Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Love this boook!.......2007-10-03
I agree with the last review that this book will make you want to
sell everything to see just how much you can do without. I have
a very large home and yet feel unhappy with it. I had such a feeling of peace just reading about the kind of life described in this book!
makes you wanna sell everything!!!.......2007-09-23
This book takes my breath away...it makes me want to sell everything and move into the smallest space I can find. Everyone needs to read this and realize what we are all capable of living without!!
A small house must read............2007-07-15
I was skeptical when I first heard of the book since the cover had photos of what I considered some old, boring small homes. Then I looked closer and saw there were some really interesting looking ones like I have seen in Mexico, Greece and along the coasts of France, Italy and Spain and even in Scotland and Ireland.
Like that the author challenges the reader to really set aside notions that one had about how things have to be done. And how thinking outside the box, and asking oneself how little does one need to be content and how can that thinking be applied to designing or redoing a small home to make it more livable as well as more calm and enjoyable.
And how to use materials that are reclaimed but also energy efficient and appealing to the eyes. And a home that will allow you to live well and below your means. In fact I lay in bed and realized the small cottage I live in that was built in the late 1800's is to big for me. That I want something clean, small and open.
And the book may make you go even further as I have done, and sell off a lot of stuff one has that one doesn't need nor often even want. Almost like being told that a really cool sailboat with living quarters below can be yours within two weeks, and you then get really serious and sort out what you really need and then make the move.
This book should challenge as well as inspire the reader. Even the one who thought owning a McMansion was the only way to go.
With New Eyes.......2007-03-02
This book really changed how I look at home life. The text is meaty and kept me up two nights in a row. I had been grumping about how cramped my house seemed. With a spouse, two dogs, and a cat our 2000 sf seemed, well, just not big enough. After reading the book, and thinking about it, I saw the real problem, it was never a space issue, it was a stuff issue. For the past two weeks we have thinned, sorted, trashed, donated and otherwise cleared out roughly half of what was in the house. Now the house can breathe and there is space for us. So, even if you live in a regular size space, or can't imagine living in a small one, this is a grand book. It really helps you see the functions of a home and isolate your needs. If you are working at living a simple, green or wabi-sabi life this book is a must.
this book is amazing.......2007-02-28
It is much much more than a set of floorplans. It is a guide to a happy life in your home. Here's a quote "do you want to live in a home or a bank?" - So many people look at their home as an investment first, and dont really look at how happy they really are in their house.
This book made a major difference in how I look at my existing house. My fiancee and I are using the insights from the book to happily merge two households into one - without "space wars". It has given me insight which enabled me to feel that "I own my house - my house does not own me". There are lovely photographs and ideas - as well as a great sprinkling of history and insightful thoughts throughout the book.
Like the small but elegant domiciles the authors highlight, this book is no assembly-line product... it is obviously a carefully constructed labor of love.

Fresh Perspectives on a Fragile Planet.......2006-01-28
Let's not forget we're living on a little planet, what some like to call spaceship earth. If earth is a spaceship, this is the owner's manual: THE HOME PLANET. Political boundaries are dissolved by a moon's-eye view of Earth to create bold visions of the planet through 150 color photographs culled from the American and then-Soviet archives. Commentary is provided solely by eloquent quotes from astronauts of 18 nations which are shown both in original language (be it Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, Hindi, Mongolian, French, German, Spanish, Hungarian, Romanian, Polish, Czech, Bulgarian, Dutch, or Russian) and English translation. The message is simple--we are all citizens of the same global nation.
An excellent choice for anyone of any age.......2002-03-07
This superb coffee table book by Kevin W. Kelley is especially apt in this day and age, when so much in life feels precarious and precious. A simple and simply eloquent collection of photographs and quotations, it is so much more than the sum of its parts.
The astronauts who have either landed on the moon or have orbited the earth have so much to tell us and it's easy to see from the photographs why they feel words fail them. Luckily for us, words DON'T fail them. This select, small group of men and woman try mightily to tell us what their experiences were, and overwhelmingly they succeed in conveying the mystery and beauty they saw from their unique perches in space. A few of the better bits include:
"[From space] you have an almost dispassionate platform--remote, Olympian--and yet [seeing the earth from up there is] so moving that you can hardly believe how emotionally attached you are to those rough patterns shifting steadily below."
