5 out of 5 stars A Creationist's Best Friend.......1997-07-15

This well organized easy-to-read volume contains a massive amount of information detailing why the standard evolutionary theories simply do not fit the physical evidence in the universe in general and on earth specifically.. You do not have to be a scientist to understand the scientific principles such as biogenesis, entropy, probabilities and many more which are examined and explained in this book. Darwin believed in the years following his "Origins of Species", that evidence of his theories would be forthcoming. Almost 140 years and a quarter of billion fossils later, we still have no evidence of either macro or micro-evolution. All groups and species appear suddenly with NO transitional forms found. Taylor explains why evolution is not the answer to man's origins, and even uses quotes and information from evolutionary proponents that contradict their own conclusions! This is a masterful volume for creationists who need ready, understandable, yet scientific ammunition to prove that their ancenstors were not swinging in the trees four million years ago

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Good for middle schoolers.......2004-01-23

My sons both used this book to help them understand relativity, and they found it easy to read. Chapter 2 (dealing with clocks and simultaneity) is a little difficult, but you can understand it if you read it twice! The rest of the book is fun and informative. Maybe it will motivate my oldest son to become an astronomer and work in the neutrino observatory they hope to build in the old gold mine!

4 out of 5 stars A Mathematician's View.......2003-03-25

I have owned this book since 1984, when I purchased the original edition from TAB Books. I found the approach unique, apparently written from a mathematician's point of view. But I was led to wonder about the accuracy of some of the material in the book, particularly of thought experiments that cannot be done in real life and which therefore cannot be positively verified or denied experimentally. For example, who is going to put clocks all over the solar system and then go to every planet to check their readings? But then, other books do the same thing, for example, asking the reader to imagine riding on a train travelling at eighty percent of the speed of light.

After looking at various mentions of this title around the Web (as a phrase in Google advanced search), I have found mostly positive comments, including one from a mathematician (!) in Alabama and another from an educational association in Arizona. These experts have recommended this book as good reading for their students. One fellow dismissed the book because he turned to a page and found some mention of UFOs, but confessed that he hadn't actually read the book yet.

Gibilisco's approach differs rather dramatically from most other relativity books because it is neither highfalutin nor silly. The style is, for the most part, clear. I think the explanations of simultaneity are a little hard to understand and could be misleading to some readers. Gibilisco could do a better job of explaining the relativity of simultaneity among objects in relative motion. It would be nice to have more discussion about paradoxes associated with Special Relativity. An updated edition could clarify some of these issues and also address the question, "Can anything travel faster than the speed of light in free space?"

1 out of 5 stars Confusion unlimited.......2003-01-05

This book is sadly misguided. The author not only does not understand relativity, but actually promulgates common misunderstandings as fact. For example: he says that even mathematically defined points, such as the point of intersection of moving straight lines, cannot exceed the speed of light. They can. Even worse, he says that there is no such thing as simultaneity in a distributed frame of reference. There is. He says the lack of simultaneity is due to the propagation delay of light. It is not. All these things are covered in any introductory text on Special Relativity. Reading this book will only mislead you. It was clearly never reviewed by a relativity physicist. It's sad that it was ever published.

4 out of 5 stars CAN REALLY RELATE.......2004-08-25

This book made me feel like what I was going through was not psycho. It made me realize that others have been through what I am going through. I totally related to what it said. I have found some of the exercises usefull as well. However, the only true thing that will help you "get over him" is time. This book does provide a distraction and some good advice. I recommend it for the heartbroken.

4 out of 5 stars A good book for a heartbreak.......2002-11-20

A nice book with some good advices on what to do when you're in pain because the man you loved left you. It explains what to do in many situations, which is very good because the guys can leave in different ways, more or less painful and cruel.

2 out of 5 stars not geared toward a very serious breakup.........2002-07-11

ok. so i got dumped. but do i need cosmo to tell me how to mend my broken heart? well any advise was welcome when i purchased this, but it turned out to be wasted money - as i should have and would have realized if i were in a more stable state of mind.

as a previous reviewer noted, it is fluff. this is primarily directed at a girl who wasn't with someone very long, probably didn't have a long-term commitment and whose main objective is to stop sleeping with her ex.

i admit there were a *few* bits of wisdom, but most of 'em are pretty logical and obvious. the rest of it i skimmed....

overall, it's not worth your time.

5 out of 5 stars Great book... needed it 6 months ago...but..........2001-09-02

This is a great book if you're fresh out of a relationship. It tells you all the "what not to do's" so if you read it, say 2, 3, 4 months afterward, then you've probably already done the "what not to do's." What it doesn't tell you is what to do in this case...
It's still a great book. I highly recommend it for the freshly heartbroken.

4 out of 5 stars Read the second after its over!.......2001-08-14

This book offers good advice for women in their 20's who have broken up with someone or been dumped. (not appropriate for an older audience, though). Very helpful advice written in plain, conversational English which can be read FAST. Best to read this a soon as you break up with someone, as it tells you why you should not do all the stupid things that us girls do (like call him, stop by, beg for forgiveness) and points out that MEN WANT WHAT THEY CAN'T HAVE. It offers advice on what to do if the ex lives with you or works with you, has a quiz to figure out if you want him back at all, and gives tips on how to handle dating others. All solid advice you may know already, but it is a huge help to read it over and over. This book does help you to speed the healing process by facing reality...which none of us girls are good at doing after losing the man we loved. I sure hope you don't need this book...ever...but if you are suffering please go ahead and read it.

