Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

Our knowledge of Mars has grown enormously over the last decade as a result of the Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Odyssey, Mars Express, and the two Mars Rover missions. This book is a systematic summary of what we have learnt about the geological evolution of Mars as a result of these missions. It describes the diverse Martian surface features and summarizes current ideas as to how, when, and under what conditions they formed, and explores how Earth and Mars differ and why the two planets evolved so differently. The author also discusses possible implications of the geologic history for the origin and survival of indigenous Martian life. Up-to-date and highly illustrated, this book will be a principal reference for researchers and graduate students in planetary science. The comprehensive list of references will also assist readers in pursuing further information on the subject. Colour images can be found at www.cambridge.org/9780521872010.

20 years after publication, "The Surface of Mars" is still the absolute best starting point for anyone interested in learning the basics about what Mars is like. Chapters describe the channels, craters, volcanoes, history, moons, etc. as best as these topics were understood at the end of the 1970s Viking missions. Even after Pathfinder and with Mars Global Surveyor, this is still the book I suggest people start with to learn about the Red Planet.

    Book Description

The Wheels of Apollo and the Quest for Mars fills a need for a complete history of the Lunar Roving Vehicle used on Apollo 15, 16 and 17, drawing on many photographs never before published. It will also tell the story of the successful robotic rovers used on Mars, and will conclude with a description of the new designs of rovers planned for The New Vision for Exploration now underway at NASA.

In the Introduction, Anthony Young discusses the influence of art and images in both books and magazines that sparked interest in manned space travel. The Cold War launched the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union and the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions are provided in overview as a prelude to following chapters.

Chapter One explains the early concepts of a lunar rover even before the start of Apollo. Following Apollo 11, requests to Industry for proposals are made, and Boeing wins the contract to design and build the Lunar Roving Vehicle. The book covers the complete program from Boeing’s perspective as well as the Marshall Space Flight Center.

Chapter Two details the testing undertaken by the astronauts with the 1-G trainer in desert environments as well as simulators, as well as at Kennedy Space Center in full EVA suits. Chapters Three, Four and Five cover Apollo missions 15, 16 and 17 respectively, when the lunar geology field trips were conducted, and the successful use of the LRV on the moon. Chapter Six describes the engineering of the Martian robotic rovers Sojourner, Spirit and Opportunity. Chapter Seven covers the future use or manned and unmanned rovers in NASA’s New Vision for Exploration.

    Book Description

In what can only be described as one of the most important archaeological and sociological discoveries in human history, The Cydonia Codex offers overwhelming evidence of aesthetic and symbolic design on the surface of the planet Mars. The authors' research encompasses over ten years of study and analysis of NASA photographs of the "Face on Mars" and its surrounding complex. Beginning with the famous 1976 photograph of a mile-long formation found on the surface of Mars that strongly resembles a human face, Haas and Saunders offer side-by-side comparisons of the art and sculpture of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica with a set of corresponding geoglyphic structures found in the Cydonia region of Mars. The implication is staggering--Earth's history and humankind's origins could be very different than commonly believed. Includes black and white photos throughout, as well as illustrations.

5 out of 5 stars Earth - Mars Connection Found in Mexico.......2007-02-11

I really liked this book. It is the fist book I ever read about NASA photographing the Face on Mars and all the other faces. Everyone should read it. The authors make a strong case that who ever built these structures on Mars had somekind of connection with the ancient Olmec and Maya cultures here on Earth.

The pictures of the two-faced masks on Mars really do look like they are copies of masks found in Mexico. This book is so cool it should be offered in most school libraries and it should be talked about on CNN. People should read this book because the images are just amazing. Because of this book, I am now reading as much as I can about the Maya and Olmec.

If everything in this book is right, maybe we all came from Mars.