- THOMAS STAFFORD, USA
"O. Henry, the American writer, wrote in one of his stories that if you want to encourage the craft of murder, all you have to do is lock up two men for two months in an eighteen-by-twenty-four-foot room. Entering 'Salyut,' which was to be both our home and our office for six months, we told each other: We are brothers. I am you and you are me."
- VALERIE RYUMIN, USSR
"Before I flew, I was already aware of how small and vulnerable our planet is; but only when I saw it from space, in all its ineffable beauty and fragility, did I realize that humankind's most urgent task is to cherish and preserve it for future generations."
- SIGMUND JAHN, GERMANY
In no book that I can think of does the phrase "A picture is worth a thousand words" better fit. The photographs herein are astonishing in showing the exquisite planet we occupy. A view of England's North Sea coast looks like a slab of lapiz lazuli, its surface flecked with sparkle and hue. Canada's Lake Winnipeg from space has the appearance of something primal, almost fetal. The Indian Ocean off Madagascar looks like a sheet of slate over which some divine presence has tossed a handful of diamonds. So few of us can ever hope to share the experience of these men and women that this book is all the more precious, and beautiful.
Only Being in Orbit Could Give You a Better View!!!!.......2001-03-28
This coffee table book presents some of the best photographs taken of the Earth and the Moon by both astronauts and cosmonauts. Due to the large size of the book, these photographs are even more stunning. In addition to the photographs, several quotes by those who have flown in space accompany each photograph.
One of things that I really liked about the book is that other than the small quotes, there is very little accompany text. The only real text is at the end of the book, where NASA's chief photographic planner describes "Why Space Photography?" I found thispart kind of chilling where he states, "it is a far more air-polluted Earth today than it was in the past ... twenty years ago"
A new perspective.......1999-03-09
A wonderfully moving and beautifully compiled collection of images. Mountain ranges and river deltas dissolve into abstract designs of astounding beauty. The accompanying commentaries show a world united in space in a way that is sadly absent on Earth. The book would make anybody want to become an astronaut.
This is the perfect present for any occasion. It has touched the hearts of everyone I know who has ever seen it. Highly recommended.
best book on earth.......1999-02-21
Political boundaries are dissolved by a moon's-eye view of Earth to create bold visions of the planet through 150 color photographs culled from the American and then-Soviet archives. The pictures are allowed to speak for themselves, with only tiny captions describing locales and weather conditions.
Conceived and edited for the Association of Space Explorers, no earthling will be unmoved by the views, both photographic and verbal, regarding our home. From desert to arctic, ocean to breadbasket, this book will delight anyone who's ever looked outside an airplane window to marvel at the forms below.

Clean House, Clean Planet 97.......2007-10-03
I read it cover to cover and loved it! While the actual recipes may be what your grandmother suggested or might be available online for free, the advice in the book on how to use/make cleaners is wonderful! For instance: what kind of vinegar to use, what not to mix together, how well something really works (she's honest). And the book makes a clear and quick reference for re-making cleaners. I have my favorite 7 marked with sticky-notes. I also downloaded recipes off the net, but I prefer the book!
My only complaint: She lists a TON of recipes, but many are repetitive. She has a cute name for each kind of cleaner, when really they are all just variations on her disinfectant or vinegar mix. If you double check the ingredients and purpose of the cleaner, you do not need to make so many.
P.S. My hesitant husband recently came out and told me (unprompted) that he really likes our new cleaners. He thinks they work well and they make him feel better about breathing while cleaning (something unavoidable).
I also bought and recommend "The Virtuous Consumer" by Garrett and "Living Green" by Horn.
A Must for Beginners Learning to Clean Naturally!.......2007-10-02
The recipes are easy and work great! Since purchasing this book, I have not purchased anymore commercial-chemical cleaning products and my home smells and looks terrific. My favorites are "Alice's Wonder Spray" and "Hollywood Bowl". It's amazing what simple household ingredients can do. However, I'm still searching for a safe dishwasher and laundry detergent recipe although Mrs. Meyer's is the best off the shelf.
Best in this catagory !.......2007-10-01
I am currently researching the concept of earth friendly , earth based cleaning and home products, and this book is the best, most informative, most helpful, and best put together (editing, story, humour, recipes, resources, etc) I have come across. I believe it would be helpful to have in every home ! I have made various recipes, and they work very well. This is practical, down to earth, intelligent information.