5 out of 5 stars This book is in a class of its own--a life-altering read!.......2003-02-24

The "Cosmo" is a book I first encountered in a public library in Wichita, Kansas in 1974, and it is an event that I shall never forget. It is not an exaggeration for me to say that the concepts in this book have truly changed my life, although at times it has not made life especially easy. Max Heindel presents a "grown-up" version of Christianity that takes much thought to grasp, but is well worth the effort.

In the centuries to come, Max Heindel will be recognized as one of the giants of the 20th century, along with Einstein and Martin Luther King, and it will be sad commentary upon the benighted nature of the last century that so few have thus far reaped the rewards of his written legacy.

If religion were equated with mathematics, church Christianity may be likened to basic arithmetic, and Rosicrucian Christianity may be likened to advanced calculus.

Reading the "Cosmo" for the first time is one of the most intellectually exhilarating experiences life has to offer.

4 out of 5 stars Not An Easy Text...But Intriguing.......2002-05-02

This book was written by Max Heindel, the founder of the Rosicrucian Fellowship of Oceanside, California--a group which is still quite active today. This is Heindel's own unique Rosicrucian philosophy; it is not the Rosicrucianism of the AMORC or any other group currently labeling themselves Rosicrucians. One must eventually put aside the pointless quibbling as to which group harbors the "real" Rosicrucianism (because every group will give a differing viewpoint) and ask a much more relevant question: does the philosophy WORK? Heindel's philosophy has worked for a great many people, and this book is considered by many to be his magnum opus. Heindel's brand of Christian Rosicrucianism doesn't work well with traditional mainstream Christianity. He introduces into basic Christian theology various occult concepts, not to mention a strong dose of astrology. These viewpoints will be interesting to students of esoteric Christianity, but will doubtless seem like heresy to the average Fundamentalist Christian. This book outlines Heindel's worldview, and it's very complex. This is not easy reading. People accustomed to fluffy pop occultism and "how-to" texts that can be devoured in a single sitting will be disappointed. This is rather intense, intellectually engaging material. Some readers will find many of Heindel's assertions hard to believe. Others will delight in his complex views of humanity and the various worlds through which mankind travels. This book contains material on the visible and invisible worlds, human evolution, rebirth, nutrition, the mission of Christ, occult analysis of Biblical texts, the fall of man, the law of consequence, animal spirits, esoteric training, and a great many other topics. There is SO much to study here, in fact, that it seems almost daunting. Still, many people do study this book, and many have reported benefiting from it. The book isn't for everyone. It's not a quick, easy self-help book. The dryness of the text can be a bit of a problem for some. Remember, though, that the first edition was printed in 1909 and has changed little (if any) since then. Some of the science will seem outmoded and some of the social commentary (for instance, on matters of race) may seem hopelessly dated, as well. Still, it's an interesting book, on the whole, and if you can stick with it, you might end up learning something.

5 out of 5 stars The Cosmo: A way to understand our Universe.......2000-10-24

This book has an answer to those souls who haven't find it whether in physical sciences or in traditional religions. Max Heindel shows to the world, as he received them from The Rosicrucian Order's Elder Brothers, the teachings of a higher philosophy; teachings that speak to us of our relationship with God, our human fellows, and the meaning of our existence in Earth. I personally found this book a precious help to understand how my destiny is a result of my own acts, since the "Law of cause and effect" taught by The Rosicrucian Fellowship, and how we can change our destiny, changing our lives and the way we approach it. This book can change your life. My advice: take a look... you may find it fascinating too.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous read. Very funny.......2005-01-31

Contrary to the last post I thought every page contained quite humorous anecdotes. The book had me laughing every page all the way to the end. Sure, he is sarcastic and may have expected too much, but he gives a lot of good advice. A must read for anyone that is unsure of the online dating world and could use some tips on what to do.

        1 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Time!!!!.......2004-10-31

This guy is so judgmental and idiotic that literally every page had me steaming. Cosmo Fox has an aversion to anyone qualifying as "overweight" and, as many women and men have found using the internet as a dating source, it enables one to get to know another person before getting to know what they look like. I understand that it's frustrating when someone is deceptive about their appearance before meeting, but the 'writer' (I use the term loosely--he mentions having had the book proofread but if I were to have a go at the final copy every page would be covered in red editing marks!! Horrible!!) spends approximately half the book insulting his dates (who would presumably read the book) for being fat--and even one for being a burn victim! He considers himself very witty and interesting, and he just isn't. It's a real shame that one of the few anecdotal books about online dating out there has to be written by this jerk. Please, please, someone with some real talent and sensitivity, give us something of quality to read!

5 out of 5 stars Great birthday gift!.......2003-01-16

My dear sister Heather gave me this book for my birthday. I am an avid internet dater, so this was the perfect gift for me. I guess the best word to summarize Cosmo Fox's book would be: CAPTIVATING. I couldn't put the book down! The next day, I dropped the book off to one of my friends that has been having hazardous dates. I would completely recommend purchasing this book and give it a FULL FIVE STARS! Know someone who chats and dates online? "Online Dating: The Early Years" should be their next birthday gift! Thanks, Cosmo.

5 out of 5 stars Very funny book.......2003-01-07
