors have done the hard work; their scholarship is for us to enjoy.

Good introduction to early California history.......2002-07-02

This book covers the era when California (also known as Alta California) was a possession of Spain and Mexico. It is essentially a collection of first hand accounts from various people of this era.

Since most, if not all, of these accounts were originally in Spanish, they require translation, and that is the book's one weakness: almost all the accounts read like they were written by the same person; some of the character of the individual writers is lost.

DK Guías Visuales El Mar has done it again.......2006-01-07

DK Publishing Guías Visuales Series of nature books are all outstanding. This definitely includes El Mar. The pictures are outstanding. The book contains sections on oceans of the past, life in the sea, how the seas affect climate, coral, life in the coral, explorers of the sea, marine products, and more. Definitely for 8 year olds to adults. Great reference and reading book for students and teachers alike.