The author takes time to let us know what is in commercial, chemical home care products, as well as the toxic effects on the environment and our own bodies. Interesting tidbits abound through the book (ie: too much laundry detergent will attract DIRT to your clothes; use less) .
I have a few books in this genre. I am glad I have them all. So far this book is the best.
earth-friendly housekeeping.......2007-09-21
Great ideas, but way too much lecturing. Give me one chapter on the perils of chemicals, and then get on with the practical solutions.
I think my house is cleaner!.......2007-07-31
I've used over 5 recipes in this book and I am impressed. I try to do little things to help our environment and this is a good one. Not to mention I'm a huge penny pincher. This has made me look around the house and come up with alternative ways to clean. The most noticeable: my black drip tray on the fridge always had a white coating from the water, I used vinegar to dissolve it and a light coat of olive oil to repel drips of water. My favorite moment was when I was down on the floor using the floor cleaner and my child crawled up behind me and it was ok.

A well researched book.......2007-04-03
Am excited to read each page of this book. It should be a slower read because there is so much valuable info involved. I took a workshop on travel writing, and it basically repeated some things in this book. However, this book has so much more to offer!
A Travel Writer Rates It "Pretty good, but...".......2006-08-19
So you're ready to dive into TRAVEL WRITING? Better see what's floating in the pool first.
Let me be the first to thank Don George and friends for having done us all the favor of creating a Lonely Planet offering for aspiring travel writers. It truly does contain a wealth of helpful hints and contact information for beginners. In fact, my copy has a rainbow mohawk sprouting from the colored Post-its I've tabbed important pages with. But here also lies its greatest flaw. A well planned book should not require the reader to create a haphazard hairpiece to augment its index. This one does.
Of George's eight chapters, fully five of them contain interviews with various authors, totaling 65 pages. I enjoyed them all, but they act as hurdles to readers using the index and should have been contained in an appendix. Further, some of the responses overlap, creating redundant reading.
Along that same line in chapter four, "The Art & Craft of Travel Writing," Don George presents a section called "Five Compelling Beginnings," showing how to hook readers with a good lead. But then a problem arises in chapter five, "Examples of Good Travel Writing," when George shows how to unhook his own readers by using all five of those same beginnings (along with their middles and ends) as examples of great completed stories. I felt as if I'd been had. After reading seven example magazine articles, where one would have sufficed, we finally got back to business. (For my previous three paragraphs I'm subtracting 1 star)
My final admonition: Practice what you preach.
Author Don George states in chapter four, "There is simply no excuse for getting your facts wrong, and you should not expect sympathy (or future work) from an editor if you do."
Uh-oh, pay attention here Don: When your sample writer Stanley Stewart penned, "a huge sky decorated with mare's tail clouds," you asked readers, "have you ever seen clouds depicted this way before?"
Oops. Yes I have Don. Mare's tail is a term used for cirrus clouds. Don't fire yourself. I forgive you. (But I'm docking you another star.)
Despite these petty annoyances and enough literary padding to qualify as a wonder bra, TRAVEL WRITING is still a great tool; just one that you will have to seperate from the clinging rakes and shovels.
My recommendation: Buy it, but get some Post-its too.
Refreshing Treatment of Familiar Subject.......2005-12-05
Cutting right to the chase, this is a delightful read. Travel books can range from deadly to enlightening...and this is on the truly enjoyable end of the scale. There is nothing more tedious than a 1000 page Fromer's guide to some place you will never visit in two lifetimes. Don George has done a nice job assembling the contributors and arranging the order of pieces...some by old hands and others by promising new comers. I particularly enjoyed the one by Joshua Clark.
Comprehensive and Realistic Guide to Travel Writing.......2005-10-30
This book is both sobering and inspiring, but most importantly, practical. Starting from an important place, "What It Takes To Be a Travel Writer," this may well convince you that travel writing isn't really a dream job for most people. Relationships with close friends can be strained, travel isn't as fun when it's a job, pay isn't usually too great, and there is such a thing as burning out from traveling too much. Some travel writers even forget to stop taking notes when they're on an actual vacation.
From there, the book delves into the practical aspects of travel writing- finding your story, getting published, using technology in your field research. This knowledge should give you confidence that you can make your dream a reality, provided you live simply, have realistic expectations, and market your work strategically.