1 out of 5 stars Too far-fetched for my liking.......2006-04-18

I really want to believe. I've followed the Face on Mars saga right from the start in the 1980s up till now, and own various editions of Hoagland's Monuments of Mars book. I've read Mac Tonnie's "After the Martian Apocalypse'' and Carlotto's "The Cydonia Controversy'', the latter probably presenting the best summary currently available. All along, I had high hopes that there IS something there, that all these experts can't have got it wrong. But I have to say that The Cydonia Codex is a huge disappointment. Why? In a nutshell - using a dubious reflective technique, the authors see a rabbit, dolphin, turtle, jaguar, bat, bottle-nosed whale etc etc etched on the Martian surface. To me, this is stretching the bounds of credibility to breaking point - I mean come on guys, gimme a break! Whales? A swimming turtle? A fish? A face and a couple of pyramids I might swallow but come on! I ploughed through almost 160 pages of this before finally throwing in the towel. Still, I'll give it 2 stars for effort - clearly, the writers take their theory seriously and who knows, there's probably a fringe community out there that might buy it as well.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting Reading.......2006-03-09

I was at first hesitant to purchase this book based on all the other information available out there. I read Hoagland's version and wasn't convinced, though I was intrigued. This book "slam dunked" me into believing that there is more to Mars than meets the eye. The farther I read into this book and researched it, the more logical it seems that there are structures on Mars that directly relate to Earth mythologies that need to be investigated.

    1 out of 5 stars Cydonia a review.......2006-02-01

I like a good book that tries to open up a new area of knowledge. In this, I must say, the book fails. I didn't like it at all. The book is well written but the lack of research, the omissions and outright errors are overwhelming. The crushing lack of even basic archaeological and geological knowledge demonstrated in the book is sad. The historical content is inaccurate and is often given out of context. New ideas need to be based on what is already known. The book casually discards 150 years of scientific knowledge with a casual wave of its metaphysical hand. Perhaps worst of all are the various theories put forth in the book that contradict one another. One has to ask if anyone took the time to edit the material? There is a heavy use of material from discredited fringe authors that have long since been shown to be incorrect yet this discarded theory is presented in the book as fresh data.

Unless you like your history, science and logical thinking done up in a nonsensical muddle, avoid this book.

3 out of 5 stars Not at all what I'd hoped for.......2005-12-23

I've read several of the books about the "Face" on Mars and other possibly artificial Martian features and thought this would make an interesting addition.
Mr. Haas discusses several Martian and Terrestrial features, and mentions the writings of other Martian Object authors such as Carlotto and Hoagland. It seems to me that, in my reading so far, that he is of the opinion that the people who did the ancient Mayan and Olmec carvings down in Central & South America also operated on Mars. Where Richard Hoagland sees pyramids or other ruins George Haas seems to keep seeing C & SA petroglyphs on a giant scale- after a few shots of that I began to loose interest in his book. I don't know what's up with Mars, I don't like NASA's take (sometimes I don't like Hoagland's either)on it but this guy is way too strong on petroglyphs I think. I may not get around to finishing the book.

Once past the excessive ranting about Carl Sagan in The Monkey and the Tetrahedron, the reader will find a crackerjack compendium of proven, but generally ignored, scientific findings and some compelling theories that tie them all together. While David Jinks's master's degree is in business rather than physics, he compiles information and documents his contentions with the fury of an accountant searching for misappropriated funds. Be glad he's not an auditor for the IRS.

Fans of conspiracy theory will revel in the author's brutally blunt questions and hyper-logical deductions concerning transparent distortions supposedly perpetrated by the federal government and allied organizations: Did the 1993 Mars Observer mission really get lost? Does cold fusion overthrow the First Law of Thermodynamics (and corporate interests) by creating more energy than it consumes? Could crop circles be related to the Earth's weakening magnetic field instead of pranksters? Why do highly respected American astronauts believe in UFOs? Read The Monkey and The Tetrahedron and consider the ramifications of these and other important questions. --P. Randall Cohan

    Book Description

The Monkey and The Tetrahedron is a comprehensive synthesis of the evidence supporting:

    * the existence of extraterrestrial artifacts
    * the reality of the "excess energy" phenomenon
    * the presence of unusual electromagnetic effects in grain affected by
    "crop circle" formations
    * the existence of Unidentified Flying Objects as a non-trivial
    phenomenon
    * a connection between the human race and an ancient, now "lost" body
    of knowledge

The Monkey and the Tetrahedron suggests a common thread that may tie these seemingly disparate subjects together, grounding them firmly in the testable scientific realm. With nearly 700 citations and dozens of links to the most reliable, up-to-date internet sources, The Monkey and the Tetrahedron is a virtual encyclopedia of controversial science. Written in non-technical language, The Monkey and the Tetrahedron is 476 pages long and contains 77 illustrations, including official NASA images suggesting that all is not as it seems in the solar system!