Probably what makes the book the most useful is that it is just packed with interviews of working travel writers- about ¼ of the book- and this ensures that you will have multiple perspectives on what travel writing is about.
I was torn between buying this book and the Travel Writer's Handbook, which was also rated well last time I checked. But it seemed the past reviewers for this book were more articulate, and so I presume they were actually writers...
A travel writer rates it "great''.......2005-08-02
This is one of the best guides to any kind of writing that I've run across -- and by far the best to the difficult craft of travel writing. I've used it in my classes this summer and have been recommending it to every writer I know.
The chief author, Don George, is himself a traveler, travel writer, travel editor and teacher of travel writing, and all his experience comes into play in this compact, well-organized book.
The basics are all there, but the book goes far beyond them, adding a short history of travel literature; an outline of the ``quintessential qualities'' a travel writer needs (not least flexibility, frugality and passion); detailed advice from successful writers and major editors; even a list of travel-literature classics.
This book is destined to be a classic of its own -- one I wish I could have turned to when I was setting out in the field 25 years ago. And, like Lonely Planet's guidebooks, it's compact enough to slip into a backpack and take on the road, in case the muse hits -- as it too often does -- on a distant beach or mountaintop.
-- Catherine Watson, former travel editor of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, is the author of ``Roads Less Traveled -- Dispatches from the Ends of the Earth'' (Syren, 2005).

Customer Reviews:
Excellent book and worth every peeny.......2007-10-03
I purchased an old wooden home built about 1890 a few years ago. Other that some poorly installed blown fiberglass there wasn't any insulation in the house. I immediately started getting every book on insulating and energy efficiency that I could out of the library. This book was one of the last ones I read but it's the only one that I went back and purchased. It may not have step by step guides but what it does do is teach you about the basic mechanics of how your house works, which to me is more important than any step by step guide. It is not short on very specific advice either and also includes an excellent resource guide to purchase many of the things you will need to do the job. I have constantly referred back to this book as we slowly turn this leaky old home into a tight, energy efficient and more comfortable home.
This book is for anyone looking to improve the energy efficiency of their home, even if you are just in the design stage. Many more subjects than just insulation are covered.
Beginner to Expert, Something for all........2007-06-12
I am a firm believer in the KISS method of doing things. (Keep It Simple Stupid") Every step is covered in this book so that anyone can learn from it. The "Build Like A Pro" series of books are all laid out like this one. The "Expert Tips" are great. They show you short cuts to help you do the jobs right, but in less time. This is stuff you only learn by doing the job everyday. They are trade secrets.
Worth every penny ..........2007-02-21
This is the first book that I've ever been prompted to write an online review of. I'm having a new home built in the spring, and this book has given me the information needed to make sure my contractor is doing the job correctly. If you're inclined to do the work yourself, this is also the book you want. If you implement just one of the suggestions, you'll save many times the cost of the book.
Fantastic reference.......2007-01-19
I bought a 50 year old house 6 months ago and I've already checked this book out of the local library four times. Plenty of sections I keep coming back to. Excellent plan of attack for sealing, insulating, and then (when you need to) properly ventalating an older house. And the HVAC sections have been a great reference when were were shopping for central AC (which we just put in) and a new boiler (the next big project). I've raved about this book to so many other homeowners with high utility bills.
I had an energy audit done a litte while ago, and two guys came out to the house. One was the trainer, the other had just gone through the certification program. Between this book and the building sciences website, I felt like I knew more than the assitant. And that definitely helped me get more out of the audit, knowing what questions to ask and understanding the auditor's recommendations.
Learned Some Things.......2007-01-04
I live in a condo so not every part of this book was applicable. But I learned some very interesting things that were useful and essential when I was replacing my windows and wanted to re-insulate the window bays. For what I needed and learned, it was worth every penny.
Book Description
This book introduces a world of delicious choices to the millions of Americans who are vegans, vegetarians looking to move away from dairy, or non-vegetarians who have food sensitivities.
Customer Reviews:
Great food, time intensive to make.......2007-07-13
The recipes in this book are great, I think it gets more creative than a lot of vegan recipes I've seen and they usually turn out great if followed closely. That being said, I find that this cookbook suffers from the same issue I find with a lot of vegan recipes, which is that often the recipes call for a lot of ingredients. Often the recipes will have ingredients such as a vegetarian worchestire sauce that you need to turn around and make. In other words, I find these recipes time intensive. I think another good measure of how time intensive some of these recipes are is the number of ingredients required to make them, which is often around 15. When I have the time and feel like cooking, I bring out this book. But most days when I'm looking to make something fast I don't have the time.
The only cookbook you will ever need........2007-06-21
I have experienced several vegan cookbooks in my lifetime. This is definitely one of the better ones. I was looking for vegetable recipes, but came away with so much more.
Seriously, You will never even have to think of using animal products again with this cookbook. Ms. Robertson takes a vegan approach to classic recipes like New England chowder and Italian wedding soup.
There is also a huge variety of recipes from different countries and cultures, all meat/dairy free. I cannot wait to try the scallion pancakes with sesame seeds.
Vegan Planet is wonderful!
Excellent cookbook for Vegies.......2007-06-14
This book is the best Vegetarian/Vegan cookbook ever. With this book on hand you can throw out all others! Haven't had an "icky" meal yet from this book.
Get it and enjoy being healthy!
Makes Being Vegan Easy and a Joy.......2007-05-25
Truly a must have for anyone enjoying a vegan diet. So many exquisite recipees with unique flavors, textures and visual appeal. When I first told my husband I wanted us to go vegan, he said no way. But I bought the book anyway and have been cooking out of it for three weeks almost every night straight and my husband has been delighted with every meal and has not complained once and doesn't even know he's eating vegan! These are unusual meals that are not too hard to prepare if you have a well stocked kitchen, you need the right tools for the job and you need to be willing to shop frequently as a vegan for the fresh foods these recipees require, but the results are well worth your effforts guaranteed. As an experienced cooking enthusiast, I highly recommend!
A winner, among the best vegan titles in print.......2007-05-16
If you're only going to buy one vegan cookbook, this is the one to get. Despite being nearly the size of a Manhattan phone directory, _Vegan Planet_ never sacrifices quality for quantity. Everything I've tried here is outstanding. And, whatever you do, don't miss Robin's "Vermicelli, Chickpeas, and Vegetables with Creamy Curry Sauce" (p. 264).

Architectural Lighting.......2002-10-07
This is an excellent book. It provides a comprehensive overview while supplying specific design applications on the topics of natural and electric lighting. It illuminates many technologies and design principles with straight forward language and clear reinforcing graphics.
I teach architectural lighting at the School of Architecture at the University of Hawaii. I have reviewed many lighting books for this class and have found the Egan and Olgyay text to be very appropriate for the beginning and advanced student as well as a very useful desk reference for design proessionals.
Book Description
Manufactured homes are a great solution to the problem of affordable housingif you can get financing for them... This book reveals how to use a little-known federal program to get the best deal on the planet in financing your manufactured home if placed on a solid foundation on land (i.e. not in a "park").
Customer Reviews:
Mistitled Book.......2007-06-20
I was very disappointed in this book. The title of the book should not be so all encompassing as Manufactured Home Financing-How to get the Best Deal on the Planet. It only deals with the Rural Housing Guaranteed Program. You have to be low-income, possibly moderate-income, and it's only a rural land/home loan for 30 years. I do not want a 30-year loan, so this book was useless for me, even if I qualified. I would check out the program in your state before you invested any money in this book, because you might not qualify, and as I stated before, this is the ONLY financing option this book covers. Also, he had some very positive statements regarding manufactured housing vs. site-built in Chapter Two that just aren't true according to my research, and he has nothing to back them up but his word (things regarding appreciation and being easier to finance due to better insulation...etc.) Although, the book could be helpful to those who qualify for the Rural Housing Guaranteed Program, if you don't qualify or don't want a 30-year loan, it's of no value to you. Although it was interesting to know the Rural Housing Guaranteed Program exists, it wasn't worth my buying a whole book. It should be titled or subtitled more truthfully.
helpful and informative.......2007-01-14
This book was chock full of information on how to finance a manufactured home. We learned a lot before buying our manufactured home, however unless you are in a situation where you are in a rural area and own your own land, this book will really only serve as informational. For a land-lease situation, it wasn't as focused, mainly advising it was a bad idea -but you have to determine that yourself based on your situation and opportunities. However. the book was educational and helpful in learning the lingo and scenarios that come about dealing with banks and such.