WOW! With over 30 years of investigation and research, I have never read such a compendium of intelligence about where we are, where we "might" have come from. What a compelling condemnation of our perception(s) of "mainstream" science and why we're so mislead about our humanity, our origins and where we're heading as a species. Superbly and successfully ties in the Face on Mars, Sacred Geometry, UFO's, Hyperdimensional Physics, Cold-Fusion (unlimited free energy) and the deliberate suppression by our media and government(s), globally to cover up the truth.
All conclusions are supported by facts. This is not an opinionated blurb either. The author backs up his subject(s) with established facts and writes in laymans' terms. For a refreshing look at why corporations and tenured scientist(s) deliberately debunk any anamolus subject that either doesn't fit their narrow view-field, or would lead them to lose their "control" of what we THINK we know, then this is the book for you. Although I might add here that this book would be standard reading in ALL our high schools across this nation if it were up to me. Absolute MUST read!!!! Read and learn for yourselves - don't rely on TV and newspapers to mold your perceptions - there's more out there that's never reported through "normal" media outlets. Try this book for a GREAT adventure and an eye opening experience. I guarantee you won't "view" your world with the same eyes ever again!

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......2003-09-26

This book is a compilation of alternative histories and information on everything from cold fusion/nhe to evidence of prior life on mars. The author ties together the works of just about every alternative researcher on the planet. The underlying theme is one of hyperdimensional theory. Well documented and chock full of so much information it'll make your head spin. My only gripe is that Jinks beat me to the punch as I've wanted to put together a book of this nature. HeHe. I put off buying this book for 2 years and now wish I had gotten it sooner. I'd give it more stars but alas 5 must suffice.

I have reviewed a dozen or more books of science in this forum, many of which I considered to be outstanding in clarity, scope, and profundity, but I have remained stingy on granting the highest of exaltations on these works until now. "The Monkey and the Tetrahedron" by David M. Jinks, warrants my very first 5 star rating.
In this momentous work Jinks delves into topics ranging from the enigmatic monuments of Mars, the UFO phenomenon, cold fusion, archeology, biology, and even a science I had never heard called "Archeocrptology", and weaves these topics together into a tightly knit scheme. Attempting to synethesize what Jinks has achieved in this work would only be an injustice. There are enough unturned stones here that it might entice the reader into pursuing his/her own investigations and scientific experimentations. It did me! What more can we ask of a book than to have it compel us to pick up the torch of scientific inquiry.

I must say that I passed over this book many times. I finally broke down and bought it and I have been amazed ever since. This book brought together so many things I had been researching and finally gave them some sense. I recommend this book for all of you who think there is more to life than the facts and the history we have been given. You may not buy all the things the author says, but file them away for safekeeping, you may yet believe.

THIS BOOK TELLS OF THE VERY REAL THREAT TO THE HUMAN RACE FROM MONKEYS. IT PROVES THAT THERE WAS ONCE AN ADVANCED RACE OF MONKEYS ON MARS AND THAT THE FAMOUS FACE IS IN FACT THE FACE OF A MONKEY. THE MONKEYS ARE NOW ON THIS PLANET AND ARE ATTEMPTING TO TAKE OVER. THE BOOK STATES THAT THERE IS A CONSPIRACY BETWEEN WORLD GOVERMENTS AND THE MONKEYS. THE ONLY HOPE THE HUMAN RACE HAS IS TO READ THIS BOOK AND PASS IT ON TO ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS. THE MONKEYS MUST BE STOPPED BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE, THE MONKEYS ARE COMING.

    Book Description

For many years Richard Hoagland alone hypothesized that sentient beings spent time on Mars millions of years ago assembling behemoth structures whose ruins are still seen today. Here Hoagland redefines the solar system as a different place than NASA has presented. The book includes a new preface covering the Mars Global Surveyor photos and reactions of NASA.

Read this book with a very healthy level of skeptisim!

The claims put forth in this work has been debunked by many high level science experts, such as Phil Plait ( Author of Bad Astronomy ) and Seth Shostak ( SETI Institute) - among others.

But don't take my word for it. Go do the research yourself!

In the words of the late/great Carl Sagan, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof!"

5 out of 5 stars Far out? Yes. But..........2007-09-24

Funny thing, the internet. You start out going one place and end up somewhere else altogether. While looking for information about Jack Parsons (founder of Jet Propulsion Laboratories) I eventually, somehow, ended up here at The Monuments of Mars. That's okay. I happen to have a copy of Monuments (4th edition) so I decided I might as well post a review. Then I read about half of the 70-something reviews already posted and wondered what else was there to be said?