Buy this Fantastic Book --If You Want to Buy A Home.......2006-03-06
If you think that you are going to be kept out of the housing market forever, do yourself a favor and buy this book! It is so easy to read and understand, you'll feel as though the author is sitting across from you and just explaining what's what! This information is so important! Everything he says about this government program has proved to be true. I am now shopping for my brand-new, no down payment, manufactured home!
Must have book for the manufactured home buyer.......2005-03-03
Do you want to finance a manufactured home on land you intend to purchase and save money? Get this book! I have been a real estate agent in California for a number of years and had never heard of the Rural Housing Guaranteed Loan Program for financing manufactured housing. This book has been a real eye opener to me. The writing is lively and logical. Don't delay ordering this book-you'll be glad you did.
A straightforward guide to getting the best possible deal .......2004-12-13
Loan officer Tony Evans puts his years of experience to the printed page in Manufactured Home Financing, a straightforward guide to getting the best possible deal in financing one's manufactured home. Individual chapters address the advantages of manufactured housing, how to interact with dealers and salespeople, the ins and outs of financing loans, what to do after the loan closes, important forms and documents to be aware of, and much more. An excellent resource offering insight into a little-known, government-sponsored program meant to help middle-income people achieve the dream of owning a nice home.

Product Description
Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify & Energize Your Life, Your Home & Your Planet, by Norma Lehmeier Hartie, is an indispensable reference book for anyone who cares about their health and well being and for the future of the planet. Hartie concisely covers a wide range of subjects and includes a comprehensive listing of advisory organizations, product and service resources. Part I of the book, Banish the Ugly from Your Life, is a blueprint for green, sustainable living. Discover how to replace toxic and unsustainable products from household cleaners to food (including recipes) to furniture to personal care products with safe, eco-friendly ones. Hartie is the tough but motivational Life Coach in her approach to cleaning, removing clutter and on organizing the home or office. Part II, Bring in the Beautiful to Create a Harmonious Environment and Self, includes a chapter on Earth-based spirituality and a fascinating look at the Four Elements (Earth, Fire, Air and Water) and the Medicine Wheel. The core of Hartie s philosophy blossoms in Chapter Seven, Applying Harmonious AdjustmentsTM: Using Feng Shui and Other Techniques for Powerful Results. Unlike other Feng Shui authors, Hartie has experience as a designer and her skills are apparent in this chapter and the following two. She has combined principles of Feng Shui, the Four Elements, color, energy, Vastu, and good design principles that create a unique and eclectic approach to home decorating. Finally, Hartie provides guidance on how to manifest personal or professional desires. In Part III, Putting the Pieces Together, Hartie skillfully integrates the many subjects of the book into a unified and cohesive whole. At its cover price of $19.95, Harmonious Environment is a value alone for the comprehensive green living product suppliers in the Resources section. What makes this book so truly ambitious, however, is what lies beneath the surface. In a sense, this book is only marginal

Transform Your Home into a Peaceful Sanctuary.......2007-04-10
"The energy from flowers is so bright and strong that they can be put anywhere in the home and they will enhance your life." ~ pg. 217
Norma Lehmeier Hartie is a design consultant and Harmonious Adjustment practitioner who enjoys gardening and cooking. She created the practice of Harmonious Adjustments to give her clients the chance to reconnect with nature and to manifest their personal and professional dreams. Through her book she introduces ideas for detoxing and decluttering your home environment.
If you want a happier, healthier lifestyle that is more in harmony with nature, then Norma Lehmeier Hartie's book has a world of information to make this possible. She can help you:
Remove toxic products from your home and garage
Clean and organize your home
Buy environmentally friendly cleaning products
Organize your home for more peace and harmony
Find healthy personal care products
Grow plants that help to control pollution - A list of the Fifty Best Houseplants
Find the best choices in flooring
Figure out how to recycle larger items like a refrigerator
Cook more safely and use kitchen scraps for your garden
Formulate a plan to keep your house clean
Organize every room in the house
Decorate with Confidence
Reading through the list of harmful products gives you an idea of the ingredients to avoid in cleaners and how they can affect your health. For an antibacterial spray, the author suggests water and essential oils and for cleaning silver she also suggests more natural solutions like baking soda and vinegar. Using Borax and water is less dangerous than chlorine bleach fumes and you may want to try this in your shower. You may enjoy products by Seventh Generation.
Chapter three felt a little out of my personal range of expertise, although we know that thoughts can affect our environment and life and can move our life in a positive or negative direction. This chapter deals more with spiritual practices. Chapter 6 also delves into a deeper connection with nature, personality types and elemental powers. The list of Yin and Yang is helpful to create a balance of the two in your home. An entire chapter is also dedicated to plants, gemstones and crystals.
"If you are the average American woman, you expose yourself to over two hundred synthetic chemicals that are found in the products you use as you prepare yourself for the day. These products do not simply sit on your skin; approximately sixty percent of these ingredients get absorbed into your bloodstream." ~ pg. 91
Chapter four is especially informative and essential if you are trying to be healthier and want to find organic alternatives to products filled with synthetic chemicals. Why should you avoid petroleum and talc? Why is there lead in hair dye?
The section on an Eco-Friendly Kitchen is interesting and the chapter on natural and organic foods also gives ideas on how to save time in the kitchen. A few recipes are included:
Vegetarian Pasta Primavera
Fajitas
Risotto with Scallops or Shrimp
Lemon Rice
Grilled Vegetables
An extensive list of resources and a very handy index complete this well-researched and extremely helpful book. If you enjoy Feng Shui or decorating and organizing your home, there is a lot to enjoy and you may find the information in this book can also help with fatigue, anxiety and sleeping problems.
~The Rebecca Review
Detox Your Life.......2007-04-04
No matter what your goals are, this book has the starting point for you. Learn how to make your life less toxic and get a better relationship with Mother Earth.
Declutter, paint and detoxify.......2007-04-02
Using the principles of Feng Shui, you can create a harmonious home environment with this book as a guide.
Author Lehmeier-Hartie has you choose colors, elements and design based on your birthday. If you suffer from problems feeling disorganized or headachey at home, it could be your home is not organized properly or the flow of energy is impeded.
The author extends this tranquility to finding the right job and the right mate. Whether or not it is the alignment of elements in the home, focusing on clearing clutter in your life can only have positive effects. A very pretty book.
Life-changing ideas.......2007-02-02
Worried about what your family is being exposed to? Are you hoping to increase your wealth or find love this year? Trying to decide on the best color to paint your walls? If you answered "yes!" to any of these questions, then Harmonious Environment is a must read.
The goal of this book is to create positive energy both in your home and your life and to be kinder to the earth. Hertie is a design consultant, chef, gardener, and healer. She shares her professional and personal experiences with the readers, i.e., homemade earth-friendly cleaning products, tasty recipes for carnivores and vegetarians, etc. She recommends that after reading this book, you apply the process in the following order:
1. Remove toxic products from your home and garage
2. Clean, declutter, clear and organize your home
3. Buy/use environmentally friendly products
4. Learn how to use place objects (furniture, mirrors, etc.) to manifest change in your life
The relationship between people and the Earth is an important part of Harmonious Environments. To remind ourselves of this interconnection, Hertie recommends bringing the natural world into your home. Some ways to do this include displaying rocks and minerals and using houseplants as pollution busters.
Hertie uses Harmonious Adjustments (TM) that combines "the best principles of Feng Shui, the application of the Four Elements based on your birth date, color, Vastu, energy work and good design." I've read a few Feng Shui books in the past, but the author's clear instructions and enthusiasm has given me the confidence to actually try this at home.
I liked how the author reminded me to use this book as a guideline but to also trust my intuition. Do what looks and feels right for you. I also liked how the Resource section listed all the suppliers, organizations and further readings mentioned throughout the book.
Even if you aren't interested in Feng Shui, this book has valuable information about becoming an informed consumer and living a more eco-friendly life.
Armchair Interviews says read Harmonious Environment and get ready to change your life!
Fantastic book with tons of information.......2007-01-18
I got this wonderful book as we are moving our place of business, and wanted to make smart choices. From the first page, Ms. Lehmeier-Hartie shares her expertise in an organized, thoughtful way. The day after I got the book, I negotiated a much more logical and healthier ventilation system, and the section on colors was far and away the most organized and logical explanation I have ever seen.
Some aspects of our project are beyond our control, but I became a much more active participant. We anxiously await our new space, and know that the suggestions made here will add to the beauty and functionality of our space. I wish I could have rated this 10 stars!