Clearly, Hoagland's massive work engenders its own weight in controversy. But, having followed Hoagland's work for many years, I'm inclined to think perhaps that is one of Hoagland's greatest contributions and perhaps one of the most valuable aspects of what he does.

Hoagland's motto (a rephrased version of the Star Trek motto) is "To boldly go where someone has gone before." Obviously that's a reference to his whole underlying assumption that some intelligent species had been on Mars and on our Moon centuries ago. But I'm inclined to think perhaps the original Star Trek motto more accurately fits Hoagland himself: "To boldly go where no one has gone before." (Yes, I know, I know. That's not the ORIGINAL original. It's the "other" original.) Hoagland has consistently proposed ideas that were/are pretty far out. But he also provides the data to back up his ideas. True, not everyone supports his claims or the data he uses to back up those claims but, man, he sure does make you think. And not just think in conventional terms but think outside the box. After all, isn't that where some of the greatest discoveries are made? Einstein anyone? The Wright Brothers? Tesla? Who am I missing?

The Face on Mars. The pyramids on Mars. The strange objects on the Moon. Are these all really artificial constructions created by alien beings from another planet? Another dimension? I don't know. But having read Monuments and after listening to Hoagland's arguments I can say I'm open to the possibility that he may be right.

And let us not overlook the fact that Hoagland isn't just some "nobody" who somehow sneaked his way into the limelight. Back in the 1960s he was the NBC consultant for the moon landing of Surveyor 1. A couple years later he became the director of a major science museum and planetarium in Connecticut. Then he became a science advisor to Walter Cronkite during the Apollo missions. I could go on but I think the point is made.

I would recommend The Monuments of Mars if for no other reason than to give your critical thinking skills a workout and decide for yourself whether or not someone has gone there before. Are Hoagland's ideas far out? Yes. But... isn't that where we want to go?

    5 out of 5 stars absolutly amazing.......2007-09-22

I only recently learned of Richard C. Hoagland when I stumbled upon his website. I was intrigued by some of the things written on there so I decided to buy this book.

At first I was cautious at believing what he had to say, but everything he says is very-well documented and not only that, it is backed by many different scientists from many different fields.
While he is very eager to claim life on Mars, he does indeed back all of his claims with evidence(all backed by legitmate scientists) and outright says when he is speculating.

Those that say this is psuedo-science, obviously do not beleive in any of this to begin with, meaning they could not possibly give a fair review. In other words, they had probably made up their mind before reading the book. Also, the argument that you can not go by fuzzy pictures, does not work, as updated pictures from the more recent Mars mission continues to prove him right.

One thing I did not like was the fact that there were not more recent pictures and more pictures overall.

Overall this was a very good book and if you are open minded you should find this book very persuading, otherwise don't bother reading it.

    1 out of 5 stars Tabloid Science.......2007-04-13

This book was a disappointment. I have never dreaded reading such a large book as this one. Not that I don't agree that there appears to be Martian Architecture on Mars or I wouldn't have spent so much $ or time on this rediculous book. Hoagland writes a 700 page tabloid book on Mars. Incredible! Too much "old" Hoagland history and too many disjointed pictures/images. He spends way too much time on the rediculous "face". One photo or the first Viking photo makes it look like a face and THAT IS IT. Period!!!! He must have at least fifty pages just on the face alone! Reading this book was more like experiencing a freak show at the county fair. I recommend that you not waste your time on this book. The guy is definitely correct that there appears to be "life on Mars" but take my word for it, you'd be better off buying a science fiction book.....it would be more convincing. I haven't read it but a better book would be The Martian Enigmas: A Closer Look: The Face, Pyramids, and Other Unusual Objects on Mars Second Edition by Mark J. Carlotto and it is not so long......Scotty beam this guy up to the Enterprise and KEEP HIM THERE! I want my money back!

5 out of 5 stars Good Explanation of One Point of View.......2007-02-28

Mr. Hoadland certainly has better eyes than I do. I look at the pictures he has included in this book and read his descriptions and just don't see what he sees. Yes, I see some vague resemblence to a face in the original pictures taken by the Viking orbiter in 1976. Then I look at the newer pictures taken at higher resolution and different lighting and if I wasn't deliberately looking for a face I'd just see some mountains.

Now once you have a fact, then it isn't a big step to go find other thing with which we humans can identify, e.g. a city, a fortress, a pyramid. It's not unlike laying on the grass in the summer time with a pretty girl and seeing figures in the clouds. (I don't know why the girl has to be pretty, but it fits with the story.)

He also discusses the meteorites from Mars, but in much less detail. Presumably this was just coming to light as this book was going to press and will be treated more completely in the next edition.

Mr. Hoagland is clearly out on the edge of what scientists are believing about Mars. There is some evidence that yes there is or may have been some kind of life on mars. But there is also some evidence that contradicts the other findings. The majority of scientists do not believe that conclusive evidence has been found.

As an elementary school media specialist, and a Summer School Space Camp Captain, I was introduced to this wonderful paperback in the Voyager Space Camp Kit. As an introduction to colonization of Mars, the book gave my summer "astronauts" inspiration to build their own colonies. An excellent reference about "terraforming" the Martian planet, this book provides information in a simple format that students can readily understand, and begin their dreams of space travel. I plan on adding it to my school library in the Fall.

    Book Description

On the surface of Mars lies a formation that looks remarkably like a humanoid face. Forever staring up into the vastness of space it has attracted our attention. Some think that that is why it is there, beckoning us to come and explore. Others believe that it is simply an odd looking geological landform - a formation carved over the ages by the random forces of nature. It is our imagination and our desire to find other forms of life in the universe that makes us see it as an intelligently crafted object.

Opinions about the possibility of life on Mars have changed over the years from Percival Lowell's canals, to the dead planet image by the early Mariner missions to Mars, to the enormous volcanoes, great canyon systems, and channels carved by water seen by Mariner 9 and Viking. In the first edition of The Martian Enigmas, Dr. Mark J. Carlotto presented a detailed analysis of the controversial Viking photographs. The revised edition greatly expands on his early work and constains new research results that further supports the claim that these objects may be precisely what many scientists have sought for decades: the first hard evidence that we are not alone.

4 out of 5 stars Who knows? NASA!.......2002-01-02

It really looks like a civilization existed on Mars, but the only way to know for sure is to go there. Is NASA hidding the truth? If you found out NASA hid the truth all this time would you be supprised.

5 out of 5 stars Strong scientific case for artificiality.......2000-07-21

Carlotto brings state of the art image analysis techniques to bear on the enigmatic objects of Mars' Cydonia region. He shows that there is a high degree of probability for artificiality, something that NASA and Michael Malin vigorously deny - to this day. This book is a must-read for any serious student of the artificiality hypothesis.

5 out of 5 stars The standard reference for extraterrestrial archaeologists.......2000-06-25

Mark Carlotto's book is a must-buy. Every page is a discovery in itself; the author makes his case, and makes it extremely well: Mars is probably home to non-natural features well within our technological ability to investigate (preferably through manned exploration).

"The Martian Enigmas" is a satisfying piece of popular science that effectively sounds the death toll for "skeptics" who insist it's all our imaginations.

5 out of 5 stars Superb title for Mars Images and Advanced Image Processing.......1999-01-14

This book explores the fundamentals of image processing as applied to satellite photography. The author also details the processing of the images of constructed features on the surface of the planet Mars. Mr. Carlotto was able to demonstrate in very easy terms the methods used to illuminate these breathtaking images. I eagerly await any book from this author on the latest set of images taken in 1998.

5 out of 5 stars McDaniel takes NASA's uneducated "debunking" to task.......2000-06-27

Stanley McDaniel accomplishes a lot in "The McDaniel Report," effectively dissecting NASA's tired party line that the alleged "Face on Mars" is a "trick of light and shadow." If this was all he accomplished, this would still be an important book. But he goes much deeper, challenging mainstream science on epistemilogical grounds and taking officialdom to task for knowingly (?) circulating bogus claims about the Face and other anomalous formations on Mars. "The McDaniel Report" reveals a NASA saturated in its own self-importance, and deals a weighty blow to prevailing SETI dogma.

Carl Sagan has said that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." Well, here it is. If extraterrestrial ruins on Mars bother you, by all means keep away from "The McDaniel Report."

5 out of 5 stars great reading and of high scientific value.......1999-10-11

This book is a must-read for anyone interested in the (serious) research of the anomalies on Mars, criticaster or "believer". Concise, detailed, well-documented and with lots of references. A must-have and certainly of high scientific value. Professor McDaniel has done an outstanding job with this report.
